Eating House 1849 at the International Market Place
It’s here that award-winning Chef Roy Yamaguchi blends these two worlds: the easy ambiance and simple flavors of a plantation town with the dynamic modernity of haute cuisine.
I love this place! Each dish I have ever had is a stand-alone winner. Great flavors, execution and presentation. The waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable. The ribs were out of this world. The desserts...all great! Will be back here again and again for sure.
First time eating here and we enjoyed our visit. We will visit again.
This place never disappoints. One of our favorites!
We had a very enjoyable time. Happy hour was such a great deal that we stuck around for dinner. Thanks again!
Thanks for joining us JeromePM. We started a late night happy hour as well on Monday and Wednesday from 9-10:30. Come back and see us
I went for happy hour. Small but nice local beer selection and good price at $5. Also had interesting looking cocktails at good price. Had the tofu noodle plate which was decent size and good but spicy. Was not listed as spicy. Other dishes looked decent size.
Thank you for joining us Cynthia. We hope to see you soon!
Ordered steak with two sides. One side was inedible. The steak was rare when I ordered medium and quite tough. Disappointing for price point and reputation. The night before I ate at sister restaurant Roy’s Waikiki which was excellent.
We had the special kamayan family style meal. Lots of food, good menu. Good service. Kinda expensive at $65 per head. But good tastes.
We wanted to love it, but unfortunately it was a disappointment. Making the reservation for a large party was no problem with Open Table, however, once we got there, it wasn’t what we were expecting.
The service was slow - but it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was crowded.
Steak: the steak was smaller than expected, considering the price. The flavor wasn’t anything special.
Lamb: huge disappointment! Almost the whole thing was fat. I wish I took a picture of how much was left on the plate.
For the price we paid we were completely dissatisfied. No one in our party wants to go back...
Food wasn't as good as I would have expected.. except for the Ahi. That was sublime. but the rest? meh. Prawns were dry and salad was nothing special esp for the price
One waitress was nice but the server was gruff
Our family was really looking forward to dining at The Eating House. We have visited the restaurant in Kauai and loved the whole experience. I have to say that the food was delicious! The service was friendly and efficient! The ambiance and atmosphere were just ok. It was a cold and rainy evening, yet the fans were blowing full blast. The hardest part about this experience was that we were seated right in front of the live musician. He was very talented and we liked the music, but to be placed directly In front of him made it hard to carry on a conversation. We asked to move, but were not accommodated. Other than the cold temperature and the loud music, we enjoyed our experience.
A delightful meal and lovely service
Our server Thea made our last evening in town wonderful with her warmth and attention. We come several times a year and try to visit Eating House each time. We will definitely ask for Thea!
Top floor of mall, nice, tropical, open air. Noodle dish on menu said with veggies, then came with pork. We pointed out to server, but we were still charged.
Celebrated Valentine’s Day here. Waitress was wonderful, food was delicious. I ordered flat iron scallops and pineapple martini, perfect!
Unimpressive overall, though the brussels sprouts and cauliflower dish was surprisingly good.
The servers were great! The live music was great. The atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful. The food was great, but I thought the drinks could be bigger. Making a reservation through the app was easy. The day of the reservation, the restaurant called to confirm the time. We arrived about 20mins early, and the staff was able to accommodate us. I would recommend eating here!
The food was delicious. The staff was very customer service friendly. The singer was awesome. It was a great night out. One problem. We may have missed it but I don't think so. My daughter ordered prawns. When she got them, there was meat in her pasta and she doesn't eat meat anymore. There should have been something that said her pasta would be cooked with meat.
Great as usual. Will be back again.
Great place for our valentines dinner with friends. Wait staff were terrific and made it fun
We were celebrating my birthday & our server brought us salted Carmel cheesecake. My husband usually doesn’t like cheesecake, but said it was the best he’s ever had.
