   We started with two nice glasses of wine (which were excellent)…from there it was down hill. We ordered a shrimp cocktail and stuffed banana peppers. The shrimp were at best large (not jumbo or colossal) and the veal stuffed peppers look like they had been frozen and thawed. For dinner we had stuff grouper and lamb chops. Lamb chops were wet with oil and there was a layer of oil in the bottom of the plate. May have been the worst lamb chops I’ve ever eaten. The grouper was tasty, but also oversaturated. We’ve been dining at Johnny’s for 30+ years and this by far was the worst experience . And I’m not sure we will go back.

   We haven’t been to Johnny’s since before the pandemic so we were so excited to go back finally! The food was amazing and service impeccable. Our only issue was a couple of menu item prices. The online price vs menu prices are quite different so please be aware. Online Potato Crusted Halibut says $40.95, at the restaurant the actual menu price was $52.95. It’s great, but don’t leave your wallet at home 😋

   I’m afraid Johnny’s has lost its panache. I was hoping for a special occasion restaurant after a Sunday afternoon event. Our dinner was mediocre at best. For a downtown restaurant, I was expecting a valet, a Maitre d’, a bartender and a ladies room with toilet paper and a working soap dispenser. Our server seemed extremely distracted and spilled sauce all over the table. I can only imagine what the back of house looked like!?!.

   The server was excellent. All courses were timely , but not rushed. The grouper was one of the best we have ever eaten. The special pounded veal dish was also fantastic. Drinks were also excellent.

   Took wife for Birthday. Stated that on reservation. No special dessert for her. Minimal dessert choices. Not even tiramisu. No valet parking. So so menu choices.

    Made reservations, did not have to wait. Service was good and so was the food. Had never been before, but seemed like a good place to try for the price point. Would return. Wife had the short rib and said it was the best she has ever had. I had the veal parm, which I was not a fan of, but it was the first time trying veal, so I’m guessing I just don’t like veal.

    Really surprised how the food did not match our expectations. First we were given 2 different menus…same items/different prices. The escargot was sooooo salty. Never heard of adding salt to escargot. The short rib dinner was meh…didn’t bother taking anything home. Finally, for an Italian restaurant, it was the saddest Tiramisu ever. The lady fingers were crunchy and the whole dessert was a hot mess. Our waiter was friendly and gracious which we appreciated. The guests were really friendly and a well dressed group. The food was the let down. Probably won’t return.

    This was my second time to visit Johnny's with the first visit being in 2009. I fell in love with this place then, but the love affair is now over. The service was polite but uninvolved and not attentive enough. The food, my pasta dish, looked like it had sat under a heat lamp for some time, and was staggeringly hot to the point where it burnt my mouth. Had the carrot cake for dessert, a little dry and boring. The package as a whole, does not justify the price.

    Had heard about Johnny's since we moved here and decided to try it for our anniversary dinner. The atmosphere was old and dirty looking. Our waiter made us feel like we were intruding. He was very standoffish. Food was ok at best. Overall, maybe back in the day it was nice, but it is not on par with service and taste as other older restaurants in the area have kept up with.

    The Italian feast was very delicious. We had reservations on a Saturday night at 6:30 PM and there were only about four or five other tables taken. This was very surprising as it was a very busy day downtown with the Cavs basketball playoff game. The food was delicious and the service was fine.

    First time at the one downtown we usually hit the one on Fulton. I do like the Fulton one a little bit more it’s more intimate in my opinion. The food was still excellent.

    Made a reservation on Open Table for late night dining at available slot of 10pm. Arrived at restaurant and told they closed kitchen early at 9pm Reservation had been booked at 9:20pm so why was the restaurant accepting? Now w limited options , and private car service had departed we walked over to Ritz-Carlton.

    Old school Cleveland fine dining at its best! They don’t make them like this place anymore. Exquisite cuisine, swanky surroundings, the piano man and a Manhattan that sets you right. A true Cleveland gem.

    We went to Johnnys downtown for the first time last night and it was a wonderful experience. Kenny was our server and he was so kind and knowledgeable. Food was hot and fresh and service was quick and so special!

    The food was fantastic. The restaurant is gorgeous. The wait staff was so accommodating. It was St. Patrick’s Day- not the best for a quiet birthday celebration and yet it all worked at Johnnies. Love the place.

    It was beautiful but our service was quite slow. We sat for almost 15 minutes before seeing our server and placing a drink order. The food was good, but I didn’t think it was far superior to restaurants that were far less expensive. I’m fine with charging high prices for great food, beautiful ambiance and excellent service, but you gotta pull through on all three of those to make it worth it.

    My wife got the puff pastry filet with lobster. Her lobster was very dry and did not have any flavor. Also her steak was over cooked. She requested medium rare and received it medium well.

    We love the atmosphere and truly appreciate the concerns about my allergies.Even the waiter didn’t know about the red chili flakes in the marinara .Having a choice of three long bone veal chops is really special.I’ll ask for the salad dressing on the side next time. And the piano player is terrific! We love the bar side for drinks. But somebody should be checking the men’s room every hour to make sure there’s soap down there. We truly appreciate the police presence there also. It helps

    Maybe understaffed ??? Poor dear server was running like mad. Drinks made incorrect and took about 25 minutes to get fixed. No water till second drink showed up. Appetizer of shrimp cocktail was fresh but terrible preparation. Two of three dishes were over cooked. Sides were cold’ish and the beans under done and boring. On a much better note….the drinks tasted wonderful (once they arrived correctly)the room beautiful, staff very friendly, car valet lovely. Just happy you are all still here and I think it was maybe a tough night for everyone. Always coming back!

    Dinner at Johnny's Downtown is always high quality fine dining at a reasonable price, with the best entertainment in town. If you're in Cleveland, you have to go to Johnny's Downtown.

    All I want to add about this review and which makes it very special is the piano player with his twist on the pop songs. I didn’t know that there will be a piano player and it made the whole occasion and experience better than expected.
