About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for creative cocktails
Nestled high above LoHi on the fifth floor of 2930 Umatilla, El Five boasts spectacular, unobstructed views of the downtown Denver skyline. The menu is an homage to the Mediterranean and features small plates built on bold flavors found throughout the region: Spain, North Africa, the Middle East.

Inside, the space is understated and sensual, flanked by a large, open-air patio for sun-kissed Colorado nights. As the newest restaurant in the Edible Beats family, El Five celebrates the confluence of flavors, ideas and geographies made possible by a subtle shift in perspective.

Patatas Bravas tasted like frozen potatoes that were fried. Dumplings had little to no flavor. The Rice in our seafood Paella was burnt onto the pan, lacked flavor as well. The chicken croquettes were also not flavorful and the garlic aioli tasted like plain mayonnaise.. Overall food was very bland, server was really nice but a bit pushy on ordering more food. The views, ambiance, and drinks were the best part of this experience. Would not come back again as the value for what you are paying for is not there.

This spot is pretty disappointing. We ordered the burrata (definitely wasn’t burrata and is a salad), the scallops (be forewarned this is a cold vinegar based dish), the albacore tuna (lacked dimension), the sea bass (delicious but tiny portion of fish), the lamb shank (not really how I’d describe it, more of a middle eastern socca wrap preparation), and the hazelnuts (mostly nut and powdered sugar). Proportions for most dishes were way off, skimpy on sauces, and off in the balance of all the flavors on the plate.

We took our friend here to celebrate her birthday and had a wonderful time sharing tapas, drinks, & desserts. The serving staff did a great job helping us surprise our friend and accommodating a last minute add on to the party. I definitely will be coming back for the service and views.

Drew was awesome. He knew the menu and wine list thoroughly, making spot on recommendations. The food was amazing from the spread to the Med to the goat cheese croquettes and the bison meatballs to the shrimp and patatas fritas, finishing with the Lisbon chocolate cake. We were sat on the patio with a terrific view of downtown.

This place used to be great, but last night it just wasn’t. Glassware was dirty, shrimp were overcooked and service was lacking. The view is incredible, and the Mezzy plate and lamb are both delicious. We’ll give it another try and just hope it was an off night, but for the price you shouldn’t have off nights.
