Echo & Rig Steakhouse & Butcher Shop - Sacramento
We put a unique nose-to-tail spin on the traditional steakhouse, allowing diners to indulge in the best cuts of meat for incredibly approachable prices.
A butcher before a steakhouse, we use every part of the animal. We care about every animal - how it lived, what it ate, and how it was cared for.
Our 7,000 square foot space is located in the Downtown Commons Neighborhood (DOCO) in the lobby of The Sawyer Hotel. Situated on the bustling J Street corridor facing the Golden 1 Center main entrance.
We have a versatile space: a private dining room with audio/visual capability, an outdoor patio, and an outdoor bar available for rent.
Grass Fed Wagyu
red onion, cauliflower, broccoli & chile-lime vinaigrette
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves. I found it strange and unsettling that our waitress had to take the wine we brought inside to open rather that at the table. Especially w covid. The food was good, although I think I wss served a ribeye even though I ordered the New York. Lots of marbling for a New York. Finally, the larger group next to us was extremely loud and seemed not to care that they were bothering other patrons.
The steak was good but not the potato chips that come with. Service was a little slow.
Hands down one of the best steak houses I have been to. Always try the Bavette Steak and Portabello fries. Service is always amazing and very helpful. Great atmosphere.
Went there for my anniversary and the staff was friendly.
We greatly enjoyed our dinner at Echo & Rig! The service, food and ambiance were outstanding. The staff made the dining experience top notch!
60th birthday celebration, and the staff at Echo & Rig made it memorable with fancy little‘extras’ and amazing service!!
Steaks was tough and hard, not moist at all, no flavors to it.
Thought the prawn cocktail was tasty. Caesar salad was good....dressing was a bit off. Wasn't crazy about the ribeye.... apparently rubbed in talo (rendered cow fat) before grilling. Had an unusual taste to it. Service was great! This was my second time at the restaurant and no reason to go back.
What a great spot! Really attentive service. Great food! We enjoyed their craft cocktails as well. The doco courtyard outside had some live music going. Overall good experience.
Food was excellent - service was not. Really enjoyed the Mediterranean sea bass was crispy skin and the oak smoked ribeye cap. Oysters were fresh, veggie and salad sides were also good. Cocktails were not so great, nor did anyone care to ask us about the drinks/food/recommendations after they arrived. Kitchen and food runners were very diligent and kind about dietary restrictions. Distracted, distance and almost absent service made the experience disappointing and doubtful we will return despite the delicious and well-prepared foods.
After posting my review, browsed the other recent reviews and found very similar experiences. Excellent food and subpar service. Especially for a restaurant of this caliber. We, too, waited at least 15-20 minutes before our waitress ever showed up - despite being warmed and kindly greeted by many other people on staff who weren’t serving us or taking orders? Also noted on the reservation that it was a special occasion/birthday and the hostess confirmed this on arrival... yet no effort was made by the staff or restaurant beyond this.
Great food and service! I will definitely be returning.
This was my first visit and I have to say I was quite impressed with the quick and excellent customer service we received. The staff worked very well together and were very tentative. We plan on returning in the near future.
Went for our tenth anniversary dinner and had a wonderful experience! Very careful with Covid precautions. We were welcomed by both managers, wait staff were attentive without hovering. Oysters were fantastic, Brussels sprouts with lemon and pistachios were tasty and steaks were cooked to perfection. The mushrooms Rockefeller were a great addition! Berry shortcake was the perfect wrap up to our meal. This was our second visit and we cannot wait to go back!
We arrived 5min early for our reservation and was seated immediately. However, we sat for another 15min. Without being acknowledged. Servers walked past and tended to other tables, but not one word was spoken to us.
This lack of service is not our first encounter at this restaurant and both times we were seated outside.
For a high end restaurant, the service is severely lacking.
Everything was excellent, we just wished they had kept the brisket grilled cheese on the menu! Thats what always kept me coming back
The food is amazing and the staff there are all helpful and made sure that my party and I were well taken care of!! Would definitely go back!!
