Wonderful place. Good food. Great atmosphere.
Most of us ordered the lobster 🦞 eggs benedict on a popover. All great! The portions are big so good for leftovers! If you like maple 🥓 bacon than you need to get some. Delish!
Visited on Sunday for brunch, ate inside, very airy, light restaurant. Our group had different dishes, and loved them all. Try their lavender lemonade, it is the most beautiful served. The Don't be Done cocktail was so delicious, if u love pineapple, gotta Try! We could not of had better service. Everyone was outstanding. Note, the menu at La Jolla, where we ate is different from Hillcrest.
It was all good and serving sizes are just right. Out table, where we sat, was attached to a wall and the paint was chipped at the connection to the wall. It caught me off guard because the restaurant is nice.
The beignets are FANTASTIC! I have had them at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans and these are on the same level if not better.
Was happy they hadn’t close due to the CoVid19 measures.
Support the young employees and enjoy.
We had a reservation and were seated within 5 minutes of it. A server came over within 10 minutes and took a drink order. She left 4 empty water glasses for 7 people on the table. Then we waited 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive and we still had to ask for water and more glasses. The server came back with water and glasses and took our food order. Then we waited another 1/2 hour for food. Those of us with coffee were never offered a second cup. A party of six that was seated an hour after us got their food the same time our meals arrived. Two of our 7 dishes were cold. We were compensated for one of the cold meals which was returned.
Portions are large, consider sharing. Service was excellent and food delicious. Noise level very high, so consider if have hearing issues.
The service was decent. The food was not. One of the worst turkey burgers I have ever had. Overcooked and had a nasty topping on it that was thick and awful. When we told them it was bad they offered us one coupon for a free donut....nothing off that horrible order. I will not be dining here again.
the beignets are delicious!!!
I'm 72 and have eaten a lot of pancakes. GM's are standouts. My wife thinks they whip the egg whites before putting them in the batter. I think it's alchemy. Either way--best ever. Judy's omelet was good, too, with an ingenious use of fingerling potatoes. Both were presented beautifully by well trained and smart staff. Plenty of great free parking nearby. Value measure is middling only because the package is aggressively priced so you're probably going to indulge for special occasions and I noticed several large tables of happy people.
Good and service was great as always.
Great service and great food. Recommend making a reservation.
Casual type dinner with limited but quality food options. Service was outstanding.
Went in on a rainy Saturay in Feb & chose to sit at the bar since there was plenty of seating. Service was great, with the bar staff checking in on us and plenty of banter. The maple bacon donuts and fried chicken is 100% worth the hype.
Birthday every real nice
Our server, Missy, was wonderful. Give her a raise!!!
The service was slow and the food was not hot when it finally arrived. I needed to help the server open the wine. Needless to say she was not trained how to pour wine and could use more server training. She was very nice.
Love the ambiance and the food was great. Service was horrible. We sat down immediately because I made reservations on opentable however after being handed the menu, we sat at our table for at least 15+ minutes and were ready to walk out especially since other tables that sat after us were being serviced. From my experience, someone should have maybe asked if we wanted anything to drink within those 15 mins of sitting there but instead of initially leaving, I stopped one of the waitresses to see if we could get some service. She did eventually help us but she said they didn't anticipate being as busy as they were so then she took our order. I looked around and there were maybe 10/100 tables taken. Is that considered busy? I've never been in the food industry so I am legitimately asking? I saw other waitors and waitresses so I don't even think it was a staffing issue. After ordering we did get our food in a timely manner and it was delicious. I had ordered coffee and asked the waitor for more creamer. He came back with 2 percent milk because he said and I quote"I can't find the creamer. " That's unacceptable. Is this not a brunch restaurant? If you couldn't find it, wouldn't you think to ask someone else. I highly doubt you were out of creamer especially at 9:30am when majority of people had ordered coffee as I noticed. Lastly and strike 3, the waitress asked us if we wanted and I quote, "coffee to go" She literally brings an empty coffee cup and I was instantly confused. Is she suggesting I take my almost empty cold coffee home? As my friend and I walked out, we laughed because we didn't know the comedy show was included with our brunch. I will probably take my business else where.
