About
We tried this place based on reviews and it didn’t fail us. We ordered their waffles , sausages, curly fries (a must!) and more and everything was pretty good! Service was good too!
Great location, great food. Just a shame it closes
Love this place every time I come in!
We went for brunch and the food was fantastic. I want to come back to explore the menu more but we got the Jerusalem bagel and the avocado toast and a side of hash browns. Everything was well prepared and as well portioned.
It was okay, portions were generous but not amazing, drinks were fine, service was okay, aesthetic was confused.
Delicious food! Amazing ambience. Great attentive staff.
I put this place off for a while but man was I wrong. This dinner was by the far the best I've had in 2020 so far. I can't wait to go back! Now of the dishes are as they seem and all have an Asian fusion to some pretty well established plates from different cuisines. Every single thing we ordered was a 5 star dish. Order everything as you simply can't go wrong!
Great food. Great drinks. Good service. Fun atmosphere.
It was pretty pricey for the tiny, tiny portions of food. I'm not sure I would return as the food was hit and miss and definitely not worth the cost.
This was my second time at this restaurant and it did not disappoint! The flavors in each dish are so surprisingly fresh and complex. I have tried a number of different dishes and there has not been a single one that was not top notch. The desserts are also out of this world fantastic!
Service is great. Entrees were terrific, but raw fish was just ok. Seats are not cushioned so after 10 mins it was not comfortable. It’s not the best sit down restaurant relative to the price.
Food and drinks were amazing. Definitely going again.
Worthy of said hype. Sit at the bar, talk with your bartender, get intel on what's good, order what he/she says. Have a great meal.
We had one vegetarian and the kitchen refused to serve a salad with dressing on the side, so she had only three things on the whole menu to choose from.
I believe in no substitutions, but no dressing on the side takes that too far.
Food was great but I would neither return nor recommend to friends based on their approach to service.
Food is amazing but drinks are a bit pricey
Wow! The cocktails deserve their own call out! Unique, delicious, and presented with their own menu, they made the meal super amazing. Food was creative and fun takes on classics, with a little surprise in each dish. Definitely recommend for the fun brunch crowd.
Amazing food, amazing service and did I mention the food. New fav restaurant in LA!
Every single thing we ordered was a true delight! The pairings were thoughtful and interesting. The cocktails were to die for! We were three 30 year old girls, dining before a show at the Wiltern but it'd be great for a date night or with family!
Bread Lounge has a great jerusalem bagel for like less than $5 Yours was so bready, it was nearly stale. And with a price tag of $17. That's a bit insane. The labne was not better than traditional cream cheese either.
I was there for DINELA so the menu was atypical. 8 ish courses minus drinks for $49 was a great value. Flavors and presentation we're unusual, very fresh ingredients and subtly combined. Bonus: affordable valet parking.
Waiters were inattentive and unfriendly. The food was horrible, warm dishes came cold, and wine selection isn’t good. Overall experience very poor. Wouldn’t go back.
Had a lovely time here for DineLA restaurant week. Their cocktail menu is great and their menu is extremely playful and inventive. I'd definitely recommend any of the seafood options here.
Always a great experience and the food was fantastic as usual. Our server and hostess were fantastic and provided great suggestions on the brunch menu. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for just a great meal or a place to spend time with friends and family. You can always count on HLAY for a great experience and meal!
AMAZING. BEST IN LA....
Had a reservation for bar seating, arrived on time but was kept waiting for 15-20 minutes. Hostess was attentive snd offered us other seating arrangements but we chose to wait the add’l time for our reserved seats. Cocktail selection was very good and drinks we ordered ranged from satisfactory to excellent: the martini “optimist” was just ok but the “double down sour” was top notch with the asian pear syrup and allspice liqueur making it a delicious drink. Food was awesome! We ordered the bread with shiitake butter, hamachi crudo, bibb salad, and the best of the evening the tomato with bagna cauda and lap xuong.
Great service by both bar staff and wait staff.
