Echo & Rig Steakhouse & Butcher Shop - Sacramento
We put a unique nose-to-tail spin on the traditional steakhouse, allowing diners to indulge in the best cuts of meat for incredibly approachable prices.
A butcher before a steakhouse, we use every part of the animal. We care about every animal - how it lived, what it ate, and how it was cared for.
Our 7,000 square foot space is located in the Downtown Commons Neighborhood (DOCO) in the lobby of The Sawyer Hotel. Situated on the bustling J Street corridor facing the Golden 1 Center main entrance.
We have a versatile space: a private dining room with audio/visual capability, an outdoor patio, and an outdoor bar available for rent.
Our first visit to Echo & Rig was a truly amazing experience! Delicious food, fresh high quality ingredients, fast service and amazing ambience.
I usually don't do reviews, but this place was special. Everything from the time I called to make reservations the people that I spoke to were very helpful and pleasant. Our service at the restaurant was A+ and it was so nice to have such a spectacular evening. Our server was great in suggestions on ordering and we loved the fact we could try different plates and share. The food was fabulous and I highly recommend a steak. I usually don't order that, I prefer seafood but because they specialize in their steaks I decided to try. And boy was it delicious. We will be back. Thank you for a great dinner.
I have been wanting to come in for a brunch experience Did not receive the same experience as I do when I come in at night. It was like I ate at a different place not Vip A+ customer service experience I have had in the past.
The best cocktails in Sacramento! A fresh fun spot to get drinks and appetizers for sure. I highly recommend this place.
Service was top notch.
Our experience was fantastic. The ambiance was a little loud and found it hard to hear the person next to you but that really didn't effect the time we had. The food was very well prepared and the manager even came out personally and apologized for a delay in preparing our food. He explained everything and was very honest about it. He accommodated us with a couple of appetizers which were awesome. We will definitely go back!
We always enjoy going to echo and rig for The food and drinks.
Great date night dining experience
Fantastic food, great decor and wait staff. Very loud inside, at least when there’s an event at the Golden 1. For sides the octopus salad and brussel sprouts were must haves. The sausage plate was good but could have had more sausage. The cap rib eye was mouth watering as was the regular rib eye. We had a turtle and apple pie sundae. Both had real whipped cream which is rare. The turtle sundae was something to write home about while the apple pie sundae was a real let down with no much apple flavor. We will go again, but not on a Golden 1 event night.
Our party of 6 loved everything about our evening at Echo and Rig! The service was very friendly and professional! The cocktails and food were amazing! A few of us had different types of steaks, which they loved! My husband said his pork chop was exceptional and one of the best ever! Two of us had sandwiches which were great! Mine was the one with Brie on walnut bread! Super delicious! The location was perfect for a pre-King’s game meal since it’s only about 20 yards from Golden 1!
The food was great! Service was disappointing. We also went on the wrong night it seemed. There was a group next to us and they were very loud - at times yelling.
Incredible food atan International Level. Service is great and the atmosphere is awsome too.
Although the food was great, the portions for the sides are too small and too expensive. Our server Scott is great! 👍🏻
We always enjoy Echo and Rig , It’s our go to special occasion Dining Experience location . The food - the experience - The City - The Ambiance- Every body needs to be spoiled a few days out of the year . We started the new year tonight with a delicious New York Steak and my wife The Rib Eye ! The taste of the Red Oak firewood is smothered throughout the steak . The Service was as usual Excellent . We rang in the New Year at Echo and we Will end it there .
Great food and enjoyed our dinner and drinks!!! Great night out!
Honestly, loved this place my first time there - but this visit, not so much. They were out of the first 2 wine bottle choices, jack daniels and the syrup for one of their signature drinks. We had to repeatedly ask for things and it took over an hour to cook shrimp and scallops. We had a birthday celebration which was completely overlooked and so overall just not what we had envisioned for the evening, very disappointed 😔
Food was amazing and the staff all work together to ensure guests are happy. I will definitely be back.
