Hearsay on The Strand - Galveston

Southern Fried Chicken
half chicken deconstructed
The restaurant did an excellent job making us feel safe in deciding to dine out. Tables were well spaced and servers wore masks and gloves. The waiter was excellent and attentive. The food was very good, although we missed some of our favorites from the old menu (tempura lobster, anyone?)
The reason I gave it 4 stars was for the ambiance. I would have loved to hear some Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, old/new jazz music. Instead they are playing pop, alternative music. I don't expect to hear this type of music in a "Hearsay" establishment. Customer service from every employee at the restaurant was fantastic!!
The service was excellent, that staff were friendly and helpful. Food was well prepared and tasty
Our server was great. Food was just mediocre. Disappointed in taste for the prices paid.
Our first dining here. Great ambiance, and good food. I will return.
The wait staff is excellent. They were very patient and friendly. Amd the food tastes great. Just a tad bit pricey.
We decided to return after a fun Tuesday Mardi Gras drink fest. Melissa was a blast. We thought we would surprise her and accept her offer to try the stuffed chicken. It was AMAZING! Unfortunately Melissa wasn't working but we had a chance to meet Mat. Have to say he didn't miss a beat and did not disappoint us with his level of service. To our surprise the manager actually remembered us. What a testament to your restaurant and the level of service everyone provides. Food was top notch. We'll be back to dine upstairs. Definitely recommending this place to all my friends
What a wonderful time! We were actually joined by two additional friends and the manager was very accommodating in moving us to a different table. This was our first visit and will not be our last. What really impressed me was the level of service from the first moment we walked in to the very last. Though our friends did not eat, the manager to our surprise sent over some French fires that we jokingly said she wanted. Melissa was a true Gem! Never allowing my husband's coffee to get cold and enduring our many stories. Even offering to give us a tour. We will be back to try the regular menu.
Great Brunch!!! Right on the Strand. Looking forward to coming for the dinner menu next visit to the Island.
The wait staff here are amazing. Very respectful and courteous to all who enter. We love the environment and the overall ambiance of this location! Definitely a nice addition to the strand!
Mardi Gras Galveston
This has been one of our favorite places ever since it opened. We were seated exactly where I requested. The place wasn’t crowded at all at lunch, so my fretting over a good table didn’t really matter. Service started out okay, but then she slacked off. We requested another beer and some tobacco and ended up having to flag someone down to go find our waitress. The food was still good. My husband and I ordered the deviled eggs, shrimp and calamari and a cup of gumbo. Everything was good, but not the best thing I’ve had on the menu. We’ll still be back!
This was our third visit to Hearsay and it did not start off well this evening. IG post was promoting a Mardi Gras Menu and to my surprise when I asked for the menu I was told the opposite. Generally I would just exit and never return, but my wife was insistent on speaking with a manager. As we are from Philly and wanted to enjoy some of the Mardi Culture, I wanted to try the Gumbo. The manager James was very accommodating and made sure we received the Mardi Gras Menu and most importantly my Gumbo. Though I only wanted a cup, James made sure we both received a bowl. It was amazing!! We also enjoyed the Chicken Nachos. This restaurant is one of the few restaurants in Galveston where I've received exceptional service. We also enjoyed some of the local craft beers and the Mardi Gras Bach was a perfect irony. We will definitely be back when we return to Galveston.
Andrew was very gracious, attentive, knowledgeable of the food and drink menu and uber polite. It was a lovely dining experience.
The food was great and the service was awesome. I was much more impressed with the food at this location than I am with the downtown Houston location.
was there for mardi gras, was nice to be in restaurant away from the loud drunks. Kat our waitresss was fabulous.
Server was probably new. She seemed a little nervous and was forgetful.
The food was delicious and our server Danny was the best!! He made sure everything was good, and the manager also came by to check in. Amazing place!
Very nice atmosphere, kind waiters, during Marti Gras noise from parades can be heard inside, but not to an uncomfortable level. Food was good, a little expensive.
This experience was fantastic! James, Analisa, and all the staff were very welcoming, professional, and accommodating. The food and drinks were impeccable as well. I look forward to visiting Hearsay on the Strand again whenever we go to Galveston!
Loved the food. Large enough serving for sharing. Kat, our waitress was excellent!
Great restaurant. Our waitress was new and it showed, but overall a great experience. The manager came over and apologized without us ever complaining. He was very attentive and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant.
Entree (osso bucco) was served room temp. The polenta had solidified (no longer warm) and had to cut into chunks. Chef came to table (after being sent by manager) at the end of the evening. Stated kitchen issue with steam table. Noted he didn't have instant read thermometer in his pockets. Was food temp being checked prior to leaving kitchen with a broken steam table?