We are always amazed with the excellent service! Kim is an amazing server and Kevin one of the managers is always accommodating. One of the few good restaurants in Sacramento
Myself and best friend went for dinner in celebration of her birthday. Every single staff member was kind and engaging. The portions are of great value and the quality is supreme. Each of our steaks were grilled to perfection. The portobello fries were a delightful treat for the taste buds. Our celebration was punctuated with a surprize most delicious dessert offered by the establishment.
Our whole experience was great at Echo & Rig! The food was phenomenal and the service was exceptional. We even had live music nearby which a pleasant surprise. I cannot wait to come back
We had a great time for our first experience at Echo & Rig. The food was delicious, cocktails were tasty, and overall it was a good time. The restaurant manager was actually the one checking in on us and bring drinks, etc. - I can't remember his name but he was wonderful. If it weren't for him, the experience would have been lackluster because our server paid very little attention to us. She came by to take our order, and that was about it. It was strange... But the manager more than made up for it!
We celebrated our anniversary at Echo & Rig for the second year in a row on 10/24/20 and it did not disappoint. In addition to the complementary glass of champagne and desert for our anniversary, the food was outstanding, the service was amazing and everything was perfect. We sat outside on the patio and there was live music in front of Golden One so the vibe was electric. The only change is they are serving the skirt steak during the week only so we couldn't get our favorite, but the ribeye cuts (I got the cap) were excellent and the cap was one of the best rib-eyes I've ever had. Great place, can't wait to go back!
Service was sub par. We sat for over 10 minutes without acknowledgement from the server and to find out the server that walked past our table at least 5 times and didn't acknowledge us was poor customer service. My husband asked how much a premium shot of whiskey was and was told $15 and it was more. I had a drink with Hennessey and most times when restaurants only have the premium Hennessey, they tell you so you're not surprised at the cost and they did not.
Server also recommended another tender cut steak as they were out of the rib cap and ot was tough.
Not got service or value at all!
Our food was delicious. Service was great . We sat indoors which was so nice.
Let’s start with the good. The jumbo shrimp were beautiful and fresh. The bread awesome. The wine list smallish, but well-curated. The meat carefully sourced. The Parmesan cheese on the Caesar’s salad simply great.
Now the not-so-good.
The spice concoction on the steaks was overpowering, and absolutely ruined all the effort they have gone to in sourcing. Truly yucky, as in guzzle water after every bite. I’m sure some chef somewhere thinks he’s created a masterpiece, but it’s inexcusable in a steak place to destroy any hope of tasting the steak.
Next, avoid the “cap” of the ribeye. The ribeye is 12 oz. The cap is supposed to be 8, but could not have been more than 5 oz. Consequently, as often happens with thin steaks, my medium rare came out medium well. It was my wife’s birthday, so I said nothing until the server was clearing plates, where I mention it - to which he replied “Will there be anything else?”
Speaking of birthdays, we were asked if we were celebrating any special occasion. I said yes, a birthday. I don’t know why they asked, since there was no recognition of the fact thereafter.
Next, if you’re going to serve your steaks with potato chips, they better be pretty special. What we got were chips half crispy and half actually chewy. They seriously need to rethink this.
Next. I have a tough time breathing through a mask for an extended time, so I get it, but servers delivering food with masks barely covering their lips, but not their nose kind of defeats the purpose. If that’s a big deal for you, be forewarned.
My wife didn’t say anything until we were in the car which is when I learned she was as underwhelmed by the meat seasoning and leather potato chips as I was. We agreed not to return, at least until they solve some easily solvable problems.
A shame. A beautiful restaurant that simply allowed a rogue chef to ruin great cuts of meat, and to recycle the potato chip idea that was popular a few years ago.
My husband and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary at Echo & Rig and it was fantastic! The manager Jason went out of his way to make sure our evening was perfect. Our waitress, Kim was also amazing and we tried all of her recommendations! We'll definitely be going back!
Great job with all the guidelines
We really wanted to like it and come back, but though food was very good, service was not. We sat down for 20 minutes before a server came over (after I got up and found one). Even then, drinks were late, food was late and not thee right temperature. Dinner ended up being a 2hour+ affair, when it didn't need to be.
