Here's Looking At You
This is quite simply the best brunch in LA. I hesitate to say that here. But the BLT on Texas toast is one the greatest meals I've ver had. Also, the Bloody Mary is unsurpassed. Exceptional in every way. Truly.
Interesting menu with a wide variety of options. We were able to try several dishes since served as small plates meant for sharing. Everything we tried was delicious and we will definitely be back to taste more.
Service failed on this occasion, started out well, food was good as it always was, I was there to celebrate my birthday. They comped the meal.
Nice restaurant overall. Had to wait close to 30 minutes for our reserved bar seating only to find out employees of the restaurant were dining at the bar. Easily could have been seated at an open table to minimize wait time given we had a reservation. Bartender wasn’t very attentive, but did make fairly good menu recommendations.
The best place we ate during our stay in LA.
Really excited to try this place after seeing it in the LA Times Best of 2019. Valet parking in the back lot ($5.00 with validation at brunch). Nice little cozy spot, has an airiness about it and a great vibe. Started out wanting a latte or cappuccino but they only have drip coffee and cold brew. I was really surprised... I can't make a really good latte at home so I always get them when I'm out. Next wanted to order drinks and the Orange Julius sounded good (I think that's what they called it)... but they don't use fresh squeezed juice in their drinks. What? Why not? So didn't bother with the drink. Our waiter was great but he was definitely overwhelmed. Only two servers for the entire place and he just couldn't keep up. Anyway, the biscuit and gravy was really the best thing we ate. Amazing. Both sweet and savory. Also LOVED the chicken liver with the bread and butter pickles on toasted baguette. Shaksuda verde was liked by one of us, not so much the other because her eggs were overcooked with a solid yoke. Waffles just okay... Overall a nice meal but with a few easy improvements it would be my "go to" place.
Great spot, cocktails are yummy and fun! The beef tartar, frog legs and the whole fish were all incredible. My least favorite was dessert the warm mochi, but I hate mochi and forgot lol great Gfree options too!
Friendly staff, attentive to our every need. Great drinks and delicious food!
Our experience for brunch was not what we expected as far as service. Everything was fine except the drink, the server forgot to order our bagel and we waited over 40 minutes for it. He never acknowledged his f.. up and played it cool like it’s cool that we have to wait 40 minutes for a dish. The cocktail, a Julius #2 was not bad just too sweet, it needs some acidity or a spice in my opinion. Overall the food is very good, however either the chef or the server should have realized that we waited forever for a dish, we literally finished all of our food and had to ask for the bagel dish, then waited 15 more minutes for it to be served. I understand a mistake, but the server should own it and acknowledge it.
My only piece of feedback is to work on the lighting a bit--feel a little too bright!
I don’t get up to LA very much but when I do I like to find a new place to eat, and I found this place and really liked it. Like the other reviews the steak tartare was amazing! And the cocktails were pretty good, a little pricey but it’s got a fun tiki environment and we had a good time sitting at the bar. Next time you go to the Wiltern you must check this place out.
We went there for weekend brunch and got beef tartare, tomato, and ham steak. Every dish is extremely salty and we had to drink two glasses of water with each bite.
The food here is cutting edge! If you don’t like sharing, you’ll be in trouble, because when others see what you got, they dive in. The staff is knowledgeable & friendly. We were told we had to be out 1 & 3/4 hrs after our res if we wanted to combine with another duo, but when we hadn’t received all our dishes- they come out randomly- they were most accommodating. THis place is hot!!!
We were going to a concert at The Wiltern a little later and decided to grab a bite. I read in an article that HLAY was chill and had great food/drinks. Everything lived up to the hype - the service, the drinks, the food and the ambience. Definitely get the Grandma’s Bread & Pork Belly. If you’re up for something new, slightly indescribable that happens to be a night starter, definitely also get the Another Dimension. Can’t wait to come back here and try more of the items on the menu!
Delicious food! Drinks were a bit pricey so I didn’t try as many as I would have liked. Great selection for food and drinks. We got the zucchini bread with ricotta, the beef tartare, and the okonomiyaki. We loved it all!