Husband ordered a steak which was served without a steak knife. Waited several minutes for waitress to return & get a steak knife.
Water glasses were NEVER refilled the entire evening.
Bread pudding was served cold (straight from the refrigerator). Didn't taste nor appear to have been freshly prepared that day.
Table service was extremely slow. Waited & waited several times for waitress to return.
Shared all these issues with the restaurant manager. He sent the chef from the kitchen to speak with us, but never returned to get any followup. After reading several other online reviews on different dates, our same issues appear numerous times in their reviews.
Loved the atmosphere, food, staff, but the music was too loud for conversation and the motorcycles annoying. But you can’t do anything about that. All things considered, we will come again!
Hearsay, is the best Steakhouse on the Strand! The food is prepared fresh and always hot. The service is on point and the view inside and out are fantastic, not to mention this is the only public access balcony over the Stand for Mardi Gras, Dickens on the Strand and the Bikers Rally. Make your reservations today, you won't be disappointed!
Great restaurant week menu - wish they had these items year round! Only issue was deserts showing up to the table while we were still eating the entrees.
Great restaurant. Very good food and the waitress was excellent. The food came out very hot and tasty. Great veggie options and drinks were good as well.
Great experience! Wonderful service and food. We will be back!
I highly recommend Hearsay. We have been here for lunch really great lunch specials. First time for dinner and we hit the jackpot Steak special 'Half bottle of wine with choice of 1 of 3 steaks. Our waitress Kat was awesome she was knowledgeable and attentive. We will definitely go here again and again.
Enjoyed a great dinner with my wife. Steak, Salmon was all great! Service is out standing!!!
You wont be disappointed,
My issue was the service, which was REALLY SLOW despite more than adequate staffing for a relatively small crowd at the time I was there. It took 20 minutes before a server EVER showed up at the table to take drink orders. It was another 25 minutes after that before we got appetizers. The restaurant is beautiful and the food delicious. I don't mind a long Sunday brunch but not due to slow service!
Worst service I have received in a long time from a restaurant. Silverware was not served with some of the dishes so we had to wait for the waitress to bring it. Drinks were not refilled. We had a reservation and were seated right away, but waited over an hour for our food once seated and order was placed . Food was cold. Waited another 20 min after plates were cleared for dessert. It had obviously been sitting because the ice cream was half melted. This was during Galveston Restaurant week 2020 and we had come to celebrate a birthday. Terribly disappointed. Would not recommend!!!
This was over-priced for the quality of service and food. Manager was rude to us when we arrived and demanded to see the confirmation of my reservation on my cell phone because they we having issues with receiving reservation confirmations from open table (mistake on their end). Once we were finally seated (despite our reservation and arriving on time), the service was incredibly slow...took over 2 hours for our dinner of two (just my boyfriend and me). Took over 30 minutes alone for them to bring out the bottle of wine that we ordered.
The waiter was also totally clueless. Personally, I think he may have been drunk or high. He dropped my glass of water when putting it on the table, spilling it everywhere, and started swearing. He then pushed the spilled water and ice into the bucket that our wine bottle was sitting in which was gross. He made a comment that he “should have hung himself instead of coming into work today” - which was both alarming and disturbing. We just figured he had a bad day so we didn’t bring it up to the manager, but the table next to us did as they were having a lot of issues with him too throughout the night. The manager came over to their table and compensated them for part of their meal for all the issues they were having (including getting their orders wrong).
Would not recommend this restaurant...poor service and pricey for very average food.
They were busy and seemed overwhelmed. We had to ask for silverware and then napkins. Food was not that great. Deviled eggs were not fresh. Took us two hours to have our meals and one drink. Disappointing.
We had a horrible experience, the lack of service was so apparent. We were sat at our table in the corner of upstairs with no assigned servers to the upstairs sections. There were multiple open tables down stairs but due to participation in Galveston Restaurant Week we were sat separately. After sitting at our table for 30 minutes, we left without ordering due to a complete la k of service. Would not recommend this restaurant.
Overall really great atmosphere. Food was excellent.
When I made the reservation I was asked if it was a special occasion, I said it was it was my wife’s birthday. Why does the restaurant ask this information if they are not going to surprise us with some sort of a special dessert? I was very disappointed that no one made an effort.
Live music, great food, great cocktails. Definitely going back.
You needed a steak knife to cut into each of the 2 orders of Osso Buco and that alone should be enough said to avoid this restaurant! Scallops were raw, after dinner coffee was cold (sorry, left over from this morning!) and cognac was poured into the coffee before serving and without asking. Waitress was very nice, but so busy she didn’t really didn’t have time to provide good service. Also, even though they were sorry about everything, they didn’t discount anything and even charge for a drink they brought in error and took back!
