Had to wait for awhile even with a reservation. Due to the busyness, service and food was slow. We were sat upstairs which was calmer. But, our drinks both spilt as they were carrying them up the stairs. The glasses were wet and sticky and we didn’t get the full drink.
I would be willing to bet that the atmosphere and service is better when there isn’t a large event going on at the Sprint Center.
It was very busy due to the KU game at the Sprint Center close by but we were seated about 15 minutes after our reservation time which was fine but we also got there about 20 minutes before and were still seated late. The server was just awful, we tried to give him the benefit of the doubt because it was busy but he asked for our drink order and didn’t even ask the whole party just 3/4 then walked away. I ordered a drink and watched it sit at the bar for about 15 minutes before I went to the bar and asked the bartender if it was mine and took it. Took forever to get the order in because we never saw our waiter. Our food was good but the service just kind of ruined the experience.
Great place our go to place when we are in Kansas City
Exceptional service, food, and atmosphere. We will be back!
Food was great. Service was good. Overpaid for what I received but overall it was still a good experience.
Great service, great recommendations, great sushi!
The service at the table was great, it was getting seated and waiting 20minutes past the reservation time that was irritating. They were very busy because on a Black Friday coupon promotion, which was the reason we went. But we didn’t even end up using our coupon when it came time for the bill. The waitress was great! The noise was a little too much, but the whole upstairs looked empty :(
Food was great, server had a good wine suggestion that paired well with the food. Serving sizes are generous.
For reasons I don’t understand, the restaurant incorrectly reported to Open Table that we were no shows for this reservation. Food was good and server was excellent, but I’m not happy about being accused of not honoring my reservation. And then being asked to do a review on a restaurant that I supposedly no-showed? Makes no sense.
We had a reservation and it took us about 20 mins to be seated so we went to the bar. The bartender took forever to even acknowledge us and when I was finally able to order he was very rude and only allowed me enough time to say one drink before running away (we wanted to order 3 drinks). Once seated, our server was very distracted and a bit rude. Our appetizers took over 30 minutes to come out. I was a bit embarrassed as I chose the location for my friends that were in town and it was not a good experience. Overall, the food was about average with the exception of the calamari.
Great food , perfect place for a date night . We were able to walk to the Sprint Center after dinner for our concert.
The drunken fish is a great place to go either with friends or on a date. They have signature sushi rolls that are so amazing! Plus, I tried one of their signature handcrafted cocktails and it was amazing as well! They brought our food out pretty quickly and the waiter was super friendly.
We sat upstairs so it was quiet. We were pre-Symphony pops, so we were ahead of the crowds. Initially it was too cold upstairs, but after several requests someone did turn off the air. The food was good, but one member of our party ordered a martini. She did not ask for a “dirty” one, but that is what they brought and it was undrinkable! She returned it but it was on the bill until it was questioned. We have been to Drunken Fish before and it was better then.
The cocktail menu needs some work.
They also ran out of the lobster tail spring rolls which was very disappointing but other than that it was a nice place.
Love Drunken Fish KC! Food was great. Prices are reasonable. Our service was spectacular. Things started roughly when they planned on seating us at a high table. We don't like them so I asked about a low table. The answer was to seat us at the sushi bar. I'm thinking 'Really? Why did I make reservations?' Fortunately another hostess interceded and sat us at a table where we had a wonderful server. Kenzie left us wanting for nothing. Polite, courteous, prompt and just an absolutely delightful young lady. She saved the night for us.
I highly recommend Drunken Fish in KC.
There are many great sushi bars in KC. This is not one of them.
The sushi is great and good atmosphere. Service was good also.
Was in town for a conference, chose Drunken Fish for dinner. Great experience, great food, great staff, and great location downtown. Will return next visit.
Service was non-existent; drinks were wrong - our party of 6 probably would’ve ordered 2 drinks more each but were given no such option. Most of the sushi rolls contained crab - we explained that one of the guests in our party had a shellfish allergy and needed the rolls on separate platters to be clear - our order was just dumped on the table. Asked for additional wasabi and ginger - it was brought afterwe were completely done eating. Tried to order additional rolls but could t find our waiter - ordered them from a waitress from a different table.
Excellent food (particularly the lobster spring rolls) and the sushi is very good. A bit pricey but the outdoor seating is fabulous and service was exceptional. Ideal for special occasions - before a show or with a group of friends.
Great atmosphere, great food, perfect spot if you love sushi for a date.
We started out wanting to go to the rooftop bar, but it was too cold and a little early for everyone else. We would have been the only people up there. Not the restaurant’s fault, so we went back down to have dinner. It was technically still happy hour and the sign said they had 50% off of 26 items, but what were they? We found it annoying that nothing told us what the items were.
