We sat in the section with diner like tables. At online reservation, there was no option to choose which dining room we reserved. The other room has a larger menu. We specifically dined for the pork cutlet, and we’re relieved that it was on the menu in our dining room. Once that confusion was resolved, the dining experience was lovely. The service and meals (the house special pork cutlet, and the tempura large wild shrimp) were excellent, tasty, delicate and moist. The unlimited sides of soup, rice, tartar were great. Service was attentive and friendly. The dining room was simple, casual and small. I don’t know what the other dining room was like as they aren’t connected, but the other one has a larger menu.

The $44 Pork Katsu plate is a rip off!! Half is fat and it wasn’t anything special. You can find so many better places in Honolulu.

I think this restaurant is way overhyped. The katsu was super fatty. And it was not like a nice marbling type of fatty, it was literally chunks of fat. The katsu sauce was awful. The salad dressings were meh too. I would not come back here.

The food here was good. We didn’t get to order their specialty (#1) as they ran out (limited to 25 set per night). I recommend ordering their (#2). We also ordered the fried shrimp and fried oysters which were excellent.

We ordered three dishes Specialty Kurobuta Pork Loin Katsu Set, Pork Tenderloin Katsu Curry Set (3.5oz), and Shrimp Katsu Set. I think the Kurobuta Prok Loin's ends were too fatty, but the middle was ok. My son like to Katsu Curry set. When we made the reservation via the open table, we thought it was for Ginza Bairin Tonkatsu and Yshoku Bistro. However, it was not. I heard from many people that it looks like for both restaurants since that's how it reads when you make the reservations but when you get there, it was not. We really wanted to try the Yoshoku Bistro menu but we were not able too. I guess we need to call the restaurant instead of using Open Table for the next reservation.

I was hoping to like this place more than I did. Though the pork in my dish was cooked beautifully, the selections on the menu are extremely limited and not very tailored to my husband’s more Western tastes. The place is tiny and overcrowded, with screaming toddlers and beeping computer games adding to the din. We won’t be back.

Bit confusing as to where we made the reservation for as the Tonkatsu room and Yoshoku bistro are two separate restaurants, although right next to each other. I had to ask the staff which one I made the reservation for, she told me it was for the tonkatsu room. Otherwise, food was amazing and that’s what really matters. Will definitely be back on our next trip to Hawaii!

I am not sure what the fuss about the food is all about.?.? I have had better in quality of the pork, batter, and oiliness... However, the curry was excellent! I would highly recommend getting curry tonkatsu. It was very bad first bite as it was nothing but fat which I was forced to spit out into a napkin. The rest of the tonkatsu was not tenderized (flattened) so it had meaty soft texture rather than more firmer texture as tonkatsu should be IMO. The sizes of 3 piece tiger prawns were huge but lacked that large prawn pop as you bite into it and the flavor of that unique prawn flavor and the sweetness was totally lacking. The crab croquettes was also big disappointment as we only ate 2/3 and there were 4 of us....

While food and service were great, I cannot give 5 stars because we made a reservation thinking we would get to have Yoshoku. There is no such a notice on Open Table. We found out about it when we arrived at the restaurant. And one of us was not supposed to have deep fried food by doctors instruction. If we knew Yoshoku was not available we would’ve gone somewhere else.

It’s hard to get a seat here but I see why! Luckily we were able to book on our last day in Hawaii! The food is as great as it looks. It’s so tasty and the tonkatsu sauce is extra gingery which makes it even tastier! The pork is tender and crunchy outside. The unlimited coleslaw is good too. I loved it so much. Also had the tiger shrimp tempura. It’s a little on the expensive side but it’s really good. The dipping sauce it comes with which I’ll describe as somewhat like an egg salad matches perfectly. Please open a spot in Toronto!

This was our second time at GBHT. The food was delicious and the serving portion was generous. The only non-positive experience of the dinner was the time it took for our food to be served - about 30 minutes. Otherwise, will return to GBHT for the great food. Make a reservation!

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The food is exquisite, especially the premium Kurobuta pork. Plus they even offered me a second serving of salad and miso free of charge which has never ever happened to me in my hometown in Los Angeles. The service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing and the ambience a perfect. Whether you're here on vacation or you live locally, this is a must visit !!!

I am sorry but this just did not live up to the hype. It was not bad Katsu but there are so many better places in Honolulu. I had tons of fruit flies buzzing around my food and drinks and for almost $50 a set for a piece of pork, a bowl of miso soup and a cup of rice the prices seemed very high even for Hawaii. My wife is Japanese and she does not want to ever go back. Pork was not very moist and the breading was not light and fluffy like other local places. So expensive, bugs, food only mediocre and they have what I consider a cooking sake on the sake flight.

Bit chaotic with lining up- not enough staff. Instead of addressing you when they see you, they just ignore you instead. We had a reservation and happy to wait but just wanted to let them know we were outside. Food was impeccable, giant sizes and unlimited refills on the salad. Sauce is beautiful. Unfortunately the staff showing all their stresses on their face was a sour factor.