Good very good great!!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere! There are SO many restaurant choices in Honolulu/Waikiki making it challenging to decide on where to go. Eating House is located in the International Marketplace which is quite commercial but uniquely Hawaiian in flavor. For one thing, it is built around a huge Banyan tree “system” which is remarkable in itself. If you like shopping, there are a myriad of shops, several high end, in this place. The Eating House 1849/Waikiki is located on a floor dedicated to restaurants and it has a portion allowing for the open air atmosphere typical of the Island experience. The menu choices all reflected Hawaiian/Asian cuisine and ours, paella and butter fish, were wonderfully delicious, well prepared and delightful. The service was great, as mentioned. Though a bit pricey, it was not any more so than any other quality restaurant or service in Hawaii. We loved it! Oh, BTW, a good bar, too.
A place to make great memories with family and friends. Service, food, friendliness always impressive!
Having eaten at the Poipu/Koloa outpost of Eating House 1849, and having liked it, we made reservations at the International Marketplace location on Waikiki. I did not check the menu. BIG mistake. It was totally different than Koloa, and not in a good way. One of us had the Ora King Salmon on soba noodles. The soba noodles tasted like they just came out of the fridge, and the salmon was lukewarm. It also had a fishy taste. Our local fishmonger at home sells an Ora King that smells like the sea - briny, clean, and fresh. The skin was soggy, not crispy though supposed to be seared. We also had a chop salad (shared) that was so-so at best. My chicken leg, deboned, was just OK - but I was not a fan of the charred coconut. I think they're probably hitting a different demographic here than in Koloa. Whatever it was, I wouldn't return.
Ate here for the first time for my Dad’s birthday. We had a great meal. Service was excellent.
The food was wonderful and service was great!
Ordered a Martini up and it was served in a champagne glass, unacceptable to me.
Food and Service was good.
Was surprised to discover that Happy Hour only applied to bar seating.
Ribs were great but chicken lumpia were tasteless.
My two guests enjoyed their loco moco and ahi tataki salad. I was disappointed with my donburi with pork belly. The pork belly was very rubbery and difficult to eat. I prefer ones that is soft and tender. I like the other items in the bowl. I go to the original Roys few times a year so I generally set the standard of food based on Roys at Hawawii Kai quality.
Food, service, ambience was exceptional.
Really enjoyed this place! Celebrating wife’s birthday; had a great time. She enjoyed the special treat and attention to detail, and great service. Ambiance was nice energy, not to hyped! The food we all had was great! Hope to go again while here... Great wine, the Prisoner was spot on!
We had a reservation and still had to wait, they said to set up the table. Finally we were taken to a room filled with empty tables all already set up for service, so not sure what they were talking about. Took forever to get drinks, got my second glass of wine after the meal was over. Food was OK. The chef should come eat at his establishment to find out how mediocre it is. Would not recommend and don’t understand the high rating. We enjoyed Mahina & Suns much more the night before. Go there instead if you can. House without a key was also good. Mahalo.
As a local, we hardly eat in Waikiki...but our friend from Seattle wanted to sample local foods. Everything was great...the food was really delicious, although we were disappointed in the small poi (was very grainy) served with the pipikaula...didn't actually represent a good sample of poi. Other than that small item, all the dishes we ate were very good. Serve was excellent, even when we had sort of outstayed our welcome. We were there from 5 - 7:30pm, still the servers were very hospitable. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family...Good job to all...!!!
Great spot - great food. We had a table that was on teh end and we kinda felt like we were in teh parking garage, but other than that it was great
The ambiance was the perfect outdoor, after work setting. The vibe was chill and relaxing and the service was excellent - professional and friendly. We were unexpectedly treated to live music that evening and the singer was fantastic! Thank you for a great experience! We will definitely be back and tell friends to go to Eating House!
Waitress had excellent food recommendations, service was attentive and not rushed. Great Hawaiian food, would return
Average bland food and average service. Is next door to a car parking building so was quite noisy
We stuck to appetizers and salads and had a terrific meal with the help of our server who sequenced the dishes perfectly
The small plates recommended by the server were good choices: ribs, wings and calmari. He also recommended the burger and the grilled cheese. We chose otherwise, since we were in a seafood mood. The donburi with salmon and pork belly were deemed “okay” by my wife; however, the donburi included a few tasty morsels of veggies (pickled red cabbage, lentils, mushroom and others) lining the periphery of the bowl, which made the dish more interesting and tasty for me after I’d scarfed the down the delicious and crispy grilled salmon.
Nice but outdoor atmosphere guitar guy was kind of loud and staff seem preoccupied with the people they knew better
