Gotham is only a few blocks from I-35 and has lots of free parking.
Yes, you should go. The fresh pasta was on point. Loved the vibe but wondering why more people were not there. Good for us! We got a table for 6 when we wanted. The cheese board was excellent quality but could have been a little more robust. The homemade pastrami was amazing! So to sum up, thumbs up!
I love Cafe Malta, so I was really excited to try Gotham. The menu was the right size with a great variety. My only criticism is that they had one (very attentive) server working the whole floor: greeting, seating, serving, etc. , so the service was a little slow. Other than that, no complaints. Can't wait to go back!
We had the mussels, the Macdougal salad, and the Pastrami Pappardelle. The mussels didn't come with any bread to sop up the tasty broth. The Macdougal salad was just a few leaves of butter lettuce with avo, crispy chickpeas, and a weak viniagrette; not nearly as exciting as it seemed reading the menu. The papparedelle was really good. Overall, the food is solid but not outstanding, and the service was really excellent.
The service was good for only one bartender and one server for a restaurant of under 30 people. The food took extremely long and came out over cooked. The chicken was black and burnt. I was surprised they even brought it out and thought it was presentable. This isn't an experience I wish to repeat especially on our last night in Austin.
Gotham is a gem! The food was delicious and the ambiance was great! The waiter knew it was my birthday and made sure to make me feel special for the dinner! I think this is a restaurant that people have not heard much about yet and I’m selfishly sad for the time when they take off and it becomes difficult to get a table haha
Excellent entrees. Meat was high quality. Nice coffee and dessert too. Only slight letdown was the calamari appetizer.
The food is yummy. We had a party of six and every person loved what they got. It was a good sized portion for a fair price. The hanger steak was perfect medium rare, the drum fish had a lot of different flavors that let the fish shine and the ratatouille was a big hit. They cooked each vegetable separately in different spices and my vegetarian friend said it was one of the best dishes she has ever had. The night started out with us being the only table until 7 and then it was almost full. That slowed down the service where trying to close out became a challenge. The only draw back is they will only run 4 credit cards. I have never heard of that and it could have been a problem if we didn't have two people who had enough cash to pay their bill. One suggestion is to tell bigger parties ahead of time where there is time to get some cash. Otherwise it was a wonderful experience and well worth checking out.
I came for dinner at Gotham with a large party. The food was great and the staff really went out of their way to make our experience wonderful. Everyone had a nice time and enjoyed their food.
First of all the food was delicious. I would have given 5 stars, but the service was quite slow. We had a table of 11, but the place was practically empty, with only 2 other small parties present. Not busy for a Thursday evening. It took nearly an hour to get our food served. Our out of town guests were starving yet patient, and they did rave about their lamb fettuccine. I had the mussels and spinach salad, but excellently prepared. Great food, just have to wait for it.
Wonderful food that satisfied native Austinites and New Yorkers alike. Jared treated our large party like royalty.
Nice bistro feel and very good service. Food was good though I don't know what differentiates them from the myriad other places of equal food/service quality. Glad I went but not sure, with so many options out there, I would go again. Nonetheless, solid restaurant and recommend a visit.
Waitstaff were friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is limited but everything is going to be perfectly crafted. Portions are just the right size so a couple can share an appetizer, have an entree, and a dessert leaving you perfectly satisfied. Prices were very reasonable and parking was no problem.
Quaint and cozy dining area with a menu that makes it hard to decide what to choose - everything sounded delicious! My homemade pasta was noticeably homemade, in a good way, the flavors were full but not overwhelming which can be said for the service too, and the portions were the perfect size to be satisfied and not gorged. We will be returning!
Only minus was the noise level. The room could stand for some under table carpeting or other sound absorbing buffers
Great, creative drinks and food and service was amazing. We will be back and will spread the word about this place!
Unfortunately our server was grouchy. He made the meal and the experience unpleasant.
Hi there, this is Nick, owner of Gotham. I think I can guess who your server was, because we got several other complaints about him this past week. I apologize for the experience you had, and I want you to know that server has been fired. I hope you'll give us another try, and next time the service will be up to the same level as the rest of the experience. Again, my apologies. Cheers, Nick
Great food and fab service !
Perfect portion sizes, rich flavors, attentive service. We shared an appetizer, each had a salad and each had an entree. We’ll be back!
The previous reviews seem ridiculous in light of our experience. That the restaurant was practically empty from 7 pm to 8:30 pm on a Saturday night says it all. Is now on our "do not return, do not recommend" list.
Food is always fantastic and service is on point! Truly want this place to succeed!! We are here about once a week and the mussels are always ordered! And if you don’t get the Mac and cheese, you are truly missing out!
Great ambiance and wonderful food! The staff was great.
