J. Alexander's - Overland Park
Parent’s 50th anniversary
We have eaten at J. Alexander's many times. The food this time was marginal - the baked potato soup seemed more like the cheese dip with NO potatoes. However, the service was excellent, but the price for the quality of the food is not that good.
The staff was well- trained and neatly dressed. I liked that the hostess gave me a black napkin since I had on black pants. That is the sign of a classy restaurant. J. Alexander's is out "go to" place for special occasions as the food and the service are always above par! The carrot cake is a must!
Our waiter was amazing!!!
Great meal. Great service
Delicious!! The best!! The prime rib is mouth watering!
It has a very nice atmosphere and they met our time restrictions very well. Food was not the best I've had, but was good nonetheless.
This is our favorite restaurant for a nice evening out. We have a hard time deciding what to order since we like everything on the menu. The menu includes a wonderful variety of very tasty dishes, all of which include ingredients we like and which are always perfectly prepared and presented. Service is consistently outstanding, attentive but not intrusive. Thank you to our server, Cole.
I have never had a bad meal at J Alexander's and the staff is excellent. My tea class is always full.
Food was delicious and meats done to our taste. Appetizers were just wonderful! Paul was our server and he was great!
Celebrating Fathers Day!
Surprising that we got a same day reservation on Father's day through Open Table at 6:15 PM central. Pat's favorite restaurant and always her choice for her birthday. The salad was above average. The Chicken soup was good. I had Prime Rib (rare), and Pat had Filet Minion (rare). They came as ordered. The horseradish came creamed late (ordered as raw), but this was minor and not brought to the wait staff's attention. Drinks were kept full by a number of the staff (I consume quite a few diet cokes). Restaurant was loud (as per usual). AC was blowing right on me, but a jacket mitigated the temperature. Continues to be the best place in KC for Prime Rib and for the Filet Minion (bar none).
Fathers Day is great at J Alex! Dad, 91 years old said it was the best Filet he’d had in a while. The rattle snake pasta was perfect, creamy & just the right amount of spice. The Mac & cheese is my husbands favorite. Oh, the Prime Rib was Excellent!!!! Our waiter was above par & kept refilling my husbands tea. Visiting from Naples, FL & wish we had one in town. Blessings!
This use to be our go to place for steak or a nice dinner. Usually 2 or 3 times a month we are at this location. The last two times our order has been wrong on the plate. I watch the server write it down so don’t think it’s the servers. This time two whiskeys, on the servers list, I ordered but the bar was out. It was at 5pm on Father’s Day, not a good day to not be prepared. Then they messed up our order again. They also brought out our food one person at a time, so my dad’s food got cold while he waited for the others to get to the table. In addition, they have changed the menu removed some of the best items. We used to get the shrimp appetizer every time we went and now it not an option, even on request. Unfortunately we need to find a new go to steak place.
Service and food wasn’t as superior as it normally is but it was still very good
My husbands steak was amazing and cooked perfect. However mine was over cooked and dry and my mash potatoes were so dry that they were crumbly who wants dry mash potatoes!
I’ve been to J. Alexander many times& the service is always excellent. On Sunday, our drinks didn’t come on time with our dinner...so we had them a bit late. Otherwise, service was nice. I still will recommend this restaurant for a nice meal.
We love J Alexander's but this experience was the best.
Food was so-so for the price. Waitress excellent as she helped friend with diabetes problem.
Ambiance is one of casual elegance. Can show up in jeans and a button down or slacks and a jacket. Food was very good, not too large of portions or too small. Service was excellent and we were well-attended without being hovered over. Recommendations from our server were on point as well. Would definitely recommend.
I have been a fan of J Alexander's since living in Toledo, OH, and was so happy to find when I moved to Overland Park one here! It wasn't hard to pick a place for a girls' dinner. We all loved it!
Great food and service
Birthday dinner for my husband! Great food, great service
Never have to wonder how the experience and food will be. Always the best of everything.
Michael was a very new waiter in training and there were a few things that could have been better.
