Some food items listed on the menu were not available. Sent wrong salad dressing. Waiter was very nice to take off our bill because I couldn't eat the salad. Waiter was very nice and polite. Young lady greeting at entrance didn't give a warm and inviting greeting. We were a few minutes early for our reservation so she made us wait. Went to bar to get a drink before dinner but never got waited on. Left bar and went to lobby to wait for our exact reservation time.
Dessert was good. All in all we were very disappointed in our dining experience. Not such a pleasant 50th anniversary dinner.
Our waiter, Trevor was very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
His food and wine recommendation was great!
The server was very nice. Service in general was great!
My wife and I had a great experience. Our food (8 Oz filet and 1/2 chicken) was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Everyone we met was extremely warm and friendly. Even had a chance to meet the chef who was a pleasure to talk to.
Dinner was a marginal experience. We only had one phone between us, and the waiter refused to provide printed menus, even though they provided them at breakfast, and later, to an adjacent table. The menu was pretty limited. I had the corn soup as a starter, and the rack of lamb with baby artichokes. Both the soup and rack of lamb were bland. the artichokes were pretty good. The ice cream dessert was very nice. My wife had the filet with bone marrow. The steak was OK, done past the requested medium rare. We had an order of the rosemary potatoes, and they were somewhat flavorless. For the price there are better options.
We were there for a wedding. Wanted to stay close to the hotel. Great food. Great drinks. Kids even ordered room service from them later that evening. Highly recommend.
Dinner steak was good. Potatoes not very good but ok. Chicken was very dry and tasteless. Mashed potatoes no taste. Asparagus no spiced, bland. Breakfast was not good at all per the three at our table, one had eggs, potatoes and bacon. Toast like cold cardboard. Burrito cold, and mushy. Actually kinda gross. Avocado good but the egg and pot at lack taste. Expensive for not getting quality taste
View and food is great, but need more selection of food
Magical evening! The service, outdoor view, wine selection and meal were outstanding! Truly delightful!
Lights too bright. Server slow and rude. Menu limited
Food was good, definitely recommend that goat cheese app and the rack of lamb. Great views of the mountain. Our server was friendly. The host, Elle, seemed unhappy, had bad customer service, and we felt slightly uncomfortable by her attitude
Hostess was with unpleasant attitude.
The restaurant looked very nice with a nice atmosphere. The menu had some nice options. The manager did his best to make things right after some hiccups. My wife ordered a pasta dish with chicken for $43. It seemed a little pricey but it was Vail. When it arrived the chicken was cold on top. She asked for some fresh parmesian cheese, and we waited 10 minutes while the waiter wandered around in sight but not close enough for us to ask him where it was. Finally, he came to check on us, and we asked for the parmesian again. He went away and came back with some packets of grated parmesian like you get when you order Dominos pizza. We had seen other table get the freshly shaved parmesian. The waiter threw them on the table and walked away without saying a word. Needless to say we asked to see the manager. Ben took over and did his best to fix things with a round of drinks and dessert on the house. We would have walked out and never come back, but we will probably try it again due to his kindness. In theory it could be a nice place (a little pricey but not bad for a Vail hotel) if things went a little better better overall with the service.
We had a wonderful meal and Doug, our waiter, was amazing. He was very friendly and accommodated our every request. Highly recommend.
Trevor was exceptional with service provided our family celebrating son’s birthday! He is very personable and pleasant.
We went to Gessner to try something out of the Village. The restaurant had questionable reviews, but we wanted an earlier table than what we had on another reservation at a different restaurant. We were welcomed and the server did a nice job of getting us ready for the evening. We ordered drinks and the first round was perfect (slightly dirty vodka martini and a vodka martini with a lemon twist). We ordered a second round - same thing expected, but a very dirty vodka martini and a slightly dirty vodka martini with a lemon twist showed up. They were both graciously replaced. When our food came, both plates were barely room temp (the table next to us had the same experience and immediately sent theirs back). We decided we'd keep ours and our waiter told us that dinner (including dessert if we wanted) was on the house since the room temp dinners were unacceptable. When it was time to order dessert, though we usually don't, we decided to treat ourselves since it was going to be included in our comped bill. The food, though cold was fair tasting and the dessert was delicious. Our bill came, and expecting to be charged for just drinks as promised, we were ultimately charged for drinks and the dessert (that we wouldn't have ordered had it not been "free"). We decided to pay the bill, tip the waiter and be on our way, likely to not return. The setting is very nice, and it is nice to get out of the village, but unless the ongoing problems that we read about prior to going, and experienced first hand, are improved, for the money you'll pay across a resort setting, I'd go somewhere else.
