Echo & Rig Steakhouse & Butcher Shop - Sacramento
We put a unique nose-to-tail spin on the traditional steakhouse, allowing diners to indulge in the best cuts of meat for incredibly approachable prices.
A butcher before a steakhouse, we use every part of the animal. We care about every animal - how it lived, what it ate, and how it was cared for.
Our 7,000 square foot space is located in the Downtown Commons Neighborhood (DOCO) in the lobby of The Sawyer Hotel. Situated on the bustling J Street corridor facing the Golden 1 Center main entrance.
We have a versatile space: a private dining room with audio/visual capability, an outdoor patio, and an outdoor bar available for rent.

We had a great experience from the moment we walked to the time we left. The service was outstanding and the food was even better. We had shared the Caesar salad, pork belly ends and Spencer steak with blue cheese sauce. Unfortunately we were so full, we couldn’t order dessert. The prices were great and totally worth it. We felt very taken care of.
Service was terrible. Waiter spilled water on my. Cesar was blah! Steak was burnt charcoal tasting. Didn't finish dinner - paid our bill and left. Worse meal I have had in years! Manger not paying attn - no one paying attn.
Our server Bryan Corse was amazing!!!!!! He was super knowledgable about the menu and had great suggestions. He was also very attentive and made us feel welcome and valued. We will definitely be back and will ask for him.
“Energetic” is not my word to describe noise level - it was loud and annoying. For as hard as it appeared wait staff was hustling, it took over 30 minutes to get our cocktails. All food service was sloooow. Mushroom soup was flavorful but warm, not near hot. Side dish of cauliflower was interesting and very good, and I’m no fan of cauliflower! It was comp’d due to other delays. Nice touch to have bread served which has not been our experience with most restaurants during COVID. Food was fine otherwise but nothing to justify a return visit. My wife and I agreed - nothing special and won’t return.
Our waitress and all service staff made our first time at Echo & Rig an absolute pleasure! Every single thing ordered was delicious and prepared so well. Can’t wait to go back :)
Kim is the best waitress ever!!
This restaurant was fantastic. The food, the service, the ambiance was all perfect. The steak selection was superior and the rib eye cap just melted in your mouth.
Amazing service and food! Went here with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was super friendly and on top of everything. The food was a good portion and super tasty and high quality. Highly recommend this place!
Great food, service and location. We will be back!
Love the food. The staff was great. Why 3 stars? #1. We realize the pandemic is altering things. But we didn’t understand why every reservation for 1.5 hours ended up in the back of the restaurant? Walking past open tables that are okay to sit in on the way in and after two hours of dining. Our table was dry. No pictures on the walls. We got the feeling of a banquet hall. #2. The waiter was told by the chef to come get the rest of our order. We share everything and plot along according to how hungry we are. When we were forced to order our entrees, we said “Time it out”. That didn’t happen. Our entrees came and we hadn’t finished either appetizer or our salad. #3. The wine is warm- All the wine. When I said something, Someone actually brought back the same glass of wine but chilled to 75 degrees. Down from 80. The potential is there because food is great. But outdoor seating would be nice and a few nips and tucks here and there.
Food and service was amazing! Can't wait to go back.
Service was amazing. The staff are all very attentive to the diners. Food quality was just ehh. My mac n cheese was bland and had almost no flavor and my steak was served with potato chips. For $45 and no veggies or other side I’d at least expect the steak to be seved with mashed potatoes, particularly since there was no vegetable, so too be served along side bland potato chips was quite disappointing.
The food was delicious and the service was great Kim our server was excellent
Perfect experience. Food was amazing. Service was excellent. Can’t wait to go back.
Large portions of outstanding food. Server Brian was attentive and helpful; based on his pairing suggestions, there is no doubt he could vastly improve the anemic wine list. Disappointed that they had “just ran out” of Bernaise sauce (a scratch kitchen should have butter, eggs, and the few other ingredients on hand). To ensure we had outdoor seating, we made our reservation weeks ahead of time and the first-available for the patio was at 8:30pm. The afternoon of the reservation, they called to say they are short-staffed and can seat us only indoors (yet couldn’t accommodate us for an earlier time, either). I phoned several times the weeks leading up to the evening to confirm the outdoor seating; the promised call back from a manager never came. Lastly, some acknowledgement of our anniversary would have been nice. At most places where we spend $100+/pp, they at least say “Happy Anniversary!”
Was hoping for dry aged tomahawk steak. Steak was good but would have been better dry aged. Service was great, very attentive. Our table never wanted for a thing. I found the hostess on the phone a bit unhelpful when I called with a special situation but it wasn't a deal breaker. All in all a good birthday celebration for my son's 27th.
Amazing food, service, and ambiance! Our server Zach went above and beyond to make sure we had an excellent meal
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary. Service was great, food was great, ambiance was great. It was our 4th time eating at Echo and Rig and we’ve had nothing but great experiences.
Delicious dinner and special birthday feast! Excellent service and fresh, tasty fare. Good sips
The main course was amazing. Loved it. The steak tartare was good but the bread was burnt like something over open fire and tasted like charcoal, maybe that’s how it’s suppose to be. The service and experience was great but after having our table cleared, our crumbs were left on the table. I’ve been to non fancy restaurants that come by with crumb comb and clear off the table for you. Nothing fun about sitting at a dirty table finishing your drinks. The wagyu steak was to die for. The filet mignon was delish as well.