But in general the service there has been good.
The best place in the city. Great staff and service and food is always good. Great spot for lunch.
I so much want to give this restaurant a 5-star rating, mostly because it is conveniently located near my office and because there really should be no reason for this restaurant to fail to perform perfectly. However, the several times I have dined at J. Alexander's has been met with disappointment.
Recently, I made a reservation for Wednesday 7:00 pm, for my wife and I to celebrate and enjoy our 41st wedding anniversary. (I informed on the reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary.) We were seated in probably the worse location in the restaurant -- immediately in front of a very loud, obnoxious bar and immediately next to a cash register where wait staff (sometimes 5 at once) would mingle and chat loudly (they probably had to chat loudly because they couldn't hear given the noise from the bar). We were completely miserable! I could not hear my wife over the loudness of the bar and the loudness of the wait staff. Then, on top of that, a greeter/seater kept coming back to talk with the table immediately behind us and this greeter/seater was the loudest of them all. Quite annoying to say the very least about this experience.
When it came time for the meal to be delivered to our table, they brought us someone else's dinner. I told the server who brought the food that I did not order what she was setting down in front of us, and she seemed puzzled; but, they didn't take the food away. About 1 minute later, the servers came back and took the meal from off our table and delivered it to another table. I told our waitress that when finally the servers bring our meal to us, would she please confirm that our meal wasn't first delivered to another table (as I thought this was a bit unsanitary).
Both my wife and I ordered the center cut Filet Mignon. It was seriously over seasoned, containing way too much garlic and salt, which completely ruined the steaks. The good items we enjoyed: starter Spinach Con Queso, Side House Salads, & the baked potato.
Trainee was great. He’ll be an asset to the staff.
Great meal. Good service.
As always , J Alexander’s was top notch. My wife and I were there for our 42nd Anniversary dinner. Our waiter was impeccable and attentive. His service was 5 stars. The food was prepared to perfection , the salad, steaks, potatoes , everything. It was amazing how fast it was prepared as well. I highly recommend J Alexander’s for any dining occasion.
The steak was cooked too fast, had no taste other than tasting charred. Very disappointing.
We've been to J Alexanders multiple times. Always good food and consistency. This time I had a bit of an issue with the service. We noted it was a special occasion for a birthday on OpenTable. It even said it on the card J Alexanders used to seat us/leave at our table. No one mentioned it. We asked our server if she could take a birthday photo for us which she did but still nothing was said. No candle in our carrot cake etc. Also, ordered a $100 bottle of wine and other than the initial pour, we poured the rest. Most places don't seem to decant anymore. (Why doesn't every restaurant use the mini wine aerators for bottles ordered?! Seems like a no brainer to me!) Only other observation is the straw french fries (that come with the delicious crab cakes) are always over-cooked/too crunchy! They are like what you'd get out of a bag. Other than that the rest (appetizer/entrees) were good. We will be back and I'll just need to remember to sub my fries and bring our own aerator!
The food was very lackluster… We were given an hour solid at the same time as our meal a cold while we ate a salad… The waitress repeatedly put items on the very corner of the table such as appetizer plates and water glasses,Our bill was not correct the waitress did make it right. It was not the type of meal we expect from J Alexander’s and our party were disappointed with the food and the service
Awesome as always! Thank you for always making our dining experience special.
I have always enjoyed dining at J. Alexander's and it has been one of my family's favorite places to go for celebrations or for terrific food, whether we are here in Kansas City or in Memphis. The food is perfectly prepared and delicious. It arrives at your table quickly, regardless of how busy they are. The service is impeccable and most of the time you don't realize that they are taking care of you, they are quiet and unobtrusive. The cost is on par with what you would expect to pay for great food and service such as this. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.
You can always count on J. Alexanders to bring it....with great food, great service. They never miss!
I called the restaurant to change my reservation to 5 people instead of 4 the day before, and when I arrived they had no idea this had been modified. They acted like I was lying to them. It was very unprofessional. They ended up accommodating us at a 4 person table.
