I have been coming for years, and came this weekend to celebrate a special occasion with my daughter. The food was less than mediocre- service poor. Got pasta, no offer of Parmesan - when the bread came, it was very undercooked and the waitress almost threw the balsamic on the table splashing it, and made no effort to clean the area. Very overpriced for food that is not special in any way. I will not be back.
We had a brutal night at Grazie and the direct server was the only one that seemed to care. Our group of eight was ushered into a far back dining room and was seated alone in the room with a group of sixteen 16-year old girls having a rowdy Sweet 16 birthday party. When our person checking our group in asked the hostess to move, the hostess barked back "we warned you this was a possibility" (they most certainly had NOT.) As it turns out, they had warned another group of 10 in advance, but when that group wanted to move, them moved them and sat our unwitting group in the room of the damned... Management had only assigned one single waitress to the whole room, so by the time she made 4 separate trips to the kitchen for the bday party drinks and 4 more for entrees, it was 25 minutes until we were served water, delivered our wine and drinks ("sorry - new bartender") and 10 more to tend to the bday until our orders were taken. The Sweet 16 girls were left unattended by staff, interestingly, with their duffles in the room that contains all the restaurant's wine in a wall rack - a fact they used to great effect for pictures. When we spoke with the manager (we were deliberately polite and calm, so as not to embarrass our other 6 diners), she too was unsympathetic and finally realized that WE weren't the party of 10. Her only comment upon the realization was "Well, I'm don't like that the hostess took that tone with you." ???!!!! No apology for the seating in a circus, no apology for giving our table away to the party that had been forewarned - just no apology whatsoever. And no offer to buy a bottle of our wine or provide dessert on the house for the mess. Absolutely nothing from their end. Clearly a very weak manager and one who doesn't view customers are important in any way. Our server said that she believed the owner also in the house, but no appearance. He/she must be setting the example from the top regarding care for their customers' experience.
The prices were outrageous for the quality of food .
Incredibly disappointing all the way through. Waiter was confused most of the night and missed simple requests for water, ...silverware. While the appetizers were Olive Garden level decent, the main meals were flavorless, and poorly presented and designed. Price to value was just bad.
We visited Grazie! while in Bloomington visiting our daughter. The dining room was upscale and comfortable. The server was engaging and efficient. The wine list offered great choices. Our server suggested a mushroom tortellini which was fabulous. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals (filet, chicken parm, chicken and tortellini). We finished off by sharing a large cannoli. I would absolutely recommend and return.
Mom's weekend - great table for a large group! Food was delicious and great prices!
Other than no hostess available and having to track down the bartender to seat us, it was great. Bartender gentlemen was very customer service focused.
Our water gave us very poor service. Our water pitcher and our glasses were empty before he came back to give us another one. Had to ask for another basket of bread after ours was empty. Came to attend us about 1 time besides bringing our food and check.
Great food, great waitress. Never got our bread :(
Upstairs was nice
Went here for my 21st birthday dinner, was not disappointed. Service and atmosphere were good, food and drinks did not disappoint. Overall a good restaurant.
Have been to Grazie many, many times over the years since we have season tickets at IU. Decided to go on Valentines dinner prior to the game and for our daughters birthday. We made reservations several weeks ago and selected it since we've never had major issues and Wednesday nights are their half price wine dinners. We were greeted by the hostess who acknowledged our reservation who then proceeded to walk us past numerous empty tables to some back storage type room with stacked wine boxes, table settings and not cleared tables as well. Our reservation was for 6:30. they then gave us a "special" menu. which means item costs were jacked up to gouge the diners and then our poor server had to tell us, along with other guests that the owner said no half price wines. when we received our food two of the entrees had raw red bell peppers in them. It definitely should have been sauteed slightly to soften and warm them. then there was the table next to us of college students who were aghast at the prices for dinner. The girl said that they should just leave because it was way too expensive and we totally agreed. we will definitely reconsider where we dine in the future when we go back down to Bloomington
Ordered a dry martini. Was delivered to the table in a cocktail tumbler with ice. Explanation was the bartender was new and didn’t know how to make martini.
Main dish’s good to average.
Dessert Creme brûlée very thin and underlying custard runny, undercooked
We heard the server say that all open table reservations were being seated in the same area for Valentines day. We got there at 5:30, and despite most of the restaurant being empty we were seated (2 of us) at an 8 top in the back (storage?) room next to another open table couple with a crying baby. Nothing against them... they also felt they would have been better off with a booth not in a wide open room. Poor planning, and obviously open table reservations in this case not s good call. As to the food, our calamari app was soggy and obviously prepared well in advance. Less than 5 minutes after that our salads arrived, and I'M NOT KIDDING 1 minute later our meals came out. Our server apologised, saying they were instructed to put everything in at once. She was very nice, but clearly we were being rushed to make room for more tables later. Good meal, but cold by the time we got to it and between that and sitting at an 8 top in the wine storage room it killed the mood. I'll go elsewhere for my next special occasion.
Very nice and fancy. Perfect for a date night with your loved one. Great food for the price!
This was an early Valentine dinner for us, and as always, we were not disappointed at all! Magnifico!
The room in which we ate was wonderful as was the cooperation of the staff. The 2 soups I knew about were too spicy. My Caesar salad was delicious, my husband's sausage and pepper average, and others at my table felt their food was average. I can't speak for the other table.
Overall, the food was pretty average to mediocre for the price by our standards.
