About Gaido's Seafood Restaurant

The toast of the Texas coast.
How can frozen fish be called fresh? The answer for anyone with snap is simple: it can’t. That’s why Gaido’s is the classic choice for fresh Gulf seafood. Patrons know Gaido’s is real, when others are clearly not. From red snapper and blue crab to white tablecloths crumbed with panache, there’s no denying Gaido’s is one-of-a-kind in a world of imitation. Now, after four generations of filleting, frying, grilling and baking, Gaido’s has grown into the picture perfect place of traditions– birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, reunions. As the largest fresh fish house on the coast, Gaido’s can serve up to 2,500 happy diners a day. Plus, with the Pelican Club, private dining, catering, a new food truck and parking galore…it’s easy to see why Gaido’s -– for over 100 years – is truly the coastal classic.

My wife and I were in Galveston on vacation, and wanted seafood. I had been to Gaido’s before but it had been a while, and she had never been, so it was a pretty new experience for both of us. We were not disappointed. The food (the blackened combination platter for me, the red snapper for her) was on point and the service from Keenan was attentive but not obtrusive.

You’ll pay more than a lot of seafood restaurants in Galveston, but it’s very much a “you get what you pay for” situation.

Had one night in Galveston with many restaurants to choose from. Gaido’s did not disappoint. The food was amazing, crab, swordfish, and especially the scallops and the service was excellent. This is a must go to restaurant.

Shrimp was excellent, fried oysters not so much. Too much breading, cooked too hard.

While pricey for lunch, the Redfish and fried oysters more than met expectations. Both entrees were outstanding and perfectly prepared. You can't go wrong with either the grilled asparagus or the parmesan tomatoes as your side. Coffee was smooth and rich. The on-site prepared bread and herb oil presented when we sat down.....well, can I say that we were hard pressed to save room for the rest of our lunch? Oh my! Everything from start to finish, including the service by Brittani was outstanding. We eat early lunch on an off season Saturday and by the time we left, they were getting busy. Worth the drive from Houston!

Great food and outstanding service in an appealing environment (and, no loud music!). My wife and I have been returning there for 40 years and still consider Gaido’s the best restaurant in Galveston!

Been going to Gaidos since I was a child. Brought mny children whenever we were in town, and now as adults. Always a remarkable place to enjoy great food and drinks in a warm, cozy atmosphere. Consistently excellent.

Special destination for us from Austin! Well worth the trip! Gaido's is an institution and deservedly so. Extensive menu - and everything is so delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the Famous Seafood Platter. Shrimp scampi is mouth watering and totally satisfying! Attentive and thoughtful service and you leave with a feeling that you want to come back very soon!

Went on a Saturday afternoon as part of a group of four. We were seated at the appointed reservation time. Server was very accommodating of our very social bunch. This is an "old line" upscale beach restaurant with views across the road of the beach.
Food was very good, comfort style - sides were parmesean broiled tomatoes, asparagus, potatoe wedges.
Gumbo was a dark brown style with shrimp and very tasty.
All in the party were happy with their entrees- salmon. Large fried shrimp. Crab stuffed shrimp. Fried soft shell crabs - just had to get th even though it was an odd time of year - and they were delightful.
No desserts were ordered.
Good food, good service and would return again.

Fabulous!!!!! Best seafood I've had! My mom who grew up in California agrees it's only topped by Fisherman's Warf. Best crab cake I've had. Had the blackened plate with golden tile, was delish! They even gave me a special desert for my birthday!!! Waitress was sweet and gave the best service! They have a cute little gift shop too. Will definitely go back! If you only eat at one place while in Galveston, make it Gaido's!!!!!

fifty years after graduation from UTMB, we returned to celebrate a reunion. Guido's was our only consideration for dinner. After a crab and avocado app we chose the Mahi-Mahi and crab special to share. Elena was our server. She was helpful in selection, perfectly attentive and could not have done more to make this a special night.
Thank you, Guido's, for keeping the tradition and great food for more than 50 years.

Food was overpriced for the quality of the food you receive. The shrimp on the appetizer were TINY and flavorless - the crab claws were small, spongy, watery, and flavorless like they had been frozen. They try to sell themselves as upscale but the only thing upscale is the price. Wait staff is pushy about upsales and pairings. We went there for our honeymoon celebration and had asked for a more private table when we made our reservations - they placed us in a high traffic area close to the kitchen. Every time a waiter passed I got bumped. My husband’s tuna was not cooked as requested. He ordered it medium and it came barely seared on each side and ICE COLD on the inside. They claim to have the freshest seafood but we feel that tuna may well have been frozen. My salmon was OK but nothing special. I have had better salmon at Pappadeaux’s for a quarter the price. Also the light fixtures throughout the dining area were CAKED with dust... with all of the ceiling fans in the dining room I felt sure dust was falling in all of the food. We did not eat our meal when it arrived. We took it home and ended up throwing it away. $165 of food in the trash. I sent an email directly to Gaido’s the next morning and have not had a response. We will never return.

It is a preiminent restaurant on the island. It is the first restaurant that we think of when considering where to dine on the island. The food and service are great. Where else would one go?

A nice place for dinner during the week, I understand that they are busy at weekends so probably a bit noisier. The table are not on top of each other so it is quite intimate.

Food was very good but not cheap, you get what you pay for in life.

Dinner with my parents tonight. I can remember going there as a little girl and it was awesome to have the honor to go to dinner with them there tonight. NOSTALGIA! So blessed! And yep the fingerbowls at the end — still remember my younger sis drinking it thirty years ago. Ok- on to the food: Blackened shrimp and the grilled combo plate were divine. Fried oysters were huge and tender. Tonight the food lived up to my memories and exceeded them!

First dinner at historic (>century-old) Galveston classic eatery. The fine waitpersons seem to have only 3 tables assigned to them, so you get all the attention you need; as the place is huge, stretched out parallel to Seawall and the beach, you can linger long and an army of wait staff is present. Abundant blue crab the specialty, and superb (my choice jumbo lump crab with Au Gratin-sherry, cream, cheddar; my wife's the golden tile wade, blackened as a special), as were all other courses: good Watkins bisque and decent gumbo (although my wife, daughter of a New Iberia native, felt Fisherman's Wharf had Gaido's beat there); delicious pecan ball dessert; and I can't mention the rest because they seem to have changed their menu already.

I have been eating here for over 40 years, and Nick Gaido and his staff have done an excellent job of restoring the food quality to the level it was in days gone by.
The portions are generous, and the prices are fair.
Hopefully, the bathrooms can be completely remodeled this winter, they are in need of update.
