Hawks Provisions & Public House
Enjoyed our meal but was very noisy so difficult to talk. Food was very good but service a bit slow
I was gravely disappointed in the snobbery and pretentiousness of the gentleman at the bar and the server. Not only did I put myself through college working as a server and bartender I am in medical sales which I consider the service industry. I would never treat individuals as I was treated at Hawks.
Went there for Downtown Dining Week and were told by our waiter, oh we’re not participating. Even though they had advertised that they were. Food was average and the prices very steep.
Hawks was really excellent. Our Ciccioli, salads, and entree's were all quite delicious. My old fashioned and manhattan were both lovely and, although my wife did not love her overly sweet gin & tonic, it was eventually replaced with a different gin drink from their cocktail menu that she enjoyed. The only reason I would hesitate to go back was our uneven service. We started off ok, but it just felt like our server had 5 other jobs to do and that he wasn't able to get to us in a timely fashion. I didn't get asked if I'd like a second drink well after I had finished my first. When my wife had let him know that she did not enjoy her Gin and Tonic and that she would like to order something to replace it, he brought her a menu and then took at least 10 minutes to come back although he knew that she was just selecting a drink. The same thing happened with dessert... we had decided on the sticky toffee pudding and were informed that they were out of it. We said we needed a minute to decide on something else and would have happily ordered something had he come back in a reasonable amount of time. 15 minutes later when we finally got our waiters attention we simply asked for the bill instead of getting dessert.
Really great food and atmosphere, I would appreciate more attentive and thoughtful service.
Went for dinner and had an outstanding experience. Our server was very friendly and courteous. Really knew the menu and made great recommendations. I highly recommend this restaurant. Will definitely go back.
The food was amazing, especially the crispy Brussel sprouts. And the service was wonder, the wait staff was well informed and very helpful without seeming to hover. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I ordered the pulled-chicken salad. It was delicious with fresh romaine lettuce, the chicken well-seasoned, but not overbearing and the dressing was just right---not too much and not too little. I ordered a Bloody Mary that was a work of art, loaded with veggies, carrots, stuffed olive, green beans, pickles etc. Waiter had to bring a plate for me to unload all the veggies, so I could get to the drink. The pickled baby green beans were outstanding. I think they should include this drink on their crafted cocktail menu and call it The Carmen Miranda. Only complaint is that it could have been a lot spicier.
Consistently great food! We’ve tried a variety of menu items - always outstanding. Pricey but definitely worth it!
Wonderful dining experience. Service was more than exceptional. He was helpful and we never felt rushed. I did not have to ask for water refills once. I asked for a pasta recommendation and the spaghetti was delicious. The pork chop was beautifully done. The restaurant is on the smaller side so I’m glad we made reservations. Our table was ready right away.
Service and food were exceptional! Best lemon drop I have ever had!
Enjoyed our first dinner experience at Hawks Publuc House. Everything tasted freshly made from the amazing bread, to the Cesar salad to the lobster pasta and fried chicken. I loved the ambiance, earth tones, lower lighting, graciousness of our waiter. I would definately come back!
The service was awesome and the food was over the top delicious.
Somewhat slow service and it wasn’t that busy. We had a Hawks gift card which was refused because the server said your location and the Granite Bay location have different partners.
This was my first visit to Hawk's. I showed up and had to wait 15 minutes for my table. The staff were well trained and attentive. That said, the waiter put in the wrong order for one of us and we were surprised when they delivered a pork chop rather than the salmon. They happily and quickly fixed it (as they should...no fuss at all), but then delivered the fish not thoroughly cooked. We again sent it back and it was finally delivered properly cooked. The scallops were good, but the portion was small and certainly not worth the cost of the entree. I expected a place of this purported caliber to at least comp our drinks for our trouble and wait. Bottom line, I won't be back and I won't recommend to friends. I'm used to eating at higher end establishments, but Hawk's offers only ambiance, not quality, and certainly not for those prices! There are many other fine dining establishments that offer far better dining and service.
Consistently excellent in all respects.
First I was not happy with the table right in front of the door. But the host said there were heat vents above the table. And it turned out to be the best location. I didn’t have a chance to tell him. Our party of six had a round table and it was perfect for group conversations.
Since I follow a plant-based lifestyle, Chris (our very attentive waiter) said the chef offers a vegan special everyday...either a pasta or non-pasta dish. I chose the pasta and it was awesome. Pasta in a romesco sauce with fresh vegetables.
