Isola la Jolla Ratings and Reviews
I love this restaurant. We were here New Year's Eve and came back for Happy Hour last evening. I am very sensitive to background music as I find it distracting and the music does get a bit past the "background." But the staff is genuinely kind and enthusiastic about their guests and the food is deeelicious. Will put it on a regular schedule now.
This is one of the best wood-fired pizza places in the San Diego area. The taste of the crust reminds me of what my Sicilian grandmother used to make. There are so many other options on the menu too that it's easy to order a few different plates and let everyone share.
I visit La Jolla 2 to 3 times a year and every visit includes a stop at Isola! Many thanks to the staff who makes this so memorable!
Awesome place. They have issues with reservations. 2nd time when there was no table ready. First time was Wine Dinner they hadn’t “shut off” Open Tables and we sat at bar and had great experience with Jacob. Last night l, there was a “Yelp” photo shoot keeping us from getting a table. Hostess overwhelmed and line of guest unhappy. We sat at the bar and thank goodness Jacob was there. Will probably just sit at bar moving forward. One of our favorite spots in the area but they need to get the seating figured out.
The seafood pasta had no flavor and no salt. We have ordered it in two special occasions and this time has been the worst. No love. It's a bad combo for primi since the pizza is so delicious. The appetizers are also very nice. The service was only good when Isola first opened. Every time we go now it just becomes worst and worst. The hostess and servers are all poor and inhospitable.
We stopped in for happy hour prior to Movies at the lot. We will be back most certainly. The happy hour menu is just perfect for us and we will continue to tell our La Jolla friends about this relatively new place.
We might have been a bit noisy, so for that we apologize. But we were there very early in the happy hour time frame and hopefully did not disrupt any of your other guests.
Isola was the perfect spot for dinner before attending a performance at La Jolla Playhouse. Our server, Megan, was very knowledgeable about menu choices and attentive without hovering at our table. The cannelloni beans appetizer was delicious! We had the quatro cano (meat) pizza which was hearty and flavorful, and the mozzarella and artichoke pizza which was more delicate and still delicious. Add a very fresh green salad and all was perfect! We also shared the panna cota desert - delicate custard with super fresh fruit! Thanks, we will return soon.
While the pizza is very good, this is MUCH, MUCH more than just a pizza place. The salads, pastas and entrees are exceptional, and they are willing to customize to your preferences. The wines by the glass are also first rate. This is the equal of any Italian restaurant I've ever been to.
Isola in La Jolla has a slightly different menu from the Little Italy location - it was nice to have the added pasta options, which were very good. The fried seafood/vegetable appetizer was a disappointment, as the food was not crisp and oil dripped from it. The restaurant was busy and our service was a bit lacking. Still, they have a nice atmosphere, good quality ingredients and nice presentation.
Was surprised that confirmed reservation did not result in an actual reserved table. Waited 20 minutes after reservation time for table to open up -- basically same result as if we had just walked up without a reservation. Must not be unusual here -- staff was not especially apologetic or embarrassed by poor management. Food was good though. Next time will opt for Alta Marea.
Finally! Authentic Italian Pizza in San Diego. Fresh ingredients, delicious food, and a chef who cares about the menu and his diners. We drove from Carlsbad just by looking at the pictures and we weren't disappointed as with many pizza restaurants in the area. We are thrilled to have found Isola!
This was the best, most authentic Italian food I have found outside of Italy. The pappardelle al pesto was incredible and I'm still dreaming about it days later. I don't normally leave restaurant reviews, but I felt compelled to based on the high quality of the meal.
