Foreign Concept Ratings and Reviews
We were in for a midweek lunch and received the prompt service you'd expect from a downtown establishment - from the minute we entered until we left was exactly 60 minutes.
Pleasantly, quality was not at all effected by the efficient speed. My ahi tuna burger was filled with a perfectly seared, decadently tender tuna steak. The togarashi seasoning gave it a mild kick which was balanced nicely by the sweet asian slaw and creamy avocado that topped the "burger".
There's no fries weighing down this dish either, it comes with a citrusy (yuzu, I think) dressed green salad making for a refreshing side.
The waiter had indepth knowledge of the menu and was able to make great recommendations to my companions. The atmosphere is bright and clean- an incredible improvement over the dive-y establishments that previously held the location; modern Asian style, with a comfort level you might find in your own dining room.
Price-wise, we found it to be wholly reasonable at $20 per person (not including beverages) for the quality of the food, execution and atmosphere.
Foreign Concept has definitely made it on to our list of sit down lunch mainstays.
I am also looking forward to trying out the dinner menu sometime soon.
Seemed like I was in the way of the employees social conversation while sitting at the bar.
Only service I received was when the bartender noticed I was looking around for my dessert to arrive as it took an odd time to show up, at least she stopped her conversation with a off duty employee to check in on it. Food really wasn't mind blowing tartare was bland with a hint of chile. Lobster broth was out rich/salty couldn't even finish the broth.
This was our first experience (table of four) and we had a great time! The food was a creative twist on many different Asian dishes (Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese) and they absolutely nailed it. The mango/squash slaw and lemon chicken were delicious choices, and the trout noodle main dish is both fresh and so tasty! The chefs knocked it out of the park, we will DEFINITELY be back. Service was also very good.
Well, returned to Foreign Concept for the fourth time. It was fantastic and I really didn't think it could get much greater. The food is very innovative, well presented and absolutely delicious. Upon receiving the bill, I was really impressed with the amount of food and the quality of food for the prices they charge. We will be returning shortly and will bring our family and friends. People should not miss out on this great restaurant!
Wow, what a great meal! I can't say enough good things. We ordered a charcuterie and angus beef tataki for small plates, both were excellent. Large plates we got the steamed buns and pork kaarage, both were amazing. The star of the night was definitely the steamed buns. Had a vietnamese coffee parfait for dessert. It's rare that i don't have at least one tiny complaint about a meal, every part of this meal was above my expectations, including the service which was awesome.
The only issue with our dinner was with the clay pot. For the price point, it would have been more filling if they added a carb to it, like a side of rice. I'm not a fan of super hot peppers, and asked the server about the shishito peppers who said "only 1 in 30 are hot and you won't get one." Well we did, and that spoiled the palate for a bit. Couldn't eat the rest of them after that. I wouldn't reorder that dish but the rest of the dinner was tasty, especially the baos.
One of the best meals we've had out in a very long time. We shared three appetizers and one main, which was ample. We thoroughly enjoyed each dish, the presentation was artful and the flavours divine. The service was excellent. We would go back in a heartbeat. All in all, a fabulous dining experience.
