Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant is the second restaurant from fine dining chef Curtis Stone (of Maude) and the first he’s opened with his brother Luke Stone. Gwen is both a European-style, chef-driven butcher shop and a restaurant that is redefining dining in LA, with a menu that calls on fire-based cooking techniques. Whether you’re picking up house-made charcuterie, prime and rare breed meats from the retail store, enjoying a feast in the dining room or relaxing with a bite and cocktail at the bar, Gwen delivers the highest standards of quality, taste and service.

On Wednesdays-Sundays, we offer Chef's Carte Blanche 5-course tasting menu for $140 per person (limited quantities available). Let’s start from the beginning. We had reservations at 7:15 and we were not seated till 7:50. The manager came to apologize but that was it. It’s interesting for a restaurant to have a 15 minute period where if you arrive later than 15 minutes, than you lose your spot, but they can make you wait double that. When we were seated, the waiter who saw us was cold and kind of didn’t care to help us or be there. The wine attendant was also a bit off. Regardless, we tried to make the best of the evening. We ordered oysters, fried artichokes, duck fat potatoes, the 36 oz rib eye and asparagus. The asparagus never even arrived and by the time the waiter approached us again, we were practically done with the steak. Overall, I wouldn’t go back. Food was mediocre but if you have to wait for so long to be seated and aren’t even acknowledged after the fact, than that speaks volumes.

The food was incredible… no more to be said there. I absolutely loved the service style. I think a lot of high end establishments try really hard to make you feel special. You have a water person, and drink person, just a feeling of being too much. Not at Gwen.. the service is personable, relaxed, just the right amount of attention, they don’t over do it. Can’t wait to come back!

Sat at the chef’s counter and thoroughly enjoyed it! The staff was fabulous - loved our server Nick. The food was so amazing! I would highly recommend Gwen, we will be back!

Amazing experience sitting at the bar watching the chefs prepare the meals ahead. We loved the experience and would highly recommend.

The food was amazing and we’re still thinking about that rib eye! Unfortunately the service was very slow and underwhelming. Our server wasn’t very knowledgeable when it came to what some of the dishes were and it was nearly impossible to get a drink or find the sommelier. Maybe don’t offer the sommelier recommendation if the sommelier isn’t available or knowledgeable. The experience was not worth the price.

Waiter hardly came by - we had to flag him down many times. Dinner took 3.5 hours because of it. Food was very expensive for what we got. Pasta was the highlight!

One of the most exceptional meals we’ve had in LA. The food was outstanding and the waitstaff and sommelier were tremendous!

Leider wurden unsere Erwartungen an ein Sternelokal nicht ganz erfüllt. Das Essen war sehr gut, aber nicht „outstanding“. Die angebotenen Weine sind dem Preisniveau nicht angemessen. Der Service ist ausgesprochen freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Great meal. Had the tasting menu. The tasting menu is meant to be a ‘surprise’ taking into account allergies so there’s no menu but they were happy to share what the protein was. I didn’t want to come here and not have some aged beef as part of dinner! Tasting and wine pair were both great food and a great value too all things considered. I might not choose the chefs counter next time. I do prefer a high top but it’s in the back corner of the restaurant in the prep area and adjacent to back kitchen hallway. Will definitely come back because the service is also perfect - attentive but informal.
