When we arrived with a $150 gift certificate that we got for our wedding, the restaurant was permanently closed...what a wast of time and money
When we got to the restaurant the doors were locked and the restaurant was dark. It seemed like they had closed down but we couldn't find any information online and when we tried to call we go no answer.
We loved Emmerson and are very sorry it closed. Their weekend brunch menu was imaginative and delicious. We will miss them!
The food was good however the service was rather slow in the beginning and the food was barely warm when served. We ordered pasta and it was not hot .
Kale salads were outstanding by grilling the kale and the olive oil lemon juice dressing was great. Daughter's pasta dish ok. Salmon was very good. Restrooms were perfect. Wine list has some values and pricey options.
Wasn’t told the menu was changed for New Year’s Eve, the portions were incredibly small except for the main course, dessert was legitimately two bites.
One of the best meals we have ever enjoyed in Boulder. Really unique and flavorful dishes and fun cocktails. Service was outstanding and we loved the space.
Service was good, very attentive. Cocktails and food were very delish. Second time I’ve been and both times were very good. Highly recommend the brussel sprouts.
I found the menu a bit pretentious without a lot of options. There was a steak I wanted to try, but not for the listed price of $75! I found the food, just interesting, not spectacular.
The smashed potatoes were excellent!
My wife and I eat out 3-4 times a week, so it's strange that we haven't visited Emmerson before now. We were there fairly early (6:30) on a Sunday, the day before Christmas Eve. The restaurant, which has a funky interior - and a charming entryway - was fairly quiet, though that may have been due to our timing. It was nice to be able to carry on a conversation, which isn't always the case in some of Boulder's noisier restaurants. My wife started with the dinner salad (okay) and we both very much enjoyed the Foccacia. For our mains, my wife ordered the chicken (and substituted Farmers Greens for the Simple Salad side). She felt the meal was fine, but nothing special. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs, which were excellent - one of the best I've ever had - and I love short ribs. The sides that came with it also were excellent. My wife enjoyed a couple mixed drinks (can't remember which ones) and I had a couple glasses if a nice Cotes-du-Rhone. We didn't have room for desert. The prices for both food and wine are reasonable for Boulder. Bottom line: We enjoyed dining at Emmerson and will definitely consider adding it to our Top-25 list of Boulder area restaurants. If you go, be sure someone tries the short ribs.......
Food lacks proper amount seasoning. Disappointment and dissatisfaction makes the decision to not return a no brainer. Service of waitress is definitely a redeeming factor...she just tried way too hard to up sell food that is overpriced and lacking on portion size and flavor.
Waitress was great and drinks were strong, but just okay in flavor. Don’t get the wings. You’re welcome!
Short ribs were just okay. Spent way too much money to leave dissatisfied. Left this restaurant and went to another for heartier more satisfying portions and flavors. May want to consider going somewhere else. Date was not impressed...at all!
Delicious and creative recipes. This is our new place for a meal and/or drinks when visiting Pearl Street Mall.
We had to wait about 10 minutes before we were provided with water and menus, and it wasn't very busy at the time. Once we were assigned a server, the service was good. The best part of the meal was the Focaccia Bread with Pesto ($8) and the Arugula Pear Salad. The main courses were just ok, not very flavorful, which left a feeling that it was overpriced for what we got. I'm glad we tried Emmerson, but we won't be back - too many good restaurants in Boulder to return for just an "ok" experience.
Excellent food and ambience.
We were a party of four and all four of us found our food to be absolutely wonderful and very creative. In fact, the menu did not do justice to the taste and creativity of the food. Considering it didn't seem to be that busy, we found our service could have been a bit better. Rather slow and did not check back enough. The only other problem we encountered was the temperature. It was a cold night and we sat at a table near the windows and we were all quite cold. I loaned my wrap to my daughter-in-law who wore it through the entire meal and the waitress didn't ask anything about comfort level. Our fault for not speaking up but it should have been apparent that we were all pretty chilly given the coats wrapped around us. We will definitely return because the food is absolutely fantastic.
Chic ambiance, attentive, friendly servers, remarkable food - I had the ricotta toast with poached apples, which was a perfect balance of savory and sweet - exactly what I was looking for! The (two) mimosas were also boozy and delicious!
My first bad review in many years. Smoked salmon appetizer was minuscule / tiny and salmon a bit rubbery (didn’t mention to resturant ). My wife’s kale salad was over salted and inedible (resturant did not charge) my main (ribs) were cold / tepid (I didn’t mention this to server) ... wine selection was good. Lastly, the server was excellent / attentive. Shame the food wasn’t as good.