It was a great experience. We will be back another time. The food was delicious & appetizer & entrees were unique & flavorful!
Loved our dining experience at Hawks Public House. Good ambiance was great although a wee bit too loud for me... Will come again. Cheers
Way overpriced for the quality and the portions. Our poor server was like a robot rattling off monotone descriptions of the food and she had way too many tables and was very sick. Food was good but just not for the price, beautiful restaurant though. All in all just a little overpriced and pretentious for what it delivered.
Excellent food - prices on the menu reflect this but the food is delicious and worth the money. Service is very good - attentive but not overly so. Can be quite noisy when full.
Chris always does an excellent job taking care of us. When we walk in the door, we are always welcomed by a smiling face. The food is amazing!
The drinks were a little pricey but worth it. The food was decent however the service was slow.
Food was excellent. I dont know how to describe the wait staff. They were knowledgable about the food and drink and attentive in that they checked in often and refilled water and cleared plates frequently. And yet, it seems like they just asked questions for the sake of asking questions. They asked sparkling or still. We said sparkling. And they brought still. Later they remembered and brought sparkling. They asked if we wanted more bread. We said yes. They forgot to bring any and 10 minutes later they asked if we wanted more bread. These are not a big deal. Overall, it was a good experience, but these are the things I remember when I’m writing a review.
Great food, long meal prep times, above average service, small restaurant but still a fun upscale feel.
Excellent service and tasty, well-prepared food. The menu is diverse without being overwhelming. VERY noisy — but we got used to it. Just the acoustics of the space.
We arrived on time and we were seated immediately. Ordered drinks that arrived quickly and were very good. One in our party ordered a Rose and was very impressed how good it was. I had the scallops which were even better that I expected. My wife ordered the salmon and just loved it! The other two in our party split a burger as they weren’t that hungry and we were impressed that they split the burger for them and provided them each with their own fries. Just an amazing experience! Looking forward to our next visit.
Our server was amazing and the staff was overall very attentive. Staff was very accommodating. A+ for my first experience. The food was amazing as well.
A lovely evening, all around. The food was excellent--the pork chop almost melts in your mouth and you really can't beat fried chicken Monday! The chicken was super crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The cocktails were fabulous as well--a perfect vodka martini and a superb sazerac. Service was top notch--attentive but not at all cloying or overly formal. Great place!
While a little pricey, the food was very good. The service was very proficient. Upon telling the waiter that we had theater tickets, they made sure that the next course was promptly delivered. This helped offset the 20 minute wait despite our reservation.
My First time there, No problem parking, Great service, everything we had was very good.
I definitely will be back.
Enjoyable evening with friends at our favorite dining location. Menu, wine list, service and ambiance was delightful. Thank you for being our go-to neighborhood restaurant.
Dinner was great. Desert was great. Skip the coffe -weak. The espresso i ordered tasted like good strong coffee, but not espresso. The coffee my wife ordered - she couldnt finish it.
Good food. Fun setting. Nice bar.
Food and drink both great. Nice vibe
We go often, but this past visit was exceptional. The food was special, and the service better. Very enjoyable.
We had a reservation at 6:45 pm. We didn’t get our entrees until after 8pm and this was only after talking with two wait staff and the operations manager to see what the problem was. Our waitress seemed angry that we commented and asked about the slowness of the food. The operations manager was originally combative, but later apologized and gave us a significant discount on our bill, which was appreciated.
Hawks was one of our favorite restaurants in Sac but we question whether we could recommend it to others now...???... We will give it another try - I’m hoping it was just an off night.
We have been to Hawks a few months back and decided to try it for my husbands birthday, we were a very disappointed. The food was average for the price. The hosts never smiled, seemed like she was having a bad day. We were there for over 2hrs and never saw her smile the whole time. I did not realize you need to ask for a booth during reservations and was not very happy with the table right at the entrance to the restaurant, it was very distracting, when we were trying to have a quite evening. The only good thing about our evening was the drinks. they were excellent.
I want to like this restaurant more because the food is solid and the setting quite nice. But it manages to get in its own way. The waiter couldn’t remember the only special of the day. Our shared appetizer was forgotten —quickly rescued by the alert hostess. This is an expensive restaurant by Sacramento standards, but the overall experience—when compared with Allora or Waterboy or Biba—falls short.
One of my favorite restaurants. I recommend I t for any occasion.
Good California menu of healthy, fresh food. Can be noisy at lunchtime.