Service was lacking. Restaurant was not too busy. We sat at the table for 10 minutes before we gave our drink order- a glass of red and a glass of white wine. Red arrived promptly along with the appetizers. After appetizer was finished, the waiter finally stopped by and I asked about the white wine, which was brought promptly. Ordered duck and filet. Filet was perfect. Duck breast was extremely undercooked and there was no flavor. Not really sure of what the plated side was as it was so small and the sauce overwhelmed it. Waiter was non existent until the end on the meal. I let him know about the duck. He generously offered to comp dessert. He put the order in and 15 minutes later, dessert arrived. Cherry crisp was good, but shy on crisp. All in all, a very mediocre meal for the price.
Strange music selection for ambiance! Pop music made it seem like a sports bar instead of the elegant impression given by the menu?! Ended up ordering from bar menu which was nice enough!
Charcuterie board was disappointing but the main course entrees were good. We had the duck and pasta. Wait time for food was over one hour even though there weren’t too many patrons.
We didn't realize Gessner was not in Vail Village- we were walking around exploring and had to jump in our car to drive over to Gessner. We had seen a different menu online with options such as Short Rib and were disappointed the menu changed- we were looking forward to trying some Colorado meats. Everyone felt meh about the menu options. The food itself was good, just not super inspiring. The drink menu was great and the valet parking was a nice touch.
I have quite a few allergies and the waiter and chef went above and beyond to accommodate them. Food was delicious.
Great cheese plate and variety! Our waiter was energetic, knowledgeable and very accommodating. We choose this spot for a birthday dinner and the did a great job when I called ahead creating a custom cheese plate and having Prosecco on the table already poured upon arrival.
Food was fantastic but service was not. Didn’t get everything I asked for. Bad waiting service. Young waitstaff with little to no experience. I’d come back for the food but will not because of experience.
It was bad experience. We were waiting 45 min for our soup that came cold.
Duck was rubbery, probably worst I ever had. On the plus my wife’s mushroom pasta was good. Also we got 10% off after complaining. I remember Gessner as a fine restaurant.
I hope they will return to previous standard soon.
It was a great atmosphere with wonderful food and service!
Food was phenomenal. Service was not great.
Service was terrible. Waited 30 min for first drink and another 30 before we ordered our entrees. Food was good.
Honestly, a very disappointing experience. Waited 20 mins for a server, service was average at best after that, and the restaurant just felt like it was poorly run, with several tables complaining/waiting for service around us.
Food was good but incredibly overpriced for the quality. The Waygu tasted like an average strip steak at best—not worth the price tag.
Really bummed this restaurant was so poor, but can’t win them all.
Price is high. Depending on the dish the food is okay for the price. Dishes seemed to come out a least 20-30 min after ordering. The service is very bad. The hosts are great and extremely knowledgeable about the food and wines but the few servers we had seemed to need a bit more training. Forgot to get drinks we ordered and side dishes.
Waiters knowledgeable, helpful and kind. Good atmosphere for adults or families. When one of our entrees was late, they gave us extra wine and comped the dinner that was late.
One cold meal, and potatoes cold the second time. One delayed 20minutes. Ordered deserts and still charged us full boat and 20% tip. Ridiculous
The service was awful. We waited for 45 min after being seated to get someone to take our order. We had to flag down the waiter to get someone come to the table and when she came she asked “if we wanted our check”.... we had not even ordered anything. Once we eventually ordered it took an hour to get the food. They are understaffed with waiters but have so many staff members that only pour you water. The menu is also not updated to what they actually serve in restaurant. Overall would not recommend if you want to have your meal in a timely matter.
We were charged for an item we did not order. We were over charged for a bottle of wine. The elk sausage was hard and not edible. The duck was rubbery. The lamb chops were bland and tough.
Will not complain about service because, during Covid, not sure if they were short staffed.
Service was exceptional. Food was delicious. Huge compliments to our server Trevor. He was fantastic and guided us through our menu item selections.
Food was excellent, but the waiters didn’t know what they were doing. It took forever to get our food both appetizers and entrees. Our son did not get his soup, they clearly forgot it. Then someone came out of the kitchen with our soup and bread and he took it to the wrong table!! The people said we didn’t order soup!! So the guy left the bread!! It took us another 15 min to get soup and bread!!! Just completely disorganized inexperienced wait staff and there is probably an issue in the kitchen since everything took sooo long. But when the food did come out, everything was delicious. We wanted to order dessert but decided to pass because we didn’t want to sit there for another hour
The waiter gave solid suggestions and everything was excellent!
Super disappointed. This resturant suffers from "Hotel Resturant" stigma. It can be overcome but only with great food and service which Gessner did not. Seafood platter. Fail it's a glorified shrimp cocktail with canned smoked oysters. The Rack was good but at +$60 no way. I think you can find better good for fair prices elsewhere. I would hard pass on this place. I hate to throw people under the bus but our server lacked knowledge, personality and basic understanding of how to provide great service. Could be management.
Worth the very short ride to Cascade village. Great cocktails and dinner!
Chris is the best! Excellent service from all the staff.
Despite the current circumstances this hotel restaurant brings back Pre COVID ambiance with all the necessary social distancing. Lobby/ Bar/ Restaurant is the après ski must!