To be fair, the manager and the waitress were really nice and apologetic, so no complaints about intent or desire to make it a nice dining experience, but execution is still not there. I will come back and give it another try, mostly because I want to support outdoor dining, especially during these difficult times.
Great food and the manager made us feel important. Very good food
We made a reservation for four people for outdoors four days in advance. When we got to our reservation, they seated us at a large table for six, hardly intimate and inappropriate for a party of four. We asked if they could switch out a square table for two for a circular table for four (offering to move the table for them) and they would not accommodate us, so the rest of the night we had to make due siting five feet apart from each other on a table meant for six to eight people. It was poor planning on their part. The food was good, not great, not bad. The seating experience was deplorable. If making a reservation, I would call in advance to make sure they seat you appropriately, which should not be the case for such an upscale restaurant.
We spent our anniversary here and had a fantastic time! They were very kind to serve us complimentary champagne as well as dessert! Steak and apps were amazing!
Moms 56th Birthday
Most hotel restaurants are mediocre at best, Echo & Rig most definitely was NOT mediocre. They met and exceed all of my expectations. The service was absolutely phenomenal, from the hostess who greeted us, to the bus-boy who brought us water and bread, to our phenomenal server (Elizabeth), we were absolutely blown away with the genuine attentiveness of the staff. The manager even swung by our table and introduced himself, giving that little bit of "VIP" feeling. The cocktails were great, not filled with mixers, but actually had flavor and depth. The food came out in the proper order and at times that made sense. The food was absolutely out of this world. The Spencer Steak was cooked flawlessly medium rare, the brussel sprouts were mind blowing, the Mac and cheese was harty, and the cauliflower was powerful. My only gig would be the desert, we ordered the cookies and milk which came with a chocolate chip sea salt cookie, peanut butter and jam cookie, and a s'mores cookie. All cookies collectively were just okay. The chocolate chip sea salt was the worst of the bunch, it was dense, dry, and flavorless. I'm not sure if they were overcooked or if it was the end of the day, but they were not at the level of the rest of the food. All in all, this is a deserving restaurant of 4 solid stars and could be 5 if they dialed in their desert like their main courses.
Accommodating, communicative & inviting
The best part was our server Kim, service is everything, she suggested the good stuff and we tried it, the food was good, I wouldn’t cry if I couldn’t have it, but I will say the pork belly burnt ends, Portabella fries and oysters were the best... I would go back for just that alone ...
Really amazing steaks, sides and bar drinks! I had the ribeye and a lemon drop and they were both amazing and cooked to perfect temperature. Our server Kevin was amazing. Super attentive and willing to have fun with us which is always something I look for. I will definitely be back!
First night of indoor service.
All staff were friendly but meticulous about distance and cleanliness.
Our server was friendly and put us at ease about dining indoors in the new COVID reality.
It was nice.
Kevin and his team are incredible - from reception to dessert, they ensured the night was one for the books. Food was great and drinks were on point - highly recommend.
After we were seated we were given menu's that were very limited compared to the menu online. The server told us that the menu will be limited until the restaurant is open for indoor and outdoor operations. This was a huge deal breaker for us as we were looking forward to the lamb porterhouse chops we saw on the menu online. We really didn't care for the steak or seafood that was on the menu. We ordered Portobello Fries, Thick-Cut Bacon, and Brussel sprouts along with the shrimp entree. The ship came really salty and the brussel sprouts were not crispy at all. We've been to Echo & Rig several times, the first time I have sub-par food, really bad experience.
Once again, another excellent dinner. They didn’t have a drink menu but were able to make drinks we found on their Vegas menu. Delicious.
My friend had the shrimp and artichokes that looked amazing. She devoured them in seconds. I had the rib-eye cap. It was cooked a little under what I wanted but was fantastic nonetheless.
We also ordered a bunch of sides (bacon, cauliflower, Brussels and Mac-n-cheese). The cauliflower was of course the favorite and the Mac-n-cheese was a pass. Going to stick with the veggie sides next time.
