Fixins is a full service soul food restaurant that celebrates the history and traditions of African American culture in an inclusive environment that welcomes everyone! The Fixins outdoor seating put us right in the middle of a lively neighborhood festival and great people watching. It made for a fun Saturday night!

I hope the people at fixins are able to view this review. This was my first visit to the restaurant. The server was fantastic. However the food what's not. The food on the menu is soul food dishes, but it did not have the soul food taste seasoning wise. I know when you cook for the public,It's different from cooking in your kitchen. But if you're cooking soul food, you're cooking for a different demograph of people, soul food is highly seasoned food, the food cannot be bland it's not for yt people's taste buds. Hmm, that's what makes so food so delicious. To break the food down the candied yams were not peeled deep enough there were strands left on them so you couldn't chew them. The sauce was not thick & candied ,nor sweet not taste of nutmeg or cinnamon. The chicken was fried crispy on the outside ,to wet on the inside which means fried to fast. instead of cooking to cook the food you cook, to make the crust crispy. Another person at my table ordered oxtails, which were not tender,again mean not cooked long enough. The macaroni and cheese were cooked to taste like cheese instead of southern macaroni and cheese, it had no salt & pepper at all cooked in. The Koolaid I give it a 100. The Kool aid was perfect, but I think fixings has to seasoned food the way African Americans season food and not the way White people pallets desire food. We have to stop dumbing down our stuff to fit there taste buds, because I look across the restaurant at the demographic of the guest. They loved it, but that's not what down home cooking soul food tastes like there was no taste in. anything. Maybe I was told it was a bad night, but please fix this. Get back to down home soul food, highly seasoned food. It fits our palates, and that's what you're cooking for. Basically, the ancestors would not be proud of this soulfood. Seasoning hits every cell in the body and make your toes crawl.

A meal that always takes me back to my childhood!! From the fried chicken smothered in brown pan gravy, to the charred okra and let’s not forget the mason jar of Red Kool-Aid!!! Everything about it say, Granny’s kitchen!!! Will keep coming back again and again!!

I went to have birthday dinner with my mom and a friend and I was surprised how horrible the service was. It took over 10 minutes for someone to take our order and when I received my food I had to wave a server to bring me my missing items the drinks came 20 minutes after our order way after. I was surrounded by 2 tables that got better service than I received. At this time I won’t be back. Never do I go somewhere for my birthday and get such horrible service.

Alize was an excellent server. Everyone in our party of 6 enjoyed their meals. We couldn't have asked for a better outing.

Celebrated Father's Day, front desk and waitress provided excellent services. My grandson's oxtails were very fatty and couldn't eat mine were okay. Quality control needs to be enacted on each dish before serving. Fried chicken and catfish were excellent. Overall food taste and portions have improved since last visit 2 years ago.

My family of six went to Fixins Soul Kitchen on Father’s Day. We all ordered something different, yet each of us said the food and atmosphere were phenomenal. Loved the lemonade and Koolaid served in old school canning jars. I had oxtails that were tender with an incredible sauce. We will definitely go back. Our waitress was nice and professional. The only down side was that service was slow. I acknowledge that they were extremely busy.
