The tuna was amazing, service exceptional. I am excited to go back!
Every course was spot on. Creative food that is visually very appealing. The taste does not disappoint.
Fusion food with great balance of taste from Korea, Vietnam, Chinese and Japan. Few menu items are changed but the all time favourites are still there.
We were there early 515 because that’s the only reservation we could get. Fair enough it was Big Taste. The waiter was fairly knowledgeable about the food but then he insisted that the wine I wanted was being replaced by another wine which was ‘the same’ I just expected the service to be higher end. It was just ok.
Food was pretty good, though my hanger steak was not tough (I expected it to be a little tough) it was grisly. Couldn’t swallow several pieces.
Flavours were good tho.
Visit was decent but I wouldn’t likely return. Too many other options in Calgary to repeat mediocrity.
Food was mediocre at best.
Great food, fun atmosphere. Service was a tad slow, but was during the Big Taste week so we didn’t mind
Presentation was beautiful and the combination of flavours - very delicious!
We visited Foreign Concept for the first time as part of the Big Taste and were looking forward to it. Being at dinner time the restaurant was very busy. Our reservation was timely. There was too much confusion with regard to which menu (regular/Big Taste) to order from. The information was delivered in a rush and our friends had never been part of the Big Taste before so were confused with ordering. The surprise was that we didn't have a choice in ordering. It was either everyone had the BT or off the menu. Next time I suggest that the either/or information be posted with the reservation or at the entrance. Also, we had little contact with a server and at one point needed to request water and my partner's wine that he had ordered with his dinner never arrived. Overall the group enjoyed the food and atmosphere and would certainly try the restaurant again. Since that evening we have eaten at two other BT restaurants where guests could order from the BT or regular menu without any fuss.
Can’t say enough about this meal. We went for “big taste” and were not disappointed. The hanger steak entree was amazing. Flavours like you wouldn’t believe. .... appetizer and dessert were great too. I love this restaurant and will definitely be back.
5 of us dined here during the Big Taste event. Wished to have more freedome to order whatever we wanted. Couple of us wanted to try Big Taste menu while others wanted to order from the regular menu (which is more expensive than Big Taste menu). However, we're told that Big Taste memu is available only when the entire table orders the same. I wasn't so excited about the Big Taste menu but kind of 'had to go with it' as some of us really wanted it. Food was okay but I left the place not fully enjoyed the dining experience. I don't understand the meaming of their 'rule' to force customer to choose the memu. It's not all you can eat or regular menu.
We went for big taste and had an awesome meal. Flavours on a courses were outstanding and dishes were very creative. The main course had several flavours that were good individually and when combined. It was the best meal we have had in a long time.
Different but delicious
I tried the big taste Calgary menu. The atmosphere was great! Felt I was in Shanghai. Friendly waitress welcomed us. The main meal was scrumptious, mixed well with kimchi, bbq shrimp and Parmesan cheese on pasta. However, I had a big tummy ache after today’s lunch. A bit disappointed.
Warm and gracious service, lovely ambiance, exquisite food presentation and taste, a definite new favourite!
Attentive friendly service all through our dining experience. Really enjoyed the tuna tataki, squash and mango slaw, and the beef tenderloin with white kimchi fried rice. Nice cocktail selections and desserts as well. Looking forward to the next visit.
The all-star team of chefs have come together to offer the most interesting and delicious menu Calgary has seen in years ~ a definite must visit restaurant. Plate sizes and diverse options offer the ability to eat your own dish or go tapas-style with your fellow diner(s). An amazing service oriented dining experience, yet comfortable and without pretence. Cannot wait for our next visit!
Really great food - we had the charcuterie board, forbidden rice and pork buns and all were amazing.
Food was super - some dishes had large and small sizes.
Knowledgeable waiter (food and wine)
Different and unusual tastes and textures.
The space was cosy and comfortable. My partner liked this restaurant a lot.
A nice find - would definitely come here again!
We arrived at like 5 so it just opened we were served quickly and had a good meal I’ll go back. Nothing over the top special but quite good.
