I made the reservation a week in advance and have requested a table by the window in a quieter spot. When we arrive at the restaurant I was told "we can't guaranty window tables.... if you want you can wait 30 minutes..."
I dine frequently at this restaurant. This is the first time ever that I was treated like that and spoken to in such a manner.
I will take my business in the future some elsewhere.
Too bad

Overall the food at John Howie is very good (some dishes unnecessarily complex, in my opinion), but the steaks are outstanding. The primary reason for the lower review, though, was incredibly slow service. They were very nice and the young man who refilled our water glasses was incredibly on-the-ball, but otherwise the service was quite slow.

This is a great restaurant. We had the London broil and it was good. The service is outstanding and they answered all questions and were accommodating to all our needs. First class service actually. The music was loud (not sure why) and we were in an area where the staff was running back and forth so it wasn't exactly relaxing. But we would go back again.

This place is amazing! Not only is the food absolutely on point the customer service is hands down the best I have ever seen! Took my fiancé for a birthday dinner and he said it was the best dinner he has ever had!

We were celebrating a birthday and wanted to try John Howie Steakhouse in Bellevue!!
The Caesar Salad was excellent. The Cherries Jubilee was divine and fantastic way better than Trader Vic's at the Westin Hotel. Which I though was fabulous over 20 years ago, but at John Howie's Steakhouse it was superb and delicious!!! For our entree we ordered the Long-Bone Rib-Eye did not think that was very good for the value, we should of ordered the Snake River Steaks which are always the best. The wine was fabulous! The service was outstanding and excellent!!!

About half of my steak was fat.

The tiny table for two was way to small for two bottles of wine and an appetizer.

Good service, great steak and awesome appetizers. The only thing I would recommend for John Howie steak house if they could also provide steak sauce or make a steak sauce of their own.

This was my second trip to JH’s. My first trip was a terrible disappointment. However they sent me a gift certificate, which is what prompted me to return. And am I glad I did. Even though it was a super busy Valentine’s Day night, we had an amazing time! Our waiter and assistant were on point and the food was amazing! We even decided to try their bananas foster, which was delicious and always fun table side! Also don’t get me started on my 35 day aged steak that melted in my mouth as well as those amazing Brussels sprouts! Truly an amazing Birthday/Valentines Day treat!

The music was to loud and the choice of music didn't fit the atmosphere.

We had a great time, the steak was cooked just the way we wanted, ehat I liked the most was our waiter was constantly near by and we didn't have to wait long to order our food.

The food and service were excellent. As New Orleans is home, and I just fine dined there in November, John Howie Steak holds its own when measured against my N.O. bar. Of couse we ended our meal with Bananas Foster...our 3rd table-side-prepared course.
Looking forward to next meal at JHS.

We have been to John Howie 's before, but always for happy hour. This time we went for an early valentine dinner. The food was excellent, the drinks were excellent, and the service was impeccable! Very classy place!

There is no question that this is a quality restaurant. Food and service outstanding, no detail overlooked. We were there on a non-holiday evening, and the place was packed---bar and restaurant. Our servers were quite attentive and friendly.

We marked down on "overall" and "value" due to our bill. It is possible we missed a notation on the menu that described a service charge that would be added to the bill, but if it was present, it wasn't presented in a noteable fashion. To our surprise, a 3% surcharge had been added to the bill to pay for health care, sick/safe leave, and labor costs! When you consider you also had to pay state sales tax on this charge, you are paying a lot of extra money on top of the already-expensive bill for food and drink.

It is our belief that management is 100% responsible for caring for their staff and making them content enough that they will stick around. This includes paying them a living wage and offering enough benefits to entice them to stay employed at your place. These costs should be figured into the total cost of running the restaurant and be reflected in only the prices the business will charge in order to cover these, plus make a profit. Costs of health care and other benefits, whether mandated by the city or state, are the responsibility of the business. If restaurants are finding their costs escalading, they will need to simply raise their prices. In today's economy, it is a little easier for them to do so. Customers would much rather see a small increase in the cost of their food, than get a blatant charge for something that is part of operating expenses. We fear that soon we will be handed a surcharge for cleaning costs (tablecloths, napkins, etc), plumbing (use of restroom), and electricity (lighting, etc).

We would still recommend this place if someone is looking for a classy restaurant, but people must realize they will be paying this added charge, which we personally take an affront to.

Our standard for fine dining is New Orleans, where we have spent a great deal of time. Although we have eaten at many of the premier steak houses in the Seattle area, John Howie Steak brings the kind of ambiance, service, quality of steaks, and preparation that we expect.

I think JHS has lost a bit of its lustre. My recent meal there was _fine_, just fine, but not exceptional.

1) We were on time for our 715p reservation. JHS wasn't ready for us, and our party of four wasn't seated until they could clear a table around 730p. Hey, it's Saturday night. I get it. But this is not what you expect from a top-tier restaurant.

2) Service was prompt, timely, and affable. Courses arrived right about when you'd expect. Ok, check.

3) The steak - an American Wagyu striploin - was very good. But the lobster mac n cheese had one giant glob of lobster in it that didn't seem super-well cooked. Just seemed like sloppy execution. French onion soup was mostly bread. Lacked a certain soup quality. Other sides, like brussels sprouts, were on the money.

Again, not a bad meal. Just not a great one.
