Hook and Ladder Manufacturing Company
While looking into Sacramento’s past, we found that the Industrial Revolution was a fundamental time of change in the region. Steam boats pumped up and down the Sacramento River, and the Nation’s first Transcontinental Railroad was nearing completion. This period of bustling commerce and innovation helped lay the foundation of our city. During the year of 1850, a series of fires destroyed much of the city of Sacramento. A volunteer group, “The Mutual Hook and Ladder Company,” assembled to help rebuild and prevent future disasters.
We aim to rejuvenate the historic space at 17th & S streets by celebrating this time of industry and growth. Our goal is to build upon our city commerce and contribute to Sacramento’s future.

vegan pizza was really bad. seemed to lack flavor. some cheese might have helped.
Trout dish was superb - great mix of flavors. Waitstaff recommended the perfect wine to pair and was very attentive. Shrimp appetizer was tasty but swimming in butter (maybe that's how it was supposed to be but not to my taste).
More like 4.5 stars. A fun place, good menu, very good preparation, excellent service. And they have an outstanding selection of high-end bourbons — Eagle Rare, Blanton, etc. (I don't know about their other liquors. The wine-by-the glass choices were very limited but they were good choices.). It was my first time there and I'll be back.
Excellent Brunch - food amazing, service attentive and pleasant.
We normally love Hook and Ladder but weren't satisfied with either dessert option for the Dine Downtown special. The cannoli had almost no taste; it was a plain fried dough with plain cream. The olive oil cake was a little better but there wasn't anything memorable about it and I wouldn't get it again if I had the choice. The rest of the menu was delicious but since 1/3 of our meal was nothing to write home about we were disappointed. Next time we'll opt for the regular menu and avoid a pre fixe option.
Food was great as was the service
Host (male) was not welcoming.
Waiter was great!
Food and service was great
We really liked the ambiance of this unique place, the excellent farm-to-fork selection and ingredients and great food choices. Our courses were all delicious. Our main courses took a while, but our very friendly waitress nipped any dissatisfaction in the butt with a little plate of almonds and olives to nibble on while we were waiting - very attentive and nice service.
Loved the vegan menu! So many choices.
New to the area and needed a new spot. Absolutely love the environment and service. Food and drinks were excellent.
This has been my Sacramento go-to for 3 years now - great cocktails, brunch, menu (changes here and there), chacuterie boards and more. It's not too fancy but the vibe is a blend of hip, modern, trendy and chill...perfect for any time of day or occasion (or lack of).
The cocktails, the food ,the dessert were all amazing and might be the best new years eve dinner I've ever had. That duck 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! 5 stars all the way!
Highly recommend this distinct Midtown restaurant. Original, handcrafted cocktails, small plates and big plates both excellent. Definitely try the garlic shrimp!
Very good meal overall. Service was excellent and beer/cocktails were stellar.
Awesome food and awesome ambiance - matched with an awesome wait staff. Vee totally rocked it once again. She is what makes our rating of Hook and Ladder go from a 4th place as a favorite to a tie for 2nd, maybe even first :-) And we eat out a lot. Keep her forever!!
Awesome food and service once again. This has become one of our top three places to dine at in all of Sacramento.
The service was very slow for a Tuesday night. Took more than 2 hours and we were seated right away.
Great dining experience. The food is truly amazing! We will definitely return.
First time at this place, but definitely not the last! Great ambiance and amazing service!!
Food was amazing and service was top notch. Looking forward to my return visit.
I am giving this place overall 5 stars. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and was able to pick seating - love the heated patio. First time trying the place and I was enjoying it - such a good time I didn’t realize how long our order was taking to come out due to a party of 20 before us. Waitress was super accommodating and brought out a few of their different appetizers to try while we waited. The chickpea fritter is amazing - I honestly couldn’t recommend more. Like nothing you’ve ever had before.
We had the chef’s tasting, and it was phenomenal. Well above my expectactions. Service was great, too.
First, I will say that the food was very good. We were pleased all around with the quality and flavors. The staff were available and attentive. The service did not deliver seamlessly and had some room to be more intuitive. We shared feedback with the restaurant. The general manager was very timely and sincere in his response. We may have caught them early on a night when they hadn't hit their stride. We'll give it anther try in the future. The house-made passion fruit tonic water won over one of the ladies at the table and I enjoyed the peanut butter fudge at the end! The staff believe in the food and sell it well. It was a not an instant Hook, but it may be in the future.
Vee was awesome of course. Her suggestions are always fantastic and she always makes us feel so welcome. This has become one of our solid go to eats on almost every occasion because of the excellent food and excellent service.
Love the food and atmosphere! Will definitely be back!
Really delicious brunch - nice twists on regular brunch items. Will go back.
Great service, though we were there before the evening rush. We had “the good life” dish which was brought out to the table by the chef. Absolutely incredible!
Great menu and wine selection!
Food is SO good!!!
Great food, Chefs selection was excellent and appreciated his visiting with us.
We enjoyed our dinner on the outside back patio. We began with the House Gin and Tonic, which was delicious. The House Special of homemade spaghetti with shrimp and meat sauce was wonderful. It had a “bit of heat” to it, which made the Hook and Ladder experience perfect for an old retired firefighter. Service from front door welcome to dinner is served was excellent. We’d definitely go back.
The service was amazing. The food was delicious. I would recommend to friends and family.
Excellent food and service. Top three favorites restaurants in Sac area.
Fun place, good food!
Wedding week and we had a big crowd. They made a super long table for us. It was great!
Great place to eat amazing food. The special was amazing!!!
The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. The menu items are created with fresh, high quality ingredients that blend perfectly. Our server was friendly and attentive. She made sure our dining experience was top notch. We highly recommend Hook & Ladder and can’t wait to go back.
We called ahead and got a quiet table. Thanks!
