Mexican
Trey Foshee’s Galaxy Taco is a celebration of the culture and cuisine of Mexico, where you’ll find simple foods done well. A casual Mexican restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, we grind our own masa from non-GMO heirloom corn to make our tortillas, because we take the quality of our ingredients seriously. Our lunch menu is an interpretation of Mexican street food, with an emphasis on seafood and tacos, and our dinner menu has additional family style offerings. We offer a full bar specializing in agave spirits and regional beers from San Diego and south of the border, including our Galaxy Corn Lager made locally just for us by Benchmark Brewing. If you’re in the neighborhood, we invite you to come join the fun.

Will definitely be back. A little chilly the night we were there and they sat us next to the open doors...a heat lamp would have returned a 5 star review.

As other reviewers noted, surprisingly limited menu, expensive, with slow and inattentive service. I was so excited to try this place but the overall experience was only "meh" for me. The 3.5% surcharge was too much in the end. Won't be going back.

Wanted to go here since it opened & I read the great reviews but somehow it got off my radar. So we ditched Flemings & I dragged my husband to a 'Taco Shop', though not your average 'taco' shop.
Started with BS (brussel sprouts). They were roasted with a perfect char, tossed in a light lime & wonderful chipotle mayo that is mouthwatering. Like no other brussels you have had in San Diego. I wanted to lick the plate.

My husband had to have tacos. I love tacos but generally am not a big corn tortilla girl, but these 'masa' corn tortillas are to die for. Start with they DO NOT fall apart so you can eat a taco in a civilized manner. They tasted amazing with just the right amount of each ingredient so each bite is a taste explosion. The taco platter comes with 2 mix & match tacos and with beans & rice, which are just OK, but the tacos make up for it. Both tacos were equally tasty so I won't tell you what we got so you can experiment yourself. On the table is a red tomato based sauce (fair) & a green sauce I wanted to put on everything! My trout entree was cooked to perfection & was literally the BEST trout I have ever eaten including when in Idaho and caught in the river & cooked by a 5 star chef right there. At Galaxy the trout had crispy/crunchy skin, light/delicate white fish, perfectly cooked inside & not one single bone.

Cocktails were divine. The Paradise; citrus vodka, hibiscus, and passion fruit...Yum-my. My husband is still talking about the Pepino Picante; cucumber, cilantro, lime, jalepeno & tequila.....fresh & spicy all in one glass. For dessert Flan, which was creamy & delicious.

Our server Sarah was spectacular. Attentive but not annoying, friendly but not intrusive, she did not miss a beat.
Only negative is the 3.5% mandatory s/c. I think in a venue like this it is not appropriate. Perhaps a Georges or Flemings, but not this casual.
Can't wait to return.

Went for the Mescal Tasting, was more than I hoped or expected. Zachariah explained all as we tried 4 different varieties. Our server Dana , made the evening very special with suggested dishes and a friendly smile. We had the Mushroom Taco... a party for your mouth and then cauliflower... where was this when I was a kid? I would be a vegetarian now. The atmosphere is casual, light, airy with a Mexican Art Deco Flair.. I will be back.

The service and food were great. One of the best Brussels sprout dishes we had. The Mexican chicken rice soup is plenty big and very tasty. Tacos are relatively big with good quality ingredients. Will come back again and again.

This is not your typical Mexican food stop. Galaxy Taco has taken a deep dive in being inventive while staying true to Mexican cuisine. If all you want is a greasy cheese enchilada, then maybe go find something that serves food on wheels. This is not that place. One of the top 5 tacos I've eaten all time was Galaxy's mushroom taco. They start with cheese on a grill, with masa following. That gets flipped and filled with grilled mushrooms, peppers and onions. It's crispy, spicy and soft and chewy at the same time. Texture and flavors just going all over the place. I wish I'd order two. The mixed drinks we enjoyed were just as inventive. It's going to be a consistent stop for my San Diego trips!

Delicious! Galaxy Tacos never disappoints! Out favorite is to order the Trout for the table as an appetizer- everyone enjoys it so much. A chef we brought on our recent visit declared it “the best fish tacos she’s ever had”. The margarita was fresh and delicious, everything so good!!

Good food. Good service. Don’t like how they add 3.5% fee bc of increased expenses, feel that is responsibility of owner not of guests when your paying $20 for tacos.

Birthday 🎂 celebration! Alyssa was our server, she is wonderful! We shared every taco, all were absolutely delicious. Pitcher of Cadillac margaritas, salsa, guacamole, chips...all to perfection. The Brussels are THE BEST EVER!!! Cozy, charming, friendly space where you can enjoy friends and not worry if you are being TOO loud. Dessert - churros, chocolate & ice cream...complimentary for our Birthday Boy 🎉. The perfect end to the night.

Food and cocktails were interesting and tasty. Staff was attentive. And big kudos to staff and management—we missed the server running out after us when I forgot my purse but we quickly returned and they had it safely waiting for me and there was a voicemail on my phone trying to find me. Good reason to reserve on open table!

We have been to Galaxy Tacos many times and always enjoyed it until this visit. Our food did not come for almost an hour and fifteen minutes after it was ordered. It was cold and clearly had been prepared long before. Our waitress (Dana, I believe) was no where to be found during our wait for the food. Very bad experience, but given previous good experiences...we will give it one more chance. Seemed like the whole staff were not “on their game” on this last visit. Very disappointing.

There were 5 servers and two tables (we were one of the two) and the service was HORRIBLE. We had to ask to order, ask for refills and on top of it all, our toddlers meal came out about 5-minutes after all of ours. The waitress didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert and then they stand table side while they swipe your credit card and give you a machine to input your tip right there. Food was mediocre but who cares about food when the service is that bad.

Nice things first, the service is outstanding! Dessert is also outstanding. Try the tres leches cake or churros, yum! The but is... the tacos are mostly tortilla; they make them on site. Good tortilla, bad filling. Sauces are flavorful though.

We had fish tacos but couldn't taste the fish through the batter, overly tangy sauce and the tortilla. Steak taco that was mostly sauce and olives. Avocado taco that was a sliver of avocado and mounds of sauce and tortilla. Everything was tasty but poorly portortioned. Pretty underwhelming overall.

Might try again another time because the staff was great and the restaurant is gorgeous. Hope it was just an off night.

My third time here- always exceptional, great atmosphere, smiling staff, tasty food. We both had the Happy Hour michelada, and i ordered the dorito and bean dip appetizer- which fortunately was not doritos but a sizeable pile of puffed wheat pretzely shaped wheat crackers that were great with the beans. i ordered the carne asada entree with nopalitos and came with house made tortillas. My friend had the chicken enchilada with chile verde- mine was cooked perfectly mediun rare, and both of us pretty much cleared our plates. I love the nopales with the meat! We were there around 5pm - 630 on a Thursday evening and enjoyed a great conversation about an upcimingtrip to India that we are both taking in March. If you get there a moment before 5 there is streetparking on the adjacent side street on the SW and on the alley street just behind on the south.