Food and service was great, however it was obnoxiously loud when we expected a bit more intimate & quiet evening.
It was a solid experience overall with great food and service.
Super good! Loved the bread and salad and our meal was delicious as well
Have been many times when we come into town to visit son. We choose it for the good food and gluten free options. Is it possible there is a new cook? Food was very disappointing , mushy lasagna - had to send it back, meatballs were not the same , hard.
Would never go back.
I can’t believe how poor our experience was. The only redeeming part of the meal was that we were fortunate enough to dine there on a Wednesday night when wines are half price.
The eggplant parmigiana was soggy and lacked flavor. Although the meatballs were average, there was a pool of water surrounding the pasta on the plate.
Very disappointing in all aspects
Wife’s meal had an excessive amount of pesto lumped on top of the pasta.
Server was not readily available to request another glass of wine.
We had a great waitress but the kitchen was very slow it was a 45 min wait for out food. My entree was very good but my wife's bland. I will try the restaurant again and hopefully have a better experience
Food was fantastic - great place for dinner or drinks and appetizers. If we are ever back in Bloomington, we would certainly eat there again!
Difficult to book a private party, left multiple messages and emails for the owner, never heard back.
Overall, wonderful service and food was great.
I was more impressed when I looked at the menu online than my actual dining experience. The food was good...although my order was wrong. But it was not as impressive as I felt the menu made it out to be.
I never write reviews, but we were so happy with our experience, I am happy to share. Went there before an IU game with my wife and two young kids. The server was great and food was excellent. They took great care of my son with food allergies. Since we were able to book a reservation on Opentable, it took all the stress out of making dinner plans before an IU basketball game. We were very, very happy with this restaurant experience.
I reserved a table for Dec. 28th for my work team Christmas lunch and the reservation was confirmed. When we arrived, the door was locked and a small sign on the door read "closed". I had also called and the voicemail message did not mention anything about being closed. Very poor customer service.
I always enjoyed dining here in the past but had been awhile since we ate here. In past it had the feeling of a fine dining atmosphere but now lightening is very bright and it felt more like a fast food establishment. Unfortunately there was food on the floor right by our table. Service was below average. Ordered a bottle of wine that was featured on the table and when we ordered 2nd bottle was told they didn’t have any that were chilled. ???? I ask can you not put a bottle on ice. Reluctantly waitress agreed to do that. Food was delicious from appetizers, salad, soup, main course, it was just as I remembered it. This was a restaurant we relied on for special occasions or friends get together in the past, hoping it was just a off night for them but even so the atmosphere is not the same.
I've eaten a lot at Grazie during my son's college years. This was a dinner before a show meal. The waitress knew that we had a time schedule; I ordered the salmon; my son the chicken piccata with some specific withholds. Turns out someone else took his meal and we had to wait a bit longer. None of that would have been a problem except that when our meals arrived, his was very good and mine was stone cold. Apparently, no one thought about the effect the wait would have on my dinner. Unfortunately, we are in a rush and complaining - or requesting a "hot" meal took time we didn't have. The waitress was wonderful and I know that Grazie tries but somehow little things keep dropping through the cracks. Oh, well. The Concert (Straight No Chaser) was great and the evening a success.
The food was excellent - we had the antipasto platter as an appetizer and it was so good! And the peach sangria was delicious! Great service too - looking forward to coming back.
Excellent meal and friendly service! Menu was very interesting and varied with great choices.
I’ve been to Grazie several times and the food is consistently good, and sometimes even great. I’d stick with the pasta dishes as those are very good. One person in our party ordered a steak that was just mediocre and while we didn’t order a fish entree, the strong odor of fish was hard to miss (and not appetizing). Our biggest complaint would be that while the cocktails are very well done, they clearly don’t have enough bartenders to handle a Saturday night crowd. We ordered drinks, waited 10 minutes to order our meals and still didn’t have our first drinks by the time the salads arrived. We ordered a second round as soon as our entrees arrived and were completely finished eating before they ever arrived.
I will certainly go back because I know that there are sometimes staffing issues everywhere, but they definitely need to work on that portion of their service.
It was not quite what I expected from looking at the internet site--it seemed a bit more upscale online. I was a bit disappointed in the ambiance -- plain wooden booth--the staff was young, not overly friendly, and it took awhile to get our food/bill. We were late for the Nutcracker because of it. The wine I ordered was not near even a half glass. The food was just okay, though it did taste rather authentic from some of what I had experienced in Italy. I enjoyed talking to our waiter David, and I think he just got really busy.
Nice meal prior to going to IU basketball game. Had group of 4 buddies. One had a scooter after having ankle surgery and table was a bit tight as was finding a place for his scooter while we ate but they tried to accommodate the best they could.
My wife and I celebrated her birthday here. She loves Italian food, so we decided to try this place out. We absolutely loved it. Great food and wine. Our server was attentive. Will definitely go back
The Bar is nice and we had a great bartender, but the Service was just OK, very slow, and then the food was Marginal at best, so much promise with the remodel, if they get it together it would be a place i will go too again.
I don't go to a relatively expensive Italian restaurant expecting mediocre food and obnoxious, loud crowds and music. I knew that it was a football weekend and expected it to be busy, but the atmosphere and food were more like a pub than a place to have a celebration dinner. If that's what they're going for, fine - put a burger on the menu. If not, they need to up their game. Food and service definitely not worth the prices.
Excellent service and great food! Server was very attentive. Four people with four different entrees and every
