Gaido's Seafood Restaurant
How can frozen fish be called fresh? The answer for anyone with snap is simple: it can’t. That’s why Gaido’s is the classic choice for fresh Gulf seafood. Patrons know Gaido’s is real, when others are clearly not. From red snapper and blue crab to white tablecloths crumbed with panache, there’s no denying Gaido’s is one-of-a-kind in a world of imitation. Now, after four generations of filleting, frying, grilling and baking, Gaido’s has grown into the picture perfect place of traditions– birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, reunions. As the largest fresh fish house on the coast, Gaido’s can serve up to 2,500 happy diners a day. Plus, with the Pelican Club, private dining, catering, a new food truck and parking galore…it’s easy to see why Gaido’s -– for over 100 years – is truly the coastal classic.

Started with a rude greeter telling is at least 45 minutes without reservation so went outside and got on open table. Walked back in with reservation and told still would have to wait. Seated after about ten minutes. Ordered red snapper which server said was signature item. It was very poor. Greasy and cold and a tiny piece for $35. Very disappointed in place. Certainly not worth the wait and price.
Excellent seafood with a view of the Gulf.
I LOVE Gaidos and have been going for years. This visit was sub par. They literally sat us in the far back corner on the other side of the wall from Nicks...the fried palace. There were plenty of other tables. The only other table in this dark quiet room with us was a table of twelve cheerleaders with their parents. You can imagine how obnoxious that was. Service was sub par because I’m sure they forgot about us back there. The food of course was perfect!
Oysters brochette, bienville, and on the half shell were all delicious.
Lump crabmeat soup special was truly special.
Place has been here since 1911 and it's easy to see how they have done it. Great service with lots to pick from on the menu
Great food and great service!
Was very expensive for the food we ordered
I have driven past Guidos for almost a decade because my last impression was that it was an overpriced fry house with service and food quality typical of a mega sized restaurant. We had a party of 9 that decided to eat there and I was beyond pleasantly surprised. My initial shock was the prices on the menu, but everything we sampled was absolutely delicious- from the blue cheese shrimp and grits to the specialty sauces on a variety of fresh fish. Everything was fresh and impeccable prepared and served. We will definitely be back next trip to Galveston. It’s waaaaay better than it used to be.
Our server was a man named Evan. What a pleasant experience he made it! Very knowledgeable! It was truly a wonderful supper all around !
My first time at Gaido's was when I was 8 years old. That was 60 years ago. This is one of the longest running traditions in my life. I hope to be coming to Gaido's thirty years from now. Thanks for the memories!
Daughter lunch one of our favorites
We chose to eat an early lunch at Gaidos. Our friends suggested this place and we couldn’t have been happier with the meal and the experience. Thanks for your hospitality!
We’ve been to gaido’s many times and they constantly exceed our expectations
But this was a large group , it took too long to get the food and it came out cold and that’s my only complaint , everything else was wonderful
New Years Celebration
Excellent food and service. Went on New Years Eve and splurged! From extra fresh bread to crab filled shrimp, was a divine dining experience.
Probably one of the better restaurants in this tourist locale. Interior is old-school in atmosphere and appearance. That can be both a positive or minus depending on what your priorities are. Service was gracious and on point. Dishes were tasty, if not inventive. We would return the next time we're in Galveston, if only because most of the nearby restaurants are bars w/ food or national chains.
I’ve never had a better meal.
We love home cooked meals and this restaurant prepares home cooked, freshly prepared and fresh seafood. We enjoyed our oysters, red snapper, seafood bisque and crawfish!!
Happy New Year, all! Just finished a great meal of charcoal grilled snapper with a lump crab meat topping, several tall G&Ts and a ten pound brownie to top it all off at Gaidos! May not see midnight! Best wishes, be safe!
The food was over priced, we had the Mahi with lump crab special, the Mahi was cold, the crab was excellent though just not much of it for $44.00. The restaurant itself was clean, the tables were beautiful. Be sure and ask how much the specials are, we were shocked it was that much. Our expectations were not met maybe we had too high of hopes.
I love Gaido's. I can honestly say that over the last 35 years and dining here 100's of times, I have never had a bad meal or less than superior experience at Gaido's. This visit was no exception. Excellent Food, Excellent Service.
Not worth the money
We’re vacationing from out of state and our biggest expectation was for super fresh, straight-from-the-gulf seafood. We both got the shrimp and tasted that strange chemically taste you get from imported shrimp that has been plumped up or treated somehow. We were both really disappointed in that. Also there are no booths only tables but other than that, everything was great. We had a nice view of the sun setting on the gulf. I liked their homemade herby bread and felt that all the offered preparations would have been wonderful had the seafood been of higher quality. Also our server was really nice and very helpful and the drinks were very generous with liquor.
Very nice seafood menu and a good selection for non seafood guest. Mathew presented the specials with knowledge and options. I have never tried golden tile and it was a nice selection with white wine, lemon and butter sauce. The one shared dessert, key lime cheese cake was not memorable but we would have been satisfied without it.
Uncle Bill was terrific. His recommendations were spot on!
Food was exquisite as always. They had golden tile! What a treat! Our server was Luis, did a most excellent job. When we are in Galveston, one dinner has to be at Gaidos!
As usual, the food and service were excellent. Our waiter took great care of us. We were there as a family for our Mother for Christmas.
Was not impressed with the interior - seemed outdated. It also smelled horribly like garbage or some other unidentifiable nastiness. Service was good not extraordinary. Had crab stuffed shrimp w/parmesean tomatoes which was pretty good. They also bring out fresh baked bread with olive oil/seasoning which was definitely yummy. I had a margarita which seemed good but a bit small and overloaded with ice. The pecan pie that was raved about in reviews tasted burnt; it was gross. Save your money and find another place to dine.
Disappointing experience. Food was okay. Service was slow... expected better based on other reviews.
They made our anniversary date very special. The oysters Maria were the best oysters I’ve ever eaten and the seafood dishes both my husband and I ordered were exceptional- I got the pecan crusted Mahi Mahi and he had the blackened Yellowfin Tuna. The pecan dessert was delicious as well! We will definitely be back to try other dishes.
Early Reservation and I arrived early. I'm glad. Seated promptly and attended to immediately though waited a bit for my server. Nevertheless, service and food top drawer. I shall return when next in Galveston. Efforts to please extended to the gift shop.
Jonathan was the best server I had in years Of you dine there ask for him Everyone at the table had amazing fish dishes You can’t gin wrong with their fresh fish I do think the place cpuld is a decorative update and a bit more ambience
Excellent food & service. We were seated by the window facing the water-beautiful day & great view!
Fantastic cuisine! Top notch service, excellent food.
Great charcoal oysters and Martini appetizer.
Very poor value special entree for $55 .
We had a very nice Christmas Eve dinner at Gaido’s while we were in the area vacationing in our RV. We are from the Houston area, so Gaido’s was not new to us. The food and service were very good...and that pecan pie!!!
The food mixed; some dishes were very good, others just average. Service started out good, but seemed to disappear as the meal progressed. Overall, I did not feel the food and service were consistent with the prices charged. Probably will not go again.
Had not been there in a long time. It is still a great place to go and have a great meal.
BEST OUTING THE WIFE AND I HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME FABULOUS
Christmas Eve dinner.. everything was great!!