With all of the glowing reviews I'd read, perhaps my expectations were particularly high. We were seated quickly by a very friendly hostess, but then took a noticeably long time for our waitperson to arrive - and the venue was not crowded. White cheddar biscuits... nearly inedible. These were "drop biscuits" (as in not fluffy, flaky biscuits). Very dense and dry and dull, except for an odd, sharp taste - yes, from the white cheddar, I get it - but overall just not good. The whipped maple butter we thought might soften the experience was not whipped. It arrived in a tiny stainless container, hard as a rock and a strange color... we wondered if it had been sitting for a while, uncovered, in an overcold refrigerator. Chicken & avocado toast... well, the fresh fruit was very good. The two pieces of flattened chicken lying next to the toast had a bit of salt and heat and were not completely dry. The avocado [bread] toast was true to description, except that the bread was barely, if at all, toasted. Continuing with "true to description," on the bread was a thin layer of smashed avocado with a slight hint of basil and probably some salt mixed in there somewhere - with a few pieces of thinly sliced lettuce on top of the avocado to add, I suppose, a bit different shade of green for eye appeal. Awful? No. But for our first restaurant stop to start our San Diego visit, we left feeling a bit blank. Oh, and the "service dog," (yeah, right) slobbering on the seat of the chair at the table right next to us was, well, just slobbery.
Friends visiting from Washington DC and we recommend Great Maple poor decision. 11:15am reservation, asked for a booth and they put us next to a family with out of control kids.
Ordered Two Eggs , Vegaterian Scramble, Pancakes, and French Toast, and we asked for separate checks. Guess what only three items showed up—eggs and scramble were lukewarm, French toast was burnt and we had to ask twice for the pancakes.
The bill came and it was not separate.
Excellent service, and decent food. Only complaint is a (almost literally) small one. The table for two is too small. We had breakfast, each with one side, with coffees and a glass of mimosa. Every square inch of the table was full, and so crowded that we had to be VERY careful lifting the wine glasses and putting them back down, in case we tipped them over.
The food and service are EXCELLENT. It is a bit pricey, but no more pricier than the other food establishments in the area. The patio is a great and much more comfortable than inside, but it does tend to get loud once it starts to fill up. Great Maple is VERY popular on the weekends and fills up quick, so reservations are highly recommended if you don't want to wait.
This is one of my favorite restaurants! The bacon, maple donuts are a MUST!
The food took a little longer than I would have liked to get to the table, but the wait staff were wonderful.
Love, love, love their food but the service always seems to be a bit slow. It took about 15 minutes after we ordered before our coffees arrived.
We want to like GM, we've been several times. There always seems to be an issue, random circumstances tend to make our experiences less than ideal. Last night it was the extended wait on each item ordered. Drinks took forever to arrive. Appetizer...so long to arrive. The restaurant was barely 25% occupied, seems they are losing their appeal.
Had brunch with friends, our server was great, the food as always was superb and we will be back
Our server, wish I remembered her name, 2 bottles of champagne... was awesome! Food was delish, ambiance lovely, prices were pricey.
Great! Accommodating and great service
Huge portions of heavy comfort goods. Good flavors.
Came here with family to celebrate my birthday day. Everything was great, this is one of my favorite places to eat. I work in the mall and this is always the place I recommend when asked "what's good to eat here?"
I made a reservation on open table for sat jan 25 to celebrate my birthday and try out restaurant week. It was a party of 4, 3 adults 1 baby. I am very disappointed with our experience. We arrived 15 minutes early and I advised the hostess it was my birthday and that I had noted that also on the reservation. We were offered a seat out in the patio but it was too cold for us even with the heat lamps. So they seated us at a location inside the restaurant in a booth where we were told they couldnt accommodate a high chair for my 18 month old.
We ordered and were waiting for our food for over 45 minutes, we were told that the chilaquiles which are on the special menu were holding our order up. So they gave us complimentary biscuits to settle and wait.
Once we finally ate I was given the bill thinking maybe they would discount something due to the long wait but they didn't.
I paid, told our waiter, again told him it was my birthday and nothing. I was told you give ice cream or some treat? I was hoping something to share with my son and parents since it was a special occasion and maybe that would soothe the long wait we experienced.
Awesome experience from reception to meal. Definitely continues to be a favorite of mine.
The menu is limited. The food is overpriced. I had a Kale Brie salad with 3 little pieces for $15! My guest had a Caesar salad with pieces of chicken for $18. Nothing out of the ordinary. I will not return.
I would you recommend Great Maple La Jolla - UTC to a friend
