Jerkmaica was founded out of love for spiced, flavoursome caribbean food. I have spent many years with mom and pops learning the secrets of jerking….we now want to share these flavours with you all!

Took my mum and children for Mother’s Day, was a lovely meal, happy staff and great value for money, big tasty portions. Would recommend

Food was average ... do stick to the jerk chicken .. Service good . The place is very dark .. need to sort out the lighting .. no atmosphere as empty .. on a Friday evening . No wine selections .

The food was amazing as always. The staff were super friendly and quick. The portions are very filling and not expensive. Of course the fun cocktails are also a great attraction.

I'm torn writing this review. Upon arrival it was clear that Jerkmaica is not your typical Caribbean restaurant. Other than the empty pigeon peas tins on the tables, there isn't anything in the decor (fairly dark, with back walls) or the ambiance (electronic, slightly too loud) that made us feel like we were in a Caribbean restaurant. I don't think that the restaurant is looking to cater to a Caribbean crowd - more on this later The staff, however, were lovely and very welcoming. Whilst the food wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. Neither our jerk dish or our goat had the fruity heat of scotch bonnet present, our rice was under seasoned, and the dishes lacked sauce - yes, even the curry goat. In fact, some of the lack of flavour stemmed from using the leaner cut of goat, which dried it out slightly, and not meat on the bone. Whilst I acknowledge that a number of Caribbean joints overdo it with spice sometimes, this place does feel like it's anglicised Jamaican food. It's no bad think if your catering to a particular market (and in Crouch End, I guess it makes sense). But I guess that Big Narstie was right when he says that the places with the worst service serve the pengest Caribbean food.

If you want soul in a bowl then this is your place. The food very flavoursome and tasty. The portions are hearty but not too big. My wife and I both had Hoppin Johns bowls, I had the the goat and my wife had the jerk chicken, the goat was lovingly cooked, melted in the mouth with a smooth mildly spiced and really tasty sauce, the jerk chicken was beautifully spiced with a warming kick and was also moist and succulent. The music set up was Carnival style with a big speaker in the corner, the sound level was managed really well and the music was funky. Staff and Chef are friendly, welcoming and wear smiles, the Chef (I think he was the owner) really knows his food inside out. This was our first time at Jerkmaica and we are going back very soon! PS. The Montego Mojito should not be over looked. Do yourself a favour and book a table if you love food for and from the soul.