We arrived early for our reservation and were seated immediately. A group celebrating Chinese New Year showed up at the same time and put on a show with dancing dragons, we were seriously impressed! Our waitress, Leasa, took our order and we had our food within minutes. The food was awesome, plentiful and different. We will return. Great job guys!
Excellent evening celebrating the lunar New Year. Made extra special by visiting dragons and drumming.
What a unique restaurant! Really liked the flavors and presentation of the dishes, staff were really friendly and it was a cozy and stylish atmosphere
Some food was a little spicy, but overall we had
7 different plates and all we very good.
Great food great service. Duncan always great to us when we go there. Would go back again and again.
The only thing I wasn't happy with was our wine service. The server spilled wine down the side of the glass and on the table almost every time she poured. When we mentioned it, she said she didn't have good depth perception. She was pouring too quickly and not being careful. I don't pay good money for wine to have it spilled on the table.
Our sever recommended the trout and was it ever good. The flavours were light, lively and at the same time delicate, and the presentation lovely. I'd go back just to have this dish again. Amazing!
Awesome! Must try the Eggplant and Forbiden Rice.
It's all good, and if you're unsure the staff are friendly and happy to make great tasty suggestions. Casual fun playful atmosphere, good-looking people smiling and enjoying their dinners all around.
Be sure to ask for Taylor when making a reservation, he was attentive but not over attentive. Made good conversation and recommend the perfect items. We enjoyed the atmosphere and we recommend it to anyone.
Dinner with three friends at Foreign Concept was a great experience. From fun, yet reasonably priced, shared dishes to great service, we'll be rushing back to try the menu items we didn't get to on our first visit. The trout was a favourite along with the tuna carpaccio and slaw. I was much more impressed with the food and service here than I was at another Asian-shared plate restaurant just a block or two south.
Great place for a get together to catch up and eat great food
The food was great but being vegetarian (and mostly plant based so as a rule no dairy, no egg, etc.) there were not many options. The items we did have were wonderful.
There is nothing especially wrong with the food. It just lacks flavour. There was nothing about the meal that made we want to ever return.
Way too overrated. You’re paying a lot for mediocre Chinese / Asian food.
We heard some decent reviews, but the food was trying way too much to be something is it should be. Just way too many flavours at once. Doesn’t know what if wants to deliver to you.
Amazing food. Everything was so flavorful and unique. We were a party of six celebrating a family member's birthday with a nice dinner out. The menu is not huge...maybe six or seven appetizer or small plates and same amount of large plates as they are called on the menu. The waitress suggested we each try a small plate and a large plate and share. All very good but too much for us. With 2 bottles of wine it ended up being rather pricey but I would go back in a heartbeat. My favorite dish was the trout. I don't even like trout normally. The chef had won an award for it and if you try it you will understand why. So delicious!
Great choice for family-style dining and socializing. Menu is intended to be shared so the more the merrier. Dinner on a very cold and snowy Wednesday so only 5 or 6 tables in the two hours spent there. They could have seated us at a 4-top instead of a table for two so we would have more room to spread out - we ended up with 3 small plate dishes and 1 large plate dish plus a bottle of wine so some table management was necessary. Service was attentive enough although hard to judge since the place was not busy.
Best dishes we had - Imperial Roll wrap (hands-on roll your own lettuce wrap), Lemon chicken (a little too sweet for me but my dining companion really liked it), Lobster broth stew (broth was very tasty and plenty of mussels, shrimp and other seafood)
Worst dish - Miso baked potato (needs a better distribution of miso and cheese curds; many potato bits had nothing on them plus I ended up putting some Gochujang? sauce from the Imperial roll to spice it up a bit)
The four of us tried the restaurant for something a little different. We tried 4 small plates and 3 large plates. It was enough for us and we finished everything. I particularly liked the chicken as the sauce was very interesting. The eggplant was very good as well. The restaurant was quiet which was worked out well as one of us is hard of hearing. The service was attentive. I am not sure I would go there frequently but it was definitely worth the experience. The only downside: the wine selection by the glass was limited. The $13 5oz glass of pinot was pretty thin and not worth the price.
Everything was perfect. The meal and the service. It was a great dinner.
Great spot - thoughtful and creative menu - good vibe - good cocktails - great ingredients and quality...
