Echo & Rig Steakhouse & Butcher Shop - Sacramento
We put a unique nose-to-tail spin on the traditional steakhouse, allowing diners to indulge in the best cuts of meat for incredibly approachable prices.
A butcher before a steakhouse, we use every part of the animal. We care about every animal - how it lived, what it ate, and how it was cared for.
Our 7,000 square foot space is located in the Downtown Commons Neighborhood (DOCO) in the lobby of The Sawyer Hotel. Situated on the bustling J Street corridor facing the Golden 1 Center main entrance.
We have a versatile space: a private dining room with audio/visual capability, an outdoor patio, and an outdoor bar available for rent.

I took my husband here for his birthday and the entire experience was wonderful. The food, service, wine list, and ambiance we exactly what we hoped for and we will definitely dine here again.
It started off nice with wonderful service. The manager brought out a flowers for me since we were on a date, which was such a nice touch. The waitress seemed to explain our menu very well. This quickly changed when we received our food. The only good thing we ate was the fried spinach salad. We had the Spencer and Bavette as our meat and both seemed overcooked; they were hard to chew and even harder to cut. I personally like beef to melt in my mouth rather than chew on it for 5 minutes and swallow a big lump. It wasn’t seasoned well either (neither was the mashed potatoes) and only tasted okay drenched in the given sauce. We ordered shots which came in a tall glass making it very hard to drink. The server forgot something we asked for twice and stopped checking on us once the place got busy. Overall it was not memorable snd I’m pretty disappointed with the quality of the food for what we were paying.
Amazing food and service. Every course was perfect and our server Kim was very attentive and personable. We will definitely be back!
Echo & Rig is definitely the go to place for steaks and drinks. Great food, staff and ambiance.
Appreciate great and attentive service!
The menu was slightly smaller than I remember, but it had been a couple years since our last visit. Nonetheless, plenty to choose from. We started with a dozen oysters and steak tartare. The oysters were amazing, quite possibly the best I’ve had! I tried the sauce on one, and it was good, but the oysters themselves were too good not to enjoy on their own. The steak tartare was fine, but nothing to write home about and possibly even slightly disappointing compared to other tartare we’ve had. Next was Caesar salad, which was delicious and also possibly the best I’ve ever had. Finally, I chose the Bavette steak with blue cheese sauce and my husband had the ribeye with onion sauce, both cooked medium rare. All was delicious and cooked perfectly! The steaks come with homemade potato chips and a stuffed mushroom. I really enjoyed the chips, the mushroom I could take or leave. Oh! The drinks! My husband ordered an old fashioned and I ordered a cocktail called the Hot Mess. Both fantastic. While the server was super friendly and helpful, service altogether was a bit slow. We likely both would have ordered another drink had someone come by to ask. Overall, a great experience and we can’t wait to go back!
We have been going to Echo & Rigg for a few years now and consider it "our place". We appreciate Kevin the manager and how he makes a point to greet personally every time we are there. And Kim always take such good care of us during our visits there. We are grateful to have been able to resume a "normal" experience since COVID and look forward to many more wonderful dinners there! Food is ALWAYS on point and save room for dessert, thier ice cream options are incredible!
Service was incredibly slow. I was seated at the table for 20 minutes before the waitress even approached. 45 minutes in and I hadn’t even gotten my cocktail. They were out of the cut of steak I initially ordered, and the one I selected as a second choice came out severely undercooked (blue rare, when I had ordered medium rare). The waitress confirmed it was under and sent it back to the kitchen. I needed to ask for water refills and for bread twice before it was brought to the table. The rest of the food and cocktails were tasty, but the slow service and incorrectly cooked steak made the experience lackluster overall.
Service was absolutely lack luster, every steak at our table reminded me of what you'd get at Outback or Black Angus. I had eaten here twice before in 2018/2019 and something has definitely changed, not for the better.
The staff here is so warm and friendly and fun. We would go back just to see Kim again and have fun banter! The food was also absolutely wonderful. Thanks for a great first night out after vaccinations!
Excellent experience! This was my second time dining here and I HAD to bring my husband after my first excellent experience here when I came alone for a solo date. Again, the customer service was absolutely top notch. Everyone (EVERYONE) was so kind and accommodating! Louis is wonderful and does an excellent job of not only keeping up with his cocktails but also checking on his patrons in the lounge, and he knows how to treat his customers. My husband and I already can’t wait to return and we’d love to sit in the lounge again and see Louis. But honestly, every employee I’ve encountered here has had the BEST attitude, and it really made the experience that much more special. And the food... my goodness. Everything was cooked to perfection! We have absolutely no complaints.
Love this place. We go here for every special occasion.
Expected outdoor dining. Indoor dining offered and although i was nervous they had plenty of space between booths. Hard working staff.
My suggestion would be fix the acoustics in the property immediately they’re horrible. Other than that I love your properties both Vegas and Sacramento
Absolutely the best food and value for a high end restaurant in Sacramento. As an avid diner, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Top Notch!!