We especially appreciated the ambiance -- Ben Foote's artistic influence was evident. The genuine small oil lamps are a nice touch. Ditto the artifacts on display in front. Our cute server had a bubbly personality and was very knowledgeable in making her recommendations. The decadent dessert was to die for. We had a most pleasant dining experience and hope to repeat.
We really enjoyed this place. The staff were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable and the food was excellent. There were many great cocktails to try as well as lovely desserts. The environment was unique and interesting, very appealing.
A good restaurant if food is your only concern ! The kitchen knows what they are doing My guests and I tried most of the items on the menu all was delicious. The service ( like most Boulder restaurants) was bad at best. The greeters at the door made it clear we were not their primary concern. Greeting friends and ignoring those they were not familiar with! How do you know your next customer will not be a new friend, regular ! Wait staff seemed confused!
Great food! Consistently delicious. Great service. Energetic without being too loud to talk.
Nice ambiance, but terribly slow service spoiled evening, don’t like waiting 20 mins to get a drink!
Sisters' Sunday Brunch. I Brough my sister here for her birthday. She is a foodie and an interior designer so she has really good taste on all levels. She loved it. Classy & delicious!
The duck was excellent and they have a great drink menu
We have eaten here several times for happy hour and it is quite good
Full disclosure - I also posted a version of this on Yelp. We really felt our evening was ruined by the awful service.
Warning: this is a boring review, but the devil is in the details.
The food and cocktails were actually very good, but, this was quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. We arrived on time for 8:00 reservations, but we weren't seated promptly, despite the fact that there were a number of empty tables, for 15 minutes. But, we were in a happy mood, so wasn't a big deal - at the time. Unfortunately it was a harbinger for things to come. Our seemingly competent, friendly waitress took or drink orders, and then disappeared for 15 minutes to take our food orders, without our drinks, which arrived another five minutes later. If the place had been busy, we would have understood things being a bit slow. First courses were served relatively promptly, and then it all completely fell apart. Main courses took easily 1/2 hour after we finished our first courses. With the exception of someone occasionally filling water glasses, and only then when we flagged them down, the staff, including our waitress, was MIA. And, by this point, the place was practically empty. Based on the behavior of our waitress and the rest of the staff, one can't help but wonder if the owners have given up, as clearly no one in the front of the house cared about anything other than chit chatting in corners, hiding in the bathroom (literally what our waitress did for easily 1/2 hour, who then apologized for "abandoning you") or generally just standing around rather than checking on tables, filling water glasses, clearing finished dishes or cocktails, etc. Because whomever is cooking clearly has talent, I would hope the service issues were an anomaly, but based on how few tables were occupied, I'm guessing the word has gotten out that Emmerson isn't long for this world. Don't waste your money here.
Really excellent food, ambiance and service. Music was a little loud but they kindly turned it down a bit. My new favorite place in Boulder!
it was great!!
Noise level will make me go somewhere else.
The Italian pasta with pepper and cheese was not authentic ... really bad.
I just love this place. Classy yet funky contemporary decor, great service, yummy food... What's not to love?!
Staff was nice but not professional and forgot some orders we made. Food was ok but far from great. Atmosphere was modern but loud.
The duck with the dirty rice was excellent at dinner.
We have also eaten here for breakfast and the yeasty waffle is really great.
Emmerson is high quality, interesting food. I would love for their menu to change soon, as it's been the same for a while. Also, I appreciate live music, but an electric guitar in a place with bad acoustics makes talking impossible. Usually, good service. I will be back.
New but could be the best in Boulder, rivals Frasca and Flagstaff House. Interesting building and creative décor, very good menu, terrific food and friendly detailed service. Good timing between our three courses. One of those restaurants that thinks of all the little things. Our scallops and Halibut were great, nice portions and beautiful. We shared the pavlova dessert which was creative and very good.
Went for brunch...Waited over 50mins for food after order was placed
I don’t know how I can rate this restaurant because after waiting over 45 minutes for brunch, we walked out. We were the second table seated when they opened. The restaurant did fill up quickly but we were ready to order as soon as we say because we had a flight to catch. After over 20 minutes we had to ask the server to take our order. When I ordered my beverage I asked if they had English Breakfast tea and he replied yes. He brought out Jasmine Pearl and argued it was black tea. He then claimed it was some other form of tea which included Jasmine. I am a tea fanatic... It was Jasmine Pearl. He said he was “confused and stressed out.” We watched tables who were sat after us get their food and when we inquired where our meal was, our server replied that he was “working on it.” We gave up and walked out. What a disappointing way to spend our final breakfast with our daughter before we returned home from family weekend.
Great food and awesome cocktails. We loved the decor and music played too. Would definitely recommend
Very cool space and interesting Italian menu. Easy to park in the lot across the street.
Attractive but casual and comfortable environment, friendly service, good food - creative menu using quality ingredients. We will go back.