Echo & Rig is our favorite steakhouse in Sacramento! Our meal on New Year’s Eve was excellent and they never disappoint with their service. We had family unexpectedly join us for our reservation and even on a busy night, they did everything they could to accommodate us! Highly recommend the baked bread Brie and any of their Tomahawk steaks!!
Awesome!! Great food great service!!
Food is always phenomenal regardless of what I have. Love that they don't charge a corking fee too. My go to steak house!
Dinner was to celebrate New Year’s Eve so I expected a lot of diners. I failed to realize that a Kings game was ending at nearly the same time! As a result there was more traffic, both vehicle and foot.
The noise level at the entrance/bar was deafening, my sympathies to the receptionists who had to shout to be heard. There were a lot of hand motions in our conversation when I checked in.
We were placed in the rear of the restaurant so it was quieter but our party still had to speak loudly to carry on our conversation. After we were seated it took a long time to get a waiter to serve us. I noticed another party, who came after us, served before our waiter came to serve our table. The food was very good and was served to us in fairly good time. I would like to return on a night that no special event is happening. We all enjoyed the setting and the servers were all fairly prompt once we were served. Our busboy also took very good care of our party, making sure we had full glasses of water and other beverages, as well as clearing the dishes and silverware.
Overall I would give it an above average score.
We tried Echo & Rig on a recommendation from a friend who has had very good experiences here.
Our evening was New Year’s Eve so as the evening progressed the restaurant became much busier, but at our seating (4:30 pm) our dining area was less than half full. Our server, Liza was great - very outgoing and friendly.
We placed drink orders and waited for aBout 15 minutes for those to arrive. Liza said she would bring bread while we looked through the menu - the bread arrived nearly 20 minutes later.
We started with a crab cake and that came out fairly quickly and was excellent - great flavor, big chunks of crab and a tasty crust.
The menu here has several cuts of steak prominently displayed in the center of the page, implying that it is a speciality of the house. We both settled on the filet, one medium well and the other medium.
And then we wait - another 30-40 minutes go by and finally the meals are served. The steaks are plated with house-made garlic potato chips (very good), and we ordered the garlic mashed potatoes as a shared side.
I touched the center of the steak and could immediately see that it was very rare - a cut through the center confirmed this. Our other steak was in the same condition - very rare not cooked to order.
We sat and ate the potatoes until we could get our server’s attention some 10 minutes later. The steaks went back and now we wait - another 15-20 minutes pass and the steaks return.
The first one now has a blackened, charred end and is burnt beyond being edible. The remainder of the steak was still rare. The second steak was slightly better but still had very rare areas and now having sat and being re-grilled made the exterior tough.
A manager did offer new a steak but our feeling was that they had missed that opportunity by recooking a filet. For a restaurant that seems to position itself as a steakhouse, their kitchen failed miserably. And as a restaurant, they missed the boat on making it right.
Highly recommend this place! Try the fried spinach salad to start.
Delicious food and great service. A bit too bright and loud for a romantic date night but otherwise highly recommended.
Our server, Scott, was great !!!
Extremely loud. Food was overpriced for what we were served, which was rather mundane and uninventive. The interior design was lovely and the service wasn’t bad. They just don’t live up to the hype.
On the recommendation of a friend who dines in Downtown Sacramento often, upon arriving in Sacramento we chose to try Echo & Rig for its very delicious sounding and inviting menu. We had 6:45 PM reservations, requesting a booth for two. We arrived on time and after a short wait were escorted to a booth for 6 persons across from the very bustling and noisy kitchen. We inquired about a smaller booth more towards the front of the restaurant and were told it was reserved for a party of 5. We noted the 5 might be more comfortable in the booth for 6, but were told, No. They were not full and there were plenty of smaller areas available.
Our waiter came over and took our order. One Cesar Salad, the Jumbo Prawns and Rib Eye Cap and a side of Garlic Mash Potatoes. Our Salad came out quickly along with bread and butter. The salad was flavorful and the bread warm.