That’s my .02 cents.
Great food, always get the Tomahawk! Great sides and cocktails.
The drinks were fabulous and creative, but my steak was over cooked and not of the highest quality in my opinion. The Brussel sprouts were not very tasty at all and did not compliment my filet mignon. I would return, but only for drinks and appetizers.
Friendly, attentive, and informative wait staff. Exceptional food. Highly recommend and is now in the fave list.
Dinner was great! We had 2 servers and they were both very professional. Great service. Food was absolutely delicious. Ambiance could have been a little better. Too bright and was a little loud.
I took my husband here for his birthday and the entire experience was wonderful. The food, service, wine list, and ambiance we exactly what we hoped for and we will definitely dine here again.
It started off nice with wonderful service. The manager brought out a flowers for me since we were on a date, which was such a nice touch. The waitress seemed to explain our menu very well. This quickly changed when we received our food. The only good thing we ate was the fried spinach salad. We had the Spencer and Bavette as our meat and both seemed overcooked; they were hard to chew and even harder to cut. I personally like beef to melt in my mouth rather than chew on it for 5 minutes and swallow a big lump. It wasn’t seasoned well either (neither was the mashed potatoes) and only tasted okay drenched in the given sauce. We ordered shots which came in a tall glass making it very hard to drink. The server forgot something we asked for twice and stopped checking on us once the place got busy. Overall it was not memorable snd I’m pretty disappointed with the quality of the food for what we were paying.
Amazing food and service. Every course was perfect and our server Kim was very attentive and personable. We will definitely be back!
Echo & Rig is definitely the go to place for steaks and drinks. Great food, staff and ambiance.
Loved the menu and our server. Recommendations from him were great. The ambiance of the restaurant was so nice. Definitely going to visit again!
Appreciate great and attentive service!
The menu was slightly smaller than I remember, but it had been a couple years since our last visit. Nonetheless, plenty to choose from. We started with a dozen oysters and steak tartare. The oysters were amazing, quite possibly the best I’ve had! I tried the sauce on one, and it was good, but the oysters themselves were too good not to enjoy on their own. The steak tartare was fine, but nothing to write home about and possibly even slightly disappointing compared to other tartare we’ve had. Next was Caesar salad, which was delicious and also possibly the best I’ve ever had. Finally, I chose the Bavette steak with blue cheese sauce and my husband had the ribeye with onion sauce, both cooked medium rare. All was delicious and cooked perfectly! The steaks come with homemade potato chips and a stuffed mushroom. I really enjoyed the chips, the mushroom I could take or leave. Oh! The drinks! My husband ordered an old fashioned and I ordered a cocktail called the Hot Mess. Both fantastic. While the server was super friendly and helpful, service altogether was a bit slow. We likely both would have ordered another drink had someone come by to ask. Overall, a great experience and we can’t wait to go back!
We have been going to Echo & Rigg for a few years now and consider it "our place". We appreciate Kevin the manager and how he makes a point to greet personally every time we are there. And Kim always take such good care of us during our visits there. We are grateful to have been able to resume a "normal" experience since COVID and look forward to many more wonderful dinners there! Food is ALWAYS on point and save room for dessert, thier ice cream options are incredible!
Service was incredibly slow. I was seated at the table for 20 minutes before the waitress even approached. 45 minutes in and I hadn’t even gotten my cocktail. They were out of the cut of steak I initially ordered, and the one I selected as a second choice came out severely undercooked (blue rare, when I had ordered medium rare). The waitress confirmed it was under and sent it back to the kitchen. I needed to ask for water refills and for bread twice before it was brought to the table. The rest of the food and cocktails were tasty, but the slow service and incorrectly cooked steak made the experience lackluster overall.
Service was absolutely lack luster, every steak at our table reminded me of what you'd get at Outback or Black Angus. I had eaten here twice before in 2018/2019 and something has definitely changed, not for the better.
Made a reservation 3 weeks in advance.. when we arrive we are told the restaurant was booked out for a private event, we would be seated outside, and someone should have called and notified me. I was never notified otherwise I would’ve gone elsewhere. Once the sun went down it was windy so all the food got cold a few minutes after being placed on the table. Nothing like rushing to eat a $60 rib cap and sides before the fat hardens over. Not a good experience
The staff here is so warm and friendly and fun. We would go back just to see Kim again and have fun banter! The food was also absolutely wonderful. Thanks for a great first night out after vaccinations!
Excellent experience! This was my second time dining here and I HAD to bring my husband after my first excellent experience here when I came alone for a solo date. Again, the customer service was absolutely top notch. Everyone (EVERYONE) was so kind and accommodating! Louis is wonderful and does an excellent job of not only keeping up with his cocktails but also checking on his patrons in the lounge, and he knows how to treat his customers. My husband and I already can’t wait to return and we’d love to sit in the lounge again and see Louis. But honestly, every employee I’ve encountered here has had the BEST attitude, and it really made the experience that much more special. And the food... my goodness. Everything was cooked to perfection! We have absolutely no complaints.
Love this place. We go here for every special occasion.
Expected outdoor dining. Indoor dining offered and although i was nervous they had plenty of space between booths. Hard working staff.