Quaint restaurant, amazing flavlrs
I was excited to find this new spot in East Austin with free parking and an interesting menu. Unfortunately, it just didn't meet our expectations. We ordered the calamari to start. There was a mishap with the delivery and the marinara sauce was dropped and landed all down my leg and into my shoe. The server was very apologetic and helped to clean up the mess, and luckily I had on dark pants or it could have been a real disaster as we were headed to a show after dinner. So not off to a great start, and sadly the calamari proved to be just ok. It was very salty and was cut into such small pieces, I wondered if any calamari was actually inside the crispy breading. My husband had the wedge salad which he enjoyed, however since the kitchen was unwilling to accommodate a change in sides for his entree, he did not order an entree. I ordered the Arsita which was good, but not great. I really wanted to love Gotham, but it was definitely a miss. As an "apology" for the marinara incident, we were given a "coupon" for a free appetizer on our next visit. Had they offered to comp the calamari on this visit, I might have been persuaded to give them one more try, but I doubt we will return to use our coupon.
Looks like a tavern in New York. Great brunch — the shakshuka was outstanding!
There was a large party so service was slow, but we were given a discount because of this. Overall food was excellent.
Great spot for a nice Sunday brunch and great customer service! Will definitely be back!
LOVED Gotham! One thing I hate about Austin is trying to eat but not being able to find a parking garage close by. Gotham has a huge parking lot. The food was excellent. We were a group of 4 and everyone enjoyed everything they ordered and we ate every bite. There was not a wait. Try this wonderful restaurant. You will be so glad you did!
Jared is the best!
We enjoyed brunch on the patio. They have good drink specials, delicious food and Fabulous service!
The steak in the steak frites was so tender, you barely need a knife. If you try one thing, it NEEDS to be the pastrami pappardelle!
Mussels and cheese board were good. Steak frites was okay except shoestring fries were limp and not at all crispy, which kind of ruins the dish. Veggie casserole was uninspired and disappointing. Service was pleasant but slow. Inside the air conditioning was positively Arctic, which I found unbearable even in jeans and a sweatshirt, and it was too noisy inside to really talk to anyone. Better to sit outside if the weather allows it.
Great place, good food and all around awesome restaurant. Will definitely return. Waiter was nice. Food was tasty.
Very quaint, small, upscale deli in a great location. Food was excellent, price very reasonable, and excellent service. Casual setting, limited menu and moderate portions which keep quality high and prices in check. Just a great vibe. Will definitely go back.
Reservation for 530 but our show let out earlier than expected and we arrived just after 5. It was a very leisurely dinner (2 hours), which half of our party (party of 8) did not mind, the other half were over it. The special is available after 630, our apps came out at varying intervals, half table received entrees but steak frites (3) came out 5 minutes after others were placed. They comped our desserts so they knew they were “off”.
Drink a Masshole. Don’t miss the mac n cheese.
We will give them another try if we are in area but won’t seek them out.
Loved our brunch at Gotham! We had out-of-town guests and chose to try Gotham for brunch before we took them to the airport. Very nice service, and the food was great. I love the decor. We will plan to comeback sometime for dinner. And....they have a parking lot!
We went for brunch. Food was excellent! But hire another waitress/waitor! The girl was doing a fantastic job but she was the only one. Definitely recommend!
First time eating there and it was a complete miss. I would not recommend. Food was overpriced and not good for Austin standards. Cocktails were the best thing about our meal which doesn't say much. I hope they can turn their food around as they have a great location but ambiance isn't much to speak of either.
We went in with pretty high expectations given the reviews but were disappointed to say the least. The restaurant itself was great but the food not so much. We ordered the bruschetta (4/5), the steak frites (3/5), and the pork (1/5). EVERYTHING was over salted by a long shot, our mouthes literally hurt after dinner from the amount of salt. The pork was undercooked, extremely fatty, and just not what we expected. The plate when back to the kitchen with 80% of the food still on the plate and they did not ask if everything was alright with the dish after clearing the nearly full plate. Overall, I hope this was a fluke but I dont think we will be heading back anytime soon, if ever. That said, it would be a great place for happy hour and apps.
Wonderful everything except screaming child and pack of screaming millennialS. Need sound dampening badly.
Food and service are excellent!
It's a cute bistro. We sat outside, which I felt was a bit sparse in seating - they could have easily added 2-3 more tables outside on their small patio and on the lawn. Also, the lawn looked like it hadn't been mowed for a few weeks so I hope they keep up with that because it could be a really nice go-to spot for a lot of people in that area. The homemade pasta was very good and everything was reasonably priced. Inside was a bit too bright so it'd be nice if they dimmed the lights a little bit for the evening; otherwise, I'd recommend Gotham for both small and large groups. I hope they make it into an event space too! Lots of opportunity.