Love this place. My waitress Kim is amazing! She is super funny and super nice. Such a sweet lazy. Her recommendations are on point with everything. I will definitely come back here
We frequent the Las Vegas Echo and Rig, so we weren't sure it could be equaled. Well, we were wrong. From start to finish we received outstanding service and exceptional food. Kevin, the manager, greeted us right away and we loved that personal touch. The Fried Spinach salad and Brussel sprouts rocked. But, the off menu Porterhouse was the star of the show. You could cut it with a fork. Brian always kept our wine glasses full and gave great recommendations. Goose, the chef at our Vegas location even came out to say hi. Best steak we've ever had and we ate it 2 more times the next day. DINE HERE!
This is my favorite restaurant in Sacramento. Not only is it in one of the most exciting areas of Sacramento. The restaurant itself is very classy, reminds me of NewYork or DC, while the staff is so thoughtful and mindful.... it was our anniversary dinner and they made it very special for us. Thank You Echo & Rig Team
Great food and great service
Great service and delicious food - steaks cooked perfectly
We went their for my husbands birthday, it was good but not 5star. They did gave us a birthday treat at the end which was very special. Will come back when they have full menu option.
Amazing food and service. Great special occasion spot.
Always a pleasure
Food was delicious, service was excellent. We had to eat outside, but they have it covered and it wasn't too bad. We will be back!
Food was great, service was excellent. I had a great time.
Great atmosphere and our server Brian was excellent and very welcoming.
We absolutely loved dinner! Our server, Kim was so friendly and welcoming. Fantastic cuts of meat, great sides and a wonderful wine list
B-day on patio.
Overall Great
Birthday dinner, food was delicious, outside a little cold especially as evening progressed, wonderful dessert surprise for birthday, drinks were inventive and delicious.
We had a really lovely meal sitting on the patio. Both my husband and I are frontline healthcare workers and got fully vaccinated in January, so we decided to splurge at another steak restaurant.
The food is excellent, great ambiance. Kim was our server and she was a rock star.
I would love to see more desserts and dessert wine offered in the future, as I bet they’d nail it.
Love Echo and Rig.
Excellent service, great food, and the bacon washed Old Fashioned was the best I've had!
Love it here!! 4th time here
Our server Brian and every single service staff member in addition to the delicious food was simply amazing!!!
I am an extremely picky Chef who has worked at 30+ corporate restaurants throughout the Sacramento and San Francisco areas in addition to countless privately owned restaurants in Northern California.
The food was amazing but the service from start to finish was award winning. My ribeye was prepared perfectly, the oysters were phenomenal, the flow of service was rare to find and I wish I could say that I have made a ribeye taste that good.
We will definitely be back... Cheers
It was our first time dining at Echo & Rig. We made reservations for 4 and were seated for outdoor dining immediately. There are heated lamps outside and the weather was perfect. Our server was Ryan. He was extremely friendly and helpful and did not judge us on our orders! We ordered oysters and portobello mushroom fries to start with which were very good. We also order drinks: The Pig and the lady which was good and citrusy - not too strong, and the Echo Gimblet - this one was way too sweet and we did not taste the alcohol at all. The entrees and sides were delicious. We ordered garlic mash potatoes which tastes like butter melting in your mouth. The broccolinis were very good. We had the Tomahawk steak and Filet Mignon which were cooked to perfection. The horseradish cream and red wine demi paired very well with the steaks. We didn’t care for the chimichurri sauce. The server was very nice and offered to bring other/additional sauces if we wanted. Since we were celebrating an anniversary and birthday, they brought out complimentary desserts (caramel turtle and berry shortcake) which was a very nice gesture. The staff was extremely friendly and checked on us numerous times and kept our water filled and table cleared. This was our first time here and definitely not our last due to the delicious food and amazing service from all the staff (especially Ryan our server and Anthony who I believe was the wait staff). Also, everyone wore a mask except when seated and eating so we felt very safe.
Ok so food was decent. I will my steak was great I will say. But the service was thee problem! So our waitress Bethany started of on a good note! Then immediately ended there. She attended every table but ours. She came to ask us how our food was upon finishing. She wasn’t there when my husband need something taken back. I just think it’s simply rude of her to ignored us but chat with the other tables around us. I hate to bring race into the equation but that’s how we left feeling. I WILL NEVER DINE HERE AGAIN.
Chris the manager came by and listened to our concerns and took off my appetizer but the feeling we got leaving there was incomparable.
Jessie the busser should be promoted he was such a great help while we were being ignored!
Our table was outside due to Covid, and it was a chilly night, but they had heaters and blankets, which helped. There were some very loud bands performing at DOCO, which made it a challenge to visit.
The food was outstanding, but we were unable to make any substitutions for dietary restrictions (my steak came with chips and mushroom Rockefeller, neither of which I could eat, so I just had them leave them off and ordered a side since I couldn't substitute anything), which was a little disappointing, but still great overall.
Food was great, service was great. Just outside was a little loud
Food and service were great. However the propane heater went out before our entree arrived and the restaurant didn’t have a replacement.
They're doing an amazing job there making it feel like a nice dining experience under current covid limitations. It was a rare date night out for us & we had a wonderful evening filled with great service from all staff we came in (safe) contact with & delicious food. Ambiance with the heaters & set up was perfect. We'll be back again.
Let's face it, outdoor dining during February is a hit or miss. It was pretty darn cold and windy, however the staff did their very best by moving heating lamps around, and even offering comfy blankets. We ended up taking our food to go due to the wind, but it was still delicious. The service was also excellent. This was my first time, and I will be back - hopefully indoors this time!
