   kitchen is cutting corners…salad was either served on hot plate or sat in window. lettuce was brown too. bartender was too busy doing side work to serve us three drinks. Jax used to be much better. i won’t be back.

   Our server quit and left the restaurant after our appetizer and our new server failed to tell us she didn’t put in our orders until we had waited 30 minutes. We asked for no onions and a half salad and got a full salad and a entrees loaded with onions. Total shiz show for a $100+ meal.

   Jax used to be a delightful and delicious place. Not so any longer. Octopus appetizer was fully scorched, salmon ok-ish, and fish/chips adequate at best. Fries were tasty. Wait staff hurried and it showed. Sadly, crossing this place off our list of seafood go-tos.

   We had to go with our 4th option for dinner because they were out of tuna, salmon, and the lobster Mac. They were also out of the dessert he mentioned when we first got there. Then they didn’t have enough ingredients to make the tiramisu martini we ordered. Very frustrating experience. I felt bad for the server. But, the shortages are probably going to keep us from going back any time soon.

    First time dining here. Our server was very friendly, however we were disappointed with the food. For specializing in seafood entrees, it was a let down experience.

    Jax restaurant is a cool place and in a great location. The people who work there are very helpful and our service was great! The oysters were very fresh and great value. Limited wine choices by the glass. The menu has exceptionally good choices for dinner- however, neither of our meals measured up to the description of the dish and they were lack luster at that flavor wise. Very boring! Salmon dish- very little seasoning, mushrooms were cold, broccoli was burnt… the sole dish- again no seasoning on anything, small piece of fish- very thin. I would go for the raw bar- but nothing else.

    Went with our kids while in town for an event. They were great with them (age 9,11,13) showing them the fish, helping with food decisions etc. chargrilled oysters are excellent. Definitely worth a trip.

    We ate here for our Valentines Day dinner. The menu was limited but all of the choices were delicious. Food and service was wonderful. I do feel the prices were a little too pricey for the serving size, but overall it was a great experience.

    The food quality was poor for the $85 set menu for Valentines Day. The noodles with the lobster were not fully cooked and had absolutely no sauce on them. The menu stated it was a lobster tail but did not indicate that the tail was cut up into bite size pieces and not still in the shell as would be expected. The martini was very watered down. The only upside to the experience was that the server was good and the oysters we had were good.

    Over priced average food. The waitstaff is ok, but they don’t honor your reservation and instead default to first come first served.

    First the good - peel and eat shrimp and salmon were great. Crab cake was divine! Hesitated to order at that price point, but it was worth it. Cocktails were also very good. Bartender provided support to our server and he was great - attentive, asked how everything was, pre-bussed, etc. The mediocre - our server. Friendly, but not very knowledgeable in providing a more upscale dining experience. We ordered, server came back and informed me the item I had selected wasn’t available. No problem, I peruse the menu again and select something different. My guest thought that sounded better to her than what she’d originally ordered. When the server came back, I ordered and my guest stated she wanted to have the same thing, but server said she had already turned in her order (without mine). What? Her order had now been in 10 minutes (and was likely close to done) and she hadn’t even submitted my order. I ordered gumbo and the crab cake and asked they be served together. My guest’s meal arrived about two minutes after I ordered and the server quickly brings out my gumbo. It’s tepid at best, so I ask that she take it back and bring a hot serving with the crab cake, please. Five minutes later the crab cake is served with the exact same cup of tepid soup I had returned. I again asked for a hot cup; I received the same cup again, presumably microwaved, because it is now scalding. Overall, she wasn’t terribly attentive, didn’t once ask how our food was, walked away from dirty dishes on the table, etc. The not great - the gumbo. Once it cooled enough that I could taste it, I found it bland and flavorless and definitely no spice to it. Bartender took it off our tab, which was nice. I’ll definitely go back, because the crab cake makes me want to try more of their menu, but will hope for a different server. Atmosphere was nice - friendly vibe. I tipped my usual 20-25%, but 15% would have been more appropriate.

    I’d give the oysters a 5 hands down. They were delicious!! We also got the caviar, and it was good, too. The chowder was tasty, but limited on the seafood. It had a nice size shrimp, and three mussels, one bite size piece of fish, and a couple of bits of chopped clams. The lobster Mac and Cheese was okay, but the collards were super sweet, and virtually inedible. My cocktail had to be remade because the tonic was flat. With all that said, I’d absolutely eat here again. This time all my money would go to oysters. They are out of this world delicious.

    They sat us in the bar for some unknown reason even though the restaurant was not busy at all and we had a reservation for more than a week. The food was pretty good and the service was fine. Some of the food seemed like it had been prepared for a day or two.

    Went here for the first time today. It was the last day of restaurant week her in KC so we decided to give it a try. It was really good. The special for the week was a 3 course meal. For the first course we had gumbo. It was good, but I didn't get any seafood in my portion. For the second course we had the fried North Carolina catfish. It was really good. I'm not a fan of grits so I had it put on the side. For the dessert we had the key lime tart. It was also very good. We added calamari to our meal, because I love calamari lol. And it didn't disappoint. I've never had calamari with aoli but I don't think I'll want it any other way now. All in all it was a great experience. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly and we received great service. We will definitely be going back. Hopefully next time I'll get some shrimp or crawfish in my gumbo

    This used to be one of my favorite spots but the food has really declined in quality (and last night was the thirds and final time in the last year or so that I’ve noticed). I’m disappointed. The gumbo was watery, the oysters were small and gritty (sometimes that can’t be helped, but they were pretty unappealing), and the fish and chips were soggy. I was actually a little bit embarrassed to have recommended this place to friends who joined me and had never been before. One of my friends who had eaten very little that day and was starving ordered the shrimp and grits from the restaurant week menu. It was a tiny portion with three shrimp that looked over cooked. I shared my fries with her because she was still hungry. Ridiculous for $40. Sadly I won’t be back. The service was very good though.

    Started with a variety of oysters which were fresh and delicious. We had some of the bartenders own creation cocktails and loved them. Husband ordered the Hook. It’s a ton of seafood but he ate and enjoyed every bite. Son ordered the lobster roll and really enjoyed his choice. I ordered the lemon sole. Sorry to say I was very disappointed. The fish had a lot of bones and I couldn’t taste any lemon in the lemon sauce. I normally might have mentioned this to our server, but it was my Husband’s birthday and I didn’t want to possibly mar the occasion.

    We were given the happy hour menu and ordered items off of it and the regular menu, but it seems our bill listed all of our food items at the regular menu price instead of happy hour pricing.

    I’ve been here a few times and enjoyed. Yesterday I went for a birthday celebration and it was horrendous. The hostess never acknowledged or greeted, waitress forgot and was flippant, food was too salty and soaked in grease. We ultimately spoke to a manager who was dismissive and seemed to think we wanted a free meal. I even offered to pay everything, it was not about money. I did want a positive experience and good meal….I got neither. Very disappointed. You can’t get back a monumental birthday. Zero out of 5 stars. So disappointed.