We proceeded to wait 45 minutes for the balance of our meal. We checked with staff walking by, but unfortunately our waiter was too busy to stop by and check on us. When our dinner arrived the Potatoes were cold, as was the bowl they were served in, the Rib Eye Cap ordered was not delivered. Instead they gave us the Rump Cap, aka Coulette, less flavorful and cold and disappointing. The Jumbo Prawns were delicious and that and the salad was all we ate.
The manager came by to see what she could do. She said they were busy (which they were not especially as the Kings game had not let out), and leaned on our huge booth, I guess trying to intimidate us (it was rude.)
She left to bring us out bill for the salad and the Prawns. The waiter then appeared took out credit card and ran it thru. No apology.
There have to be so many restaurants to go to. Don't waste your money or time there.
My partner and I dined here for Christmas Eve, and it was a great experience. Nice servers, prompt with the food, good was of good quality and we would return here again.
The service and the people make this good restaurant a great restaurant!
We had a wonderful dinner on Christmas eve. The food was delicious and the portions were not too overwhelming. We enjoyed several shared small plates prior to our main dish and loved the variety and portion size - easily shared by our group of 5. My only complaint was that we were seated next to the kitchen and it was very bright. The lighting in the kitchen impacted the ambiance of the dinner. There should be some blinds or shades to limit the lights on the diners.
Food was amazing and the service was superb! We will definitely go back.
This was our fourth time dining here. We went for a Christmas Eve dinner with our daughter and her beau. I have to say Dion, our server, was top notch. Attentive but not intrusive. Always adding a helpful suggestion. We had several appetizers to start. Crab cake - spot on. Portobello fries - pretty good. The Octopus - skip it. Too many beans and not enough Octopus. Steaks were perfectly prepared. Loved the chips. All in all a very good meal and excellent service.
An upscale feel, but a little too over-the-top for my personal preference. Wife had Rib-eye caps steak, daughter had Spencer steak, and I had the Taragon chicken as we were having dinner the next day at another steakhouse. I did however try bites of everyone's steak as well as my own chicken.
The Rib-eye caps steak was hands down the best meal of the 3. My wife asked for it medium and it was a true medium. The meat was tender and flavorful. She add the Brandy Mushroom sauce which gave it even more flavor.
The Spencer steak was ok. It was cooked medium-rare, and done correctly with a warm red center, however it was very chewy and not really tender. The flavor was good.
The chicken was very bland and difficult to get off the bone. It was moist (which isn't easy in chicken), but just had very little flavor.
Over all I would give the food a 7 out or 10, the service a 9 out of 10, and the ambience an 8 out of 10.
Our experience was 5 star! Very evident the standard of service was paramount! Excellent service from the main server to the helpers. Impressed by the way they were focused to ensure we were served at a high level of satisfaction!
We all loved the bone marrow appetizer! Delicious!
We were first to arrive and probably last to eat. Just crazy and we were headed to a game. Very poor service!
Noise level is piercing. But they have the best Maryland like crab cakes.
First time. Food was excellent, portions good, prices reasonable. Restaurant is lovely. Service was a bit lacking. We made our reservations well in advance, requesting a quieter table to accommodate two hard of hearing guests but instead we were seated in a very noisy area. It took many attempts to get a second cup of coffee, and they did not bring us additional napkins with dessert to replace those taken when main meal dishes were cleared (we walked over and got our own at the end of the bar). We would still go back and hope that service improves.
We’ve been here before and it was amazing. This last visit was not ideal. We were celebrating my birthday and had two other couples join us. They had never been and we hyped the restaurant up big time. Unfortunately, the food and service was horrible. It took 20 minutes to get our water refilled. My husbands rib cap was over cooked and my friends tri-tip was undercooked. She asked for them to put it back on the grill and it came back tasting like charcoal. The manager was very apologetic and comped the meals that weren’t favorable. Maybe it was just an off night for the restaurant. We will be back.
Amazing food, great service. Only thing was it’s so loud we felt like we were yelling across the table.