Super cute spot. Lovely hostess. Decent food. Great cocktails and wine selection. Absolutely horrendous service which seemed to be directed at my table specifically. I was embarrassed to have changed our dinner reservations to this spot. Will not be back.
Great food. Really unique options with great drinks to go with it. However, very cramped and loud - table are like 6 inches apart so can be difficult to have a conversation without feeling like you're sharing with everybody.
Nice staff and lovely interior. Food though was very hit or miss. Highlights were the peppers and the lamb. The cauliflower dish was nearly inedible; my partner nor I even bothered to finish it. Tasted as if someone dumped half a bottle of cumin on it and called it a day.
Our favorite restaurant of all timd
This place lives up to the hype. Everything from the service to the ambiance is warm and welcoming. The food delights and inspires with unexpected combinations that are truly unique. Our favorite things were the tonnato sauce that comes with the shishito peppers and the whole sea bream dish. Exquisite!
Delicious food, interesting choices, friendly staff. Definitely worth trying out in LA.
Out of towners visiting
Delicious innovative food. Comprehensive wine list.
Great service, excellent food, exceptional cocktail
I eat pretty salty, but food in general was very salty and every dish had strong flavor. And it was delicious at first then was too much to eat all at the end
Pretty creative dishes.
SOOOO GREAT! Food and service are top notch here. Always pushing themselves to be better and it shows. The staff is a well oiled machine and you can tell that whomever is running the kitchen on any day is "touching every plate" to ensure perfection. Kudos to these owners for killing it here!
this restaurant was delicious and unique, I would highly recommend dinning here.
Wonderful food and ambiance like always!
We had a great evening HLAY. Cocktails were very good, with some unexpected twists. We ordered the shishito peppers, beef tartare, frog's legs, and fingerling potatoes. Everything was great but we ordered too much. Love the ambiance and the diverse crowd that was visiting on Saturday night. Service was great too. We'll be back to try other tasty dishes in the future.
Came here for brunch with my boyfriend and the food was outstanding! They were kind enough to seat us immediately even though we had arrived unexpectedly early, despite our later reservation. Our favorites were the zucchini bread and the waffle. Waiters were attentive, service was quick, and the sangrias were wonderful. Highly recommend for a creative twist on brunch foods you won't find anywhere else!
Not for brunch. $17 cocktails a bit much. You will look for a place to eat as soon as you leave.
Oh man this place far exceeded my expectations. Gabriel, Daniel & Gary took amazing care of us. We basically ordered everything on the menu + dessert and the execution on all levels did not disappoint. In fact I am making another reservation to come back as I write this review. Thank you HLAY, keep up the good work!!!
From the minute we got there, our server made us feel warm & welcomed. Wish I could remember his name! Each dish of the shared plates was better than the next. He suggested 2-3 per person, but 2 would have been enough. Don’t come here if you’re on a diet! Many courses came with bread. I highly recommend the Little Gem Salad, the Chicken Livers, the Soft Shell Crab & the bread with Shiitake butter. It gets noisier the later it gets. DEE-licious!!!
From the decor to the service and most importantly, to the actual food, I was quite impressed.
We ordered the bread with shiitake butter, the beef tartare, the yellowtail dish and the bone marrow, all of wish were delicious with my favorite dish probably being the beef tartare.
The only thing I wasn't super impressed with and hence the reason why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the cocktails. I had a fighting chicana and a doctor Jones. Both were good-though the dr. Jones was better-but they weren't amazing. Or at least not good enough to match the food.
Either way I was super pleased with my experience there and I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who's looking to indulge in a little fine dining.
An absolute exquisite experience. Great service, fun cocktails, cool environment, and excellent food. Would recommend to any and all!
Here's Looking At You is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. The food is so distinct, so original and so delicious. The desserts are innovative and unusual, but so insanely good. And I the service from top to bottom is perfect. With this restaurant less than five minutes from my home, it is hard to stay away!
Incredibly creative and quality food. Will definitely be coming back!
Amazingly delicious and decadent dishes. Was blown away.
I loved this place. High end dining experience in a low key place. Food was great, service just outstanding.
Delicious and different
Very good wait service
