Eugene's Gulf Coast Cuisine
Join us in celebrating the flavors and traditions of the Gulf Coast in a charming, casual-fine dining atmosphere. All our dishes are made from scratch (except the Ranch dressing and Blue Bell ice cream) and our seafood and steaks are grilled over a wood-burning fire of oak and hickory. The freshest seafood, certified angus beef steaks, delicious sides, daily specials, decadent desserts, wonderful wines, best martini’s in town and genuine Southern hospitality are a few of the things that will keep you coming back.
the food was delicious an the service was just right
Oysters were the best I’ve had in Houston! Good seafood, great service
Great place. Happy hour goes till 7. $10 oysters. Great service and excellent food.
As always, a wonderful experience. Good food, great service and we love the ambiance of the bar area.
Great waitstaff and nice ambiance. I live the okra and tomatoes😋The parking can be a pain, but valet is an option.
Our first visit and we loved it. The dining room is lovely and food was great.
The grilled sea bass, with lump crab topping was outstanding. One of our dinner companions commented it was the best fish he'd ever eaten. We also enjoyed fried shrimp (a Gulf Coast classic!) and grilled scallops. We recommend the spinach side dish, as well as the stewed okra with tomatoes, and yams sides. Our waitress, Abigail, was attentive, knowledgeable and personable. We love this place!
We enjoyed Eugene's on our prior visit, and were big fans of the previous incarnation of the restaurant (Danton's).
However, on this particular visit, we were promptly seated... and ignored. After some time, some water arrived. A server went by and said he would be with us soon, then promptly went to fuss over two different tables (not serving food, which I understand should be served immediately, just fussing over previously served tables).
After 15 minutes of being ignored, we left. Really poor experience. I guess they were overwhelmed. *shrug*
We have been to Eugene’s a number of times as we live in the area. This time, though the service was inconsistent. The entrees (3 of us each ordered one of the the nightly specials) were very expensive and just ok- they were greasy and somewhat undercooked. Our server Ryan was slow and made several mistakes- our drinks did not come out together and one was forgotten, he entered the wrong sides for one if the entrees and never got the correction quite right (I ordered sweet potatoes and spinach and he brought me onion rings and red beans& rice). I shared spinach off of one of the other plates but it was drenched in garlic and very greasy. Lastly, I ordered a second bloody Mary and somehow it was overlooked when the other drinks were brought, so when he returned, he brought me two. This was a week night so two drinks was plenty and three too many for me!
We love the idea of Eugene’s and supporting our local restaurants but after signing a check for over $250 for a week night dinner (no bottles of wine), we won’t be returning often give the inconsistency of the service and food.
Always have an enjoyable evening at Eugene’s (and previously Danton’s). Best gumbo in town.
Great friends HH with good bites and drinks for Fat Tuesday. I couldn’t imagine better service and experience!
Some food is good and other is not very. Just acceptable but the space, atmosphere and vibe is great. I lived in walking distance to Danton’s and I hoped the food would be more consistent at new restaurant. Sorry but I really like you all but I had Sea Bass and it was not good.
Food was good but not outstanding. Most of it came out cold.
Delicious Gulf fish and seafood, scrumptious cocktails and desserts, and friendly, efficient service characterize this restaurant. It is cheerfully noisy and busy, but in such an attractive and fondly remembered space, it provided a joyful and delicious evening. We are already looking forward to another visit.
Waiter took my wife as small i guess n served her a half order of her shrimp dish which was very good .
Although she is a rather small lady , her appetite is not , all forgiven n we shall return . Good to see the owner on the job n nice to talk to him again . Old customer from Chelsea St. .
Good place and will likely return. Comes close to similar restaurants one would find in New Orleans but not there. Could do better for prices charged.
Great lunch of the very delicious corn/crab chowder and wedge salad and guest enjoyed his.
A really nice experience in a revived restaurant which is still finding its feet but has great potential to build on its founders previous incarnation. We will be back just to experience its inevitable upward trajectory in the truly authentic restaurants.
The noise level is ideal for enjoying your own table conversation without having to feel restricted by other tables and diners being either too quiet or too noisy.
The food was excellent.
Can't wait to try other items.
Definitely will return.
Great restaurant, great service, and tremendous value for the quality of food!
Great ambiance off the beaten path. Excellent menu options and everything was mouth watering.
First time at this location, food excellent as before. New decor, ambiance exceptional. Looking forward to Saturday Brunch and, perhaps future Sunday Blues Brunch.
Enjoyable evening and great food...rather crowded because of the holiday, but I plan to return with friends. We were there to celebrate 39th wedding anniversary. Great venue and yummy crab dishes.
It made for a perfect Valentine’s Day dinner.
So Worth the Gathering.... Freshness of the oysters, gumbo, crab cakes and topped off with a vanilla caramel bread pudding (so yummy) deserves a repeat performance!
This was my second visit to Eugene's. However, I was excited to introduce one of my friends to your restaurant. She was very impressed as well. Her comment was, "yes, I can see this will be one of my new hangouts!" Thanks for all your efforts in making our Valentine Day Lunch great!
We have been going to Danton’s for years. We were so sad when it had to close until we got to experience Eugene’s. Kyle hit a home run with his new location — decor, staff and food. Jon well done
The lunch specials are a great deal...perfect sized portions of the same yummy dishes. So glad to have you in the neighborhood. We'll be back!
Excellent service. Delightful ambiance end of story. Food was barely memorable
Great Birthday celebration!
Excellent dining experience and great food / cocktails.
We never celebrate Valentines Day on the 14th... we celebrated today and loved it.... Danton’s was our favorite restaurant and Eugene’s was just as good.... love the decor.... now our new favorite!!!
Great food—don’t order specials—menu much better
Service, food, cocktails and attention to detail were outstanding!
Sat at the bar. Great HH options. Friendly staff. Never felt rushed. Will be back. Neighborhood gem!
Food from the kitchen was slow.
We had an early dinner befor a show and were pleased with the time spent there. As usual the food was superior and the drinks too. My husband had one of the daily specials and enjoyed every bite. I ordered the shrimp stuffed with card dressing, okra and dirty rice. It was all just delicious. We split a dessert- the cheesecake key lime pie. That is always a good choice when they have it. Our waitress from Louisiana was a delight. As always we plan on returning in the near future.
Food was great, service was great. I just enjoy a good restaurant and glad they opened Eugene's after Dantons closed.
Based upon the online reviews I think we expected more. Food was good but not spectacular, our server did a good job. We were seated in the back room which has no warmth to it and doesn’t seem to have any connection to a gulf coast seafood restaurant. We might have felt better about the experience if we were in the main dining room. We left saying probably again for lunch but not for dinner.
Checks all my boxes!
