The event I attended at the Boulderado included a four-course tasting menu with paired wines. The wine was good to very good, and the food was extraordinary: delicious and creative, with great attention to detail.

Very disappointing. The whole family was disappointed. Paying $100+/plate in total, we expected more. Our reservation was for 4:15 pm and, it was advertised, the last reservations of the dinner were taken for 5:00 pm. The expectation is that the items described on the menu will be available to the last seated customers. It seems quite a number of items were 'run out of', so to speak. There appeared to be no crab claws to be found, the fruit and cheese platters were quite limited in variety, and the dessert selection was deplorable with many items not available. Very disappointing, not sure we'll ever be back even though this Christmas dinner at the Boulderado mezzanine had become almost a family tradition. Please forward this review to the Hotel Boulderado management. Thank you.

The hotel is fantastic, with a gorgeous Christmas tree and beautiful woodwork and stained glass. I cannot fault the physical accommodations or the service; the person assigned to keep our drinks topped up was friendly and cheerful. Since it was Christmas, that really was appreciated as it can't be great to work on a major family holiday. However, the food was *shockingly* bad and unappetizing. Potatoes were about 80% cooked. And room temperature. The Brussels sprouts were tough and room temperature. They ran out of pecan pie. The Christmas cookies were bland. The parsnips were earthy, but unherbed. The quinoa stuffed bell peppers were seasoned with only (cayenne? black pepper?) and bland except for minor heat. They were also room temperature. My dinner guests were served carving station prime rib that bled on the plate. The fruit on the trays was tired looking. Highlights were the delicious salad and a smoky cheese on the fruit tray. I would have been happier with a mediocre pre-cooked dinner from a grocery store. I would have expected its low quality and it would have cost less than $400 for 3 people.

I have been attending holiday buffet events for (decades) with my family. More than one selection at the buffet was not cooked appropriately, borderline raw. Some of the dessert selections were cold and the Christmas cookies had very little taste and thick/heavy dough. Others, such as, the creme brulee had raspberries in the tiny ramekin. Why? No omelette station this year. I could go on. The BEAUTIFUL historic location and attentive service were amazing, as usual! I am sure people will continue to come to "special events" for the atmosphere alone. However, it would be nice to indulge in food was prepared better.

The food at the holiday Tea this year was disappointing. We’ve been coming for years, so can compare. The scones were tiny and overcooked. We had to request more sandwiches, they were so small. We’ll be back because it’s a family tradition, but I won’t recommend to others as I have before. Bummer.

Nicely decorated, lovely choir, good service, but nasty savories and scones. The scones were very small, hard, and crumbled apart and tasted bad. The savories were for the most part stale and tasteless. We were so displeased with the food that we decided to pack up the sweets and leave after paying our bill…which to our surprise included a 20% “service charge”! This was our second holiday tea at Hotel Boulderado, and we’d expected to repeat our charming first experience but it didn’t turn out that way. This visit was definitely not worth the price.

We have been going to the Boulderado Christmas tea for several years … this year the food was not as good , the tea wasn’t great, and the three tree was sad. I also was charged a 20# service charge on top of tax and tip. What use to be a $75 beautiful outing has changed into a $200 disappointing tea

My Boulderado Holiday Tea reservation was made a month in advance, yet the 4 of us were seated at a table for 6 making conversation difficult and the lazy susan of food impossible for all of us to reach. We had no service for 30 minutes after we were seated, not even drinks, and the food was stale and bad tasting. The final insult was the 20% service charge added to the bill with no forwarding. BAD SERVICE, BAD FOOD, BAD VALUE!

The setting was magnificent. The food good - portions small - not as fresh as one might expect. The service was outstanding even when the mezzanine started filling in. The tea selection was perfect -varied and interesting. A 2 piece ensemble played music which we could hear when waiting to be seated, but not at all from where we were seated. The Hotel Boulderado is a gem! The organizer did a fabulous job with table settings and decor - the food did not fit the beautiful setting.

The wine tasting experience was ok. It Isa advertised as a wine tasting with “bites,” but there wasn’t enough to eat and there wasn’t enough to drink. It was organized as a seated 4 course meal and it felt silly to be formally seated for a morsel of food. It would have been more fun, and loved faster if it was set up as a buffet, or hors d’oeurves. We walked out hungry and thirsty after 2 hours of service. I would suggest changing the format, or charging more and offering full size portions for a seated dinner

we were confused about what the service charge covered...it was over $30. In addition to the cost of the beautiful experience plus 20% gratuity and tax it seemed much just for booking this through Open Table if that was the case. Otherwise a very special and memorable Christmas experience for my daughters, granddaughter and myself.

We were so looking forward to this and are still upset about our experience the next day. Our services was incredibly slow and our server was not knowledgeable or helpful. We paid for 2 adults and 2 kids and only received 1 tray of food. Our tea came 30 min before the food so we didn’t get enjoy tea with our food and our food took over an hour to come out. When we tried to have our server help us she was incredibly defensive and basically said this is how it was. Very very disappointing!!!!!

They charge too much for what you get. It was $218 for my family of 4 to drink one thin glass of prosecco each, one bitter hot chocolate, and small tea sandwiches that were average. The pastries were the highlight. The decor was pretty and the staff was attentive enough, but not really friendly. I'd rather spend that kind of money on an actual dinner at a nice restaurant than go back again for the tea. Disappointing and I don't recommend.

We had high expectations a festive afternoon at the Teddy Bear Holiday Tea with Santa but it was disappointing. The setting and decorations were nice, but we were seated alone in a corner (maybe because we had kids?) despite the place being almost empty. We expected music, but there was none. The tea and food were good, especially the desserts, but the buffet was not freshly stocked. Server was nice but not very attentive (again the place was not crowded or busy at the time). The worst part was when we were informed that our kids couldn’t see Santa because he had to go feed the reindeer! My kids were so disappointed and confused. No one even apologized (until I called later to complain). Overall, it was not what we expected from a place with a world-class reputation like the Boulderado. We will not be back.

This was for an annual Children's Hospital Fundraising Tea, so the price was not an issue. The problem was really on two levels. First, we had 4 people seated at a table that was approximated 2' round and against a railing. So 4 of us had access to approximately 3/4 of the table, with a 1/4 of the table inaccessible due to the railing. We were sitting quite close to each other. There was really not enough room on the table for our tea pots, water glasses, finger sandwiches and sugar/jam. It is has to be comfortable when you are put in that small of a space. The frustrating part was that most of the tables in the mezzanine were empty, so it was not an issue of availability. The service one a "one and done" where our drink/tea order was taken, delivered and never seen again. I had to flag down our server to get our check. This is not what I would expect at the Boulderado. Overall I was a bit disappointed, but not enough to keep me from going back for the same fundraiser next year.

Do not use Open Table for this restaurant. We confirmed our reservation yesterday and arrived this morning to be told they could not seat us. The hostess said this reservation was for the dining room, which was not open. No effort made to seat us, we were just turned away. We went to Lucille’s close by and it was very good.
