Hidalgo’s Cocina & Cócteles
Food is really really good and it’s a very pretty place. But the service was awful…ended up eating the meal with no drink refills. Also, the table we got sat at wasn’t big enough for our meal and we shared a meal. Plenty of other seats available that were a little better.
Hidalgo’s has much improved! Drink selection is terrific with the added margarita flight. And the service was amazing!!! Hats off to the new manager- : )
Yummy food, never disappoints
This is a hidden gem here in Downtown Fullerton. Ambiance was awseome. We were seated in the patio and the lighting was just perfect. Food and beverage selections are good. Our server Paula was nice and accommodating. Will come here again.
We arrived at about 7:03 pm and got seated right away. We were in a visible area in the middle of the dining room. No one ever came to greet us, offer us water or anything for over 10 min. At 7:16 we simply walked out. I don’t even know if they noticed. It’s a shame because we have frequented that place before.
Salmon was delicious. Our waitress was very nice and friendly.
I’ve been here before…it’s so pretty. BUT this time I made a reservation for my mother’s 82nd birthday. Due to Covid we thought it would be nice to sit in the shady central patio. Where it would be conducive to conversation and relatively safe.
What they don’t tell you when you make a reservation online is that they’ve already booked the central patio for a party and you’re not allowed to sit there. So our choices were sit inside which felt unsafe or sit outside near Harbor Boulevard which is super loud.
My mother chose to sit inside under a fan and we felt relatively safe because the doors were open and there was a breeze. As soon as we sat down the music was turned up and everyone in the restaurant started to talk really loud. My cousin asked the wait staff to turn down the music just a tad and happily, they did it. The reduced volume really helped… all the patrons relaxed and resumed speaking at a normal volume.
We were there at 5:30 in the evening early enough, we thought, to take our time, and eat some appetizers before deciding what to eat. The young waitress was pretty rushy, maybe it was her idea of good service, But she kept asking if we wanted to order and it felt intrusive. No there were not a lot of people there. In fact we were almost the first people to arrive.
It seemed every time we asked for some thing on the menu they were out of it so we were pretty confounded. Ultimately we ordered some Carne Asada tacos and those were great.
I think we ended up feeling a bit disappointed everything was just a little bit harder than it needed to be but this place has so much potential
The Short Rib Chile Relleno and the Salmon entrees were very good and something you don't usually see at a typical Mexican restaurant.
Do not filled out my expectations at all, not even the music was Mexican .
We were not pleased with our dish. I had the chille relleno and my best friend the paella. The drinks were on point! We had a couple mojitos and the sangria
It’s was my birthday and made reservations for a party of 9. When we were seated our waiter seemed bothered and annoyed. I understand that times are hard and you are short staffed. The waiter didn’t even offer dessert and I was looking forward to blowing out at one candle in front of my family. My whole experience was very sad. The manager was not to receptive to what was going on.
Had a wonderful dinner in the courtyard at Hidalgo. Service was excellent and unhurried. Food was delicious. We will definitely be back!
My four friends and I enjoyed our time and our meal very much. The only reason I rated the noise level as "energetic" is that the outside dining is next to a busy street. But after a while, the car sounds just become white noise. We stayed for almost three hours!
Great place for dinner.
Food was delicious, the setting was great, thank you.
Service was grea. Parking was far away since we didn’t know that valet parking was available. Few selections for dinner. Food was not good in comparison with prices.
My Wife and I had been wanting to come here for a few months. We finally did this weekend. We sat outside under the tropical foliage. Our server was Chaz and she was the sweetest server ever. Drinks... Old Fashioned, Cadillac, and House margarita, PERFECT!
Food...Chicken and 3 cheese enchiladas for me and Lime Garlic Butter Salmon with sautéed spinach. Out! Standing!!!!!
Will def be coming back with family and friends
Ordered the cochinita pibil. Brought me paella. Waitress argued with me when I told her this wasn't what I ordered. She said it was pibil. She gets a menu to prove her point. Realizes her error and takes away the wrong dish. The pibil I receive is bland and missing all the fixings. No onion, no cheese. Overall disappointing. Waitress does not make up for this with excellent service. She never returns to refill drinks or check on us. Just comes to take away our plates before we finished eating. The other people I was with said their drinks were strong and their tacos and wet burrito were delicious though.
Had a wonderful night out. Amazing food and ambience in the courtyard area. I couldn't have imagined it being any better.