We ordered the Lobster Spring Rolls and they were magnificent...especially the sweet wasabi sauce that came with it. For dinner we had the California Roll (awesome), the Mango Roll (also awesome) and the WonderWoman Roll (unique and crisp—wrapped with cucumber strips rather than rice). We asked for extra ginger and wasabi. The wasabi was $.50 more—not a big deal, but the server still should have told us. Dessert was Strawberry Cheesecake Makimono and it was delicious!
The thing that really bugged us was the grossly, over-priced drinks. We both ordered Moscow Mules. The bill had a charge for the mules and another charge for the Tito’s. What was that? Plus it was simply over-priced to the point of ridiculousness.
Our server was good, but I do think she should have directed us to the happy hour specials. Also, if you go for happy hour, the 50% is not good at the rooftop bar.
We were seated 30min after our reservation time. Our waitress was great. Room was too loud to have a conversation in.
Absolutely love the food but the noise level is deafening. Not a great atmosphere for date nights.
Our waiter, Taylor, was so attentive and the food was amazing!!!! First time to dine there but it won’t be the last!
The service was a lot faster then I thought it would be because they were pretty busy. The food was good, fresh sushi.
I have been to Drunken Fish many times, often before shows at the Sprint Center or Midland, as was the case on this visit. One of the reasons I like DF is the availability of outdoor dining. Service was pretty good, although the bar must have been incredibly backed up around the 7pm timeframe. I think this is a solid sushi spot but I wish they would learn how to execute more smoothly and efficiently when they are busy. It's not a surprise when there is going to be a rush of people and this has been a challenge on a few occasions. Also, DF could use a refreshing deep clean. It smells like old restaurant inside.
Took 15 min to get drinks and 18 min for our order to be taken. From there it went more smoothly.
Fun times out in P&L.
We received "fake" salmon this time around. All of the other food was excellent. But the nigiri we ordered was very obviously not salmon. They probably ran out, but still.. at a high-end place you hate to see that.
The food is good but a little overpriced IMO. Although, you are right there in the middle of the city so I guess you pay for the location as well.
The seating doesn't offer any privacy though, kind of an open room concept.
Love Drunken Fish always good. Everyone enjoyed.
It’s slways a pleasure to eat at Drunken Fish at Power and Light, yummy food, great service and atmosphere!
Excellent as always! Beautiful presentation and great service. Everything was delicious! I recommend the bloody mary!!!
Got there 5 minutes early with at least half the restaurant still open yet they refused to seat us until right at our reservation time. Once sat the waiter immediately asked what we wanted to drink and when we told her we needed a few minutes to look at the menu she sighed and asked “do you want water? Or soda?” We told her we were going to look over the wine list for a minute and then we’d be ready. It took her 20 minutes to return and in the meantime she got the two tables next to us 2 refills of drinks while not evening making eye contact with us. When I finally asked her if we could order she brushed us off another few minutes and finally stopped at our table and we ordered our drinks and food as we’d had time to figure both out. It took another 20-30 minutes to get our drinks (a glass of wine and a carafe of sake...not difficult) meanwhile she was still refilling the drinks of people next to us quite frequently.
The sushi came out and two of our four rolls were rolled very loosely and easily fell apart when picked up with chopsticks.
Will not be returning because the service was so appalling. Would not recommend to friends—if you’re looking for sushi, head down to Nara which is just down Main Street. Much better service and good sushi.
Had to wait an additional 30 mins even with a reservation. Once we got our table the wait staff was slow, took down our orders wrong, and had an attitude. Would not recommend.
We took our 15yo and a friend here before a concert for a quick dinner. Lots of energy and people whizzing by, fast paced and kind of loud. Not great for relaxing or conversation, but the food was very good. There was a gluten free menu. The sushi rolls were large and more than enough to share. Nice list of sake.
We had reservations at 7:30 on a Friday night. We arrived to people waiting everywhere, unbussed tables throughout, and a staff that appeared to be clueless with a general absence of purpose. The place was frankly a mess
We were finally seated after I asked the hostess about our rez. We waited almost 30 mi minutes.
The end bar was stacked with dirty glasses and I didn’t see a single person.
Our waitress was great, but you’re only as good as your backup. The kitchen was extremely slow. Food was good but not great 2.5 hours before we were finished.
Our server sent the Manager over who apologized and told us “new owners”. He did not offer any comps.
Not headed back anytime soon.
Saw the waitress 20 minutes into the reservation. Got drinks 40 minutes into the reservation. Walked out at 70 minutes. Talked to manager and she wasn’t surprised by our experience. Restaurant appears to be struggling.
It took 15 min before someone came to take our drink order. 30 min to get water. Drinks came 45 min after we ordered. And, the food never came. Waited 1.5 hours and never got our food. Nobody wanted to help or make it right and when I called the manager the next two days to let her know the issues she never called me back. NEVER AGAIN!