Overall a great experience and no hesitation recommending HLAY!
Food was fine, service was poor. We had our first items before our drinks, and my last drink arrived after dessert. Nothing was hot, and we got the impression everything was pre-made. For $200 dinner (for 2), I’d expect a lot better service. The navy beans were actually fantastic, but nothing else was good enough to make a return worth it. We don’t get to go out dates often, so it’s always really sad when we don’t enjoy ourselves.
Each dish was so unique and perfectly prepared. Loved it.
This is quite simply the best brunch in LA. I hesitate to say that here. But the BLT on Texas toast is one the greatest meals I've ver had. Also, the Bloody Mary is unsurpassed. Exceptional in every way. Truly.
Interesting menu with a wide variety of options. We were able to try several dishes since served as small plates meant for sharing. Everything we tried was delicious and we will definitely be back to taste more.
Service failed on this occasion, started out well, food was good as it always was, I was there to celebrate my birthday. They comped the meal.
Nice restaurant overall. Had to wait close to 30 minutes for our reserved bar seating only to find out employees of the restaurant were dining at the bar. Easily could have been seated at an open table to minimize wait time given we had a reservation. Bartender wasn’t very attentive, but did make fairly good menu recommendations.
The best place we ate during our stay in LA.
Really excited to try this place after seeing it in the LA Times Best of 2019. Valet parking in the back lot ($5.00 with validation at brunch). Nice little cozy spot, has an airiness about it and a great vibe. Started out wanting a latte or cappuccino but they only have drip coffee and cold brew. I was really surprised... I can't make a really good latte at home so I always get them when I'm out. Next wanted to order drinks and the Orange Julius sounded good (I think that's what they called it)... but they don't use fresh squeezed juice in their drinks. What? Why not? So didn't bother with the drink. Our waiter was great but he was definitely overwhelmed. Only two servers for the entire place and he just couldn't keep up. Anyway, the biscuit and gravy was really the best thing we ate. Amazing. Both sweet and savory. Also LOVED the chicken liver with the bread and butter pickles on toasted baguette. Shaksuda verde was liked by one of us, not so much the other because her eggs were overcooked with a solid yoke. Waffles just okay... Overall a nice meal but with a few easy improvements it would be my "go to" place.
Great spot, cocktails are yummy and fun! The beef tartar, frog legs and the whole fish were all incredible. My least favorite was dessert the warm mochi, but I hate mochi and forgot lol great Gfree options too!
Friendly staff, attentive to our every need. Great drinks and delicious food!
Our experience for brunch was not what we expected as far as service. Everything was fine except the drink, the server forgot to order our bagel and we waited over 40 minutes for it. He never acknowledged his f.. up and played it cool like it’s cool that we have to wait 40 minutes for a dish. The cocktail, a Julius #2 was not bad just too sweet, it needs some acidity or a spice in my opinion. Overall the food is very good, however either the chef or the server should have realized that we waited forever for a dish, we literally finished all of our food and had to ask for the bagel dish, then waited 15 more minutes for it to be served. I understand a mistake, but the server should own it and acknowledge it.
My only piece of feedback is to work on the lighting a bit--feel a little too bright!
I don’t get up to LA very much but when I do I like to find a new place to eat, and I found this place and really liked it. Like the other reviews the steak tartare was amazing! And the cocktails were pretty good, a little pricey but it’s got a fun tiki environment and we had a good time sitting at the bar. Next time you go to the Wiltern you must check this place out.
We went there for weekend brunch and got beef tartare, tomato, and ham steak. Every dish is extremely salty and we had to drink two glasses of water with each bite.
The food here is cutting edge! If you don’t like sharing, you’ll be in trouble, because when others see what you got, they dive in. The staff is knowledgeable & friendly. We were told we had to be out 1 & 3/4 hrs after our res if we wanted to combine with another duo, but when we hadn’t received all our dishes- they come out randomly- they were most accommodating. THis place is hot!!!