Made a reservation to sit in the patio yet I was seated outside the restaurant on a noisy street where the ambulance passed through every 5minutes. Why even make a reservation???
Food was great. Definitely would come here again. Great service and ambience
Second time coming here, brought my parents along and they loved it too! Drinks, food and service is great here!!
They have the best margaritas here!! Service was amazing, as well as food. We will definitely be back here. If life wasn’t so busy I’d be back for a margarita the day after we went !
HORRIBLE!!! We booked this reservation for 5 people at 2:30 on Fourth of July. When we arrived we found out that the restaurant would stop serving food at 2:45. I was shocked that the restaurant didn’t even call us in advance to let us know. We would have gladly come an hour earlier if we had known. The food was just okay. They have changed the menu and not for the better. The cheese fondu dip had a disgusting texture. The guacamole had two whole avocado pieces that were completely in tact. The service was good and I still gave a good tip because it’s not the servers fault. The service was also very fast because they were closing shortly after we arrived. Why would they even allow for a 2:30 reservation? Never again!
What a great restaurant. My chicken and shrimp tacos were perfect and the accompanying salsas were even better than that. The staff were friendly and responsive. The ambiance was terrific as we ate our delicious meal in a quite courtyard. I cannot recommend Hidalgo enough.
Crappy cold food tasteless had no flavor. Server kept forgetting everything
Anniversary dinner should have been somewhere else. Ordered surf and turf (said serves 2) They didn’t have sausage so asked for extra meat. Was not given. Very small piece of meat. Was not worth the price tag whatsoever. We have gotten the same type of meal at a smaller Mexican restaurant for half the price and much better taste. Service was ok but they didn’t bring us any silver ware till after the food came and had to keep asking for more. Only brought enough for the meal but it was meant for 2 (meal states for 2 on menu) drinks were forgettable and small. Would not recommend. $100 for 2 people and would have enjoyed our anniversary anywhere else for that price.
It's been awhile since we've been to Hidalgo. Was pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to going back again. Food was outstanding, the service was quick and pleasant, and overall we had an enjoyable evening.
Glad the chicken tacos on Taco Tuesday menu, wish they were on the new menu too. Service was a little shaky with two people in our party not getting their food until after everyone else had eaten. They still make the BEST margaritas!!!
Great food and service
Small menu focuses on doing them well. It was all pretty good (shrimp and carnitas tacos). Oddly enough, the best thing was my kid’s chicken quesadilla. It is hands down the best chicken quesadilla I have EVER had. The chicken was moist, seemed to be made for the dish rather than a leftover bit that dried out. Great cheese ratio and then the whole quesadilla was grilled on the same grill as the freshly made chicken. It was delicious! The house margarita and the palomas were tasty and freshly made too. Short rib and goat cheese enchiladas were ok, same with the house guacamole (made with Bacon and Haas avocados I suspect), so I will pass next time, so I can get another chicken quesadilla!
I reserved a table for 3 on the patio. When we got there, we were told there were no tables were available on the patio, and that my reservation "was not a guarantee." There was no apology whatsoever. Indoor dining was pretty empty... the waiters/waitresses had the time to fold napkins and arrange glasses; and yet, the service was slow, and I had to start getting up to ask for my cocktail because it was taking so long. The busboy was the only one who had any personality or seemed to care we were there.
We were made to feel like an afterthought.
The food was mediocre, not at all memorable.
First and last time I dine at Hidalgo's.
Delightful surprise for a last minute reservation in Downtown Fullerton on a Friday night. The outdoor seating in the courtyard was nice touch. Highly recommend the shrimp tacos.
Amazing! The food was great, the drinks were fantastic, and service was on-point. We will 100% be back.
The margarita was phenomenal as well as the food. This is one of our favorite date night spots because of the courtyard and the ambience.
Friendly service. Great ambiance. Food is delicious 😋
Came here for my birthday dinner! The food and ambiance was great!
Good food/limited menu. Great tequila old fashioned. Loved the enchiladas.
The service was horrible. We were the only ones inside the restaurant. The waitress came back to our table 3 times to confirm the sauce on my dish. She didn't seem to be able to recall any information. We had to request drinks we did not receive. We waited 40 minutes for our food. We understand there was seating outside but only saw a couple of dishes walked out in those 40 minutes. The food itself was disappointing. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience.
Hidalgo's makes the best House Margarita's EVER!!!
