We believe in doing things the right way. Not because it’s trendy or cool, but because it’s right. We change our menu with the grow season, supporting our neighbors and the terroir of Colorado. We are not your average Mexican joint, rather a reflection of our environment and beliefs.
We hand make our tortillas every day. All of our pork comes from one whole hog. Our chefs breakdown the whole animal, for chorizo, appetizers, stocks, soups, and entrees. Nothing is wasted. We do this out of respect for the animal and for the people who raised them for us. Anything we can produce in our kitchen is done by us, with love. No frills, just good food.
We do an amazing brunch on the weekends, and by default or menu is nearly 100% gluten free.

Love ElJefe. Johnny and James are always there and take such good care of everyone. The tacos are SOOO good and they make some really creative (and tasty) drinks!
The only reason I rated the ambiance a 4 is because of the mask requirement and the fact that the restaurant was set for social distancing. Not at all El Jefe's fault, just the reality of life right now. Go out and support your local restaurants, or we may wake up one day and they will all be gone!
The staff is attentive and friendly, they checked on us frequently and were always pleasant. The food has consistently been very good as are the drinks!
So amazing, as usual. Service was spectacular. Seatings were well spaced- 50% capacity currently. Food and drinks were expertly prepared. Locally sourced and awesome! Great experience and so fresh! Thank you!!
Outstanding service, outstanding food, outstanding drinks.
El Jefe never disappoints but this time was even more spectacular. The food and drinks were incredible as always but they went above and beyond with their hospitality during covid. We felt super comfortable and they bought us a birthday dessert of fried plantains and ice cream on the house... and make sure to try the new frozen cocktail popsicles. The strawberry horchata was delicious!! Thank you!!!
Wonderful brunch. Sat at an outside table. Waitstaff was great, Felt comfortable ,will go again soon
Food is delicious. Only complaint is the servings are a bit on the small side.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at El Jefe. They did a great job with making us feel comfortable and the food, service, drinks......everything!!......were terrific. We will be going back very soon!
Drinks were great, but a easy way to run up a good tab to. Queso and chips was honestly just okay. A but runny for as thick of a chip as served. Barbacoa tacos were very good, but more high end food truck than traditional barbacoa. Carnitas bowl was very food and well season. Service was friendly and great. Would go again for happy hour or drinks.
Excellent service & food
Love El Jefe!! The staff is so kind and the food is always delicious.
El Jefe is one of our favorite spots. We were able to sit outside at a small cafe table due to social distancing guidelines. Food is always delicious, cocktails spot-on, and friendly staff.
First dine-out experience since covid-19 shutdowns. It was a great experience, I felt very safe and there was plenty of space between other tables being used. The food came very quickly after ordering. The Enchiladas de Mole was delicious, I highly recommend it. Glad we choose here as the first place we went out to after reopening.
Great food and the margaritas were fresh and flavorful. The restaurant is open and inviting but with a casual feel. We will definitely go back!
El Jefe is a great neighborhood restaurant with indoor / outdoor seating where the staff treats you like a local.
Food is always fresh...good value...convenient location. Wish the ambient noise was smaller. Part of a busy bustling restaurant
Fresh food, creative menu, great service! Love it and will be back!
A birthday dinner with the girls. We loved it!
Good food and nice staff, our bill was a little off from prices advertised on menu
Service was so bad. Bottomless drinks consisted of 2 small glasses due to bad service. Bathroom had no toilet paper or soap. Tables were dirty all around us for a long time. Wrote an email to them the next day which never received any acknowledgment.
A fantastic find ! Wonderful atmosphere wonderful drinks, all around great restaurant.... highly recommend!
It was loader than expected for a romantic date
Food was good.
Value was great.
Food was okay. Portions were small for price. We won’t return.
Loved the food & the service was excellent. Wish they hadn’t run out of bitters because we really wanted to try the old fashioned. We’ll definitely be back!
Awesome food, awesome service!! I suggest you make a reservation because they are always busy
Delicious fresh food, wonderful flavors thoughtfully prepared. We're so glad to have discovered this place - we'll definitely be back!
We loved everything, salsas, crab nachos I’m craving right now, the smoky jalapeño margarita was excellent. This restaurant is a hidden gem, go!!
The food was very good however the portions were a little small for the money. Happy Hour offered some good deals and the margaritas were tasty. We will definitely go back.
One of my favorite hidden gems. Authentic food with interesting twists. Amazing spicy marg. Rarely a wait to get in. Love the ambiance.
Delicious fresh food, delightfully surprised by tacos and the Mexican pizza with barbacoa- all super yummy. We'll be back for sure!
Food was pretty good. Our server was not very caring, such as spilling water (and she knew she did) but not bothering to wipe it up. I also found the restaurant quite dark inside, at least where we sat; I actually had trouble reading the menu. Tables were a bit cramped, too, so we could hear conversations from our neighbors on all sides.
Wonderful neighborhood gem!
My sister & I like to try new places for Sunday brunch, and El Jefe came up in a Google search. Definitely not disappointed and I will return for brunch, but I also want to try Happy Hour & dinner.
The fresh made guacamole is SO tasty (a starter option)!
I ate all of my huevos rancheros & tasted the chilaquilles & carnitas & huevos (also very good).
They offer bottomless brunch drinks & the option to switch (which I did after one (1) Bloody Mary). I stuck with the scrumptious sangria as did my sister.
Can't wait to return!
Yes, we have recommended and brought friends several times! Thanks for being a great neighborhood restaurant!
Always delicious with a friendly staff! The Al Pastor was amazing!
We had a great dinner! Our server was attentive. The food was excellent.
This is a nice neighborhood restaurant. Our party of 4 had a great dinner at El Jefe on a friday night. The place was lively but not too loud. We enjoyed the octopus and shrimp ceviche appetizers. We all had tacos and split Mexican lime pie, sweet, and mexican chocolate pumpkin pie-yummy! Great margs too. One of us had the spicy marg and she said it was perfect. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others!
