Overall good experience and good price, I think I just didn’t enjoy what I picked, I think the food is probably great, wine was good
Great food, great service. Will definitely be going back.
Noise level a bit high but great pizza and service. Overall great experience
Great pasta and pizza
Had a wonderful dinner last Saturday. Started with with a soft shell crab appetizer, which was fresh, light the bufala mozzarella was fresh & was a wonderful medley with the tomato & basil. Chose some nice reds to accompany dinner. Dessert was cappuccinos with biscotti. Lovely all the way around and we’ll definitely be coming back.
Hanno messo la panna nella carbonara 🙈
Come dice un saggio della cucina “Nella carbonara, non c’è la panna, non c’è la panna! Hai capito??!!?”
The four entrees we ordered were absolutely horrible. I was so disappointed since the restaurant came highly recommended.
We didn’t eat much of the food and the waiter didn’t even comment/ask about our experience even after clearing our table within 15 minutes of being served.
We didn’t want to say anything because we were celebrating a special occasion with out of town guest. In hindsight, a conversation with the manager should have taken place.
Our favorite go to- quick and delicious food, warm atmosphere. Totally authentic. Please don’t close!
First of all, the building is darling, the atmosphere is wonderful, the servers and manager are 5 star, maybe 6 star!
The food was not as spectacular as I was expecting - given that the sister restaurant is my all time favorite place (Vinoteca Poscol).
I am not going to write it off, I will however ask the server what to order since I must have chosen the wrong things.
We started with a special appetizer described as Fresh fig, with Prosciutto and Arugula. There was one fig. If you list fig first, please let fig dominate the plate. There was a lot of Prosciutto and a lot of arugula. And one little pet peeve of mine, we asked for bread to go with this dish. The bread finally came after we had already finished everything on the plate, and then we were charged for it. Please, waitstaff, if a guest asks for something, and there is a charge, make sure they know it. Most restaurants, including Vinoteca Poscol, serve bread for free. We were shocked to see the $4 charge for bread, that btw, we didn't eat, because it came so late.
Next, Calamari with orange and mint - this is a cold salad-style dish. What an amazing flavor combination. The calamari was a bit on the chewy side, but I loved this dish.
Tallegio, Arugula and Pear Pizza with Truffle Oil. We asked the server to eliminate the truffle oil, because the restaurant smelled of truffle oil, it was over powering. I like truffle, but not too much. This pizza is unimpressive. Perhaps the truffle oil has to be there for it to be good? I think the pears should be cooked along with the pizza, not raw, and placed on top after it comes out of the oven. I think it could be improved immensely by the addition of a little bit of a cured meat, any, just something salty.
For dessert we ordered the Pear poached in red wine with Ricotta. The presentation is outstanding. The flavors are very nice, not a wow, but very nice.
I hope you don't sell the building before I have a chance to go back and give it another try!
Dolce Vita is a place I can always count on to go for a GREAT meal! I recommend sharing a bunch of different items with some friends. Has been a personal favorite for years.
One of our favorite date spots! Always great food, great service, and no rush!!! We will be back!
If you wish to eat a pizza exactly like you would in Italy, this is the place. The two story building is cozy and the food is great. Gnocchi, another typical Italian dish, are also delicious.
We love this place!!! The food is always amazing as well as the service and the staff.
The food was mediocre. Cacio & Pepe is an emblematic dish in Rome, where I've enjoyed it many times. At Dolce it was poorly prepared, too heavy with cooled congealed cheese. Gunk. The correct way to prepare the peppercorns for the dish is to toast them, then crush them. The pepper in the Dolce version was not handled this way. Not a good item for the menu unless it can be made correctly.
The Parsley and Pancetta salad was terrible. Loaded with a thick layer of grated cheese, it was difficult to get to the parsley and enjoy its flavor. The pancetta was rock hard, over cooked to the point of burning. It was unchewable for the most part. The waiter wanted to pour the cooking fat over the salad, but I stopped him. Parsley is too delicate for such hot and heavy treatment.
My wife's grilled fish was good. So was the pizza our guest enjoyed. The pear and the chocolate cake desserts were good. This restaurant tends to be uneven. I prefer the upscale Da Marco where my wife and I dine regularly. Same owner/chef, but a world of difference in quality.
Awesome. Best pizza ever anywhere if you like Neapolitan
I will be sorry to see this go. Great food and wines in a very comfortable setting.
As always a great experience at Dolce Vita. It was my first time dining for an anniversary and they truly made it special! Our waiter was so sweet the hostess and waiter wished us a happy anniversary and surprised us with a beautiful dessert we ordered writing “happy anniversary” in chocolate. 10/10 for food and experience!
One of our favorite Italian restaurants in Houston. We went there to celebrate my daughter's 15th birthday and we enjoyed everything - the service, the food and the ambience.
Absolutely loved the food. I really hope this restaurant doesn’t close when the building sells and they can find a new home!
The guy prepping our pizza after it came out of the oven was using his bare hands to get the arugula and put it on our pizza. This is Not acceptable
Go when you can sit outside...it is EXTREMELY LOUD inside! We sat upstairs & noticed a group of men with kids at another table...The children were screaming & running around the tables without any adults telling them to be quiet to sit down. It was very disturbing to our dinner as we could not hear our own conversations at our table. There were 3 other tables beside us upset as well. I feel as if the management should have addressed this while we were trying to eat.
I have children of my own & was appalled by this behavior in a restaurant.
Otherwise, food is good, the bruschetta is fabulous & so are the artichokes. Our server was very nice & quick.
Amazing food and service!
Please don’t close!!
Great food. Great service. Great location. Our waitress was amazing!!
As always a wonderful restaurant with a great happy hour. We're sorry to see it go, and would be eager for a reincarnation.
Food was great!
Overall, dinner was a big success. Food and wine were terrific. We were shown to our table and then didn't see anyone for another 15 minutes. Then, perhaps the evening shift arrived and we were then very "popular" with staff! We'll be back when we are next in Houston.
This place is always great! I love their pizzas and small plates. Definitely recommend it!
Food was great!
Epic as always
It’s great for every occasion!! The restaurant is in a cute neighborhood old house. The service is incredible and the pizza feels like I’m in Italy. I love the butter nut squash and capers salad as well!! Reasonably priced food as well!
Everything was delicious!
Too long to list but I’ll focus on the bread. What a rip off. Cut up pizza bread dregs. No flavor. No olive oil served with the bread until we asked.
As a side note, when we asked about an antipasti spread, the waiter tried to sell us on buying all of the meats and cheeses...for two people. Awful value.
Noise was very loud and uncomfortable upstairs so staff was very kind to move our family. The entire service was great.
Fun - never disappoints!
Have a great time every time we visit. The food is great and service is even better. If you're looking for a great place to have a casual night out with friends or family this is the place. Can be pretty loud on the weekends.
Abfab as always
Usually love this place but our waiter was so MIA the whole time and there was a large group of incredibly loud and rude people behind us. We complained about the noise but no one seemed to care even though all the other patrons were frustrated too. Not sure when we will go back. If not for the food I would give this negative stars.
The food is delicious, as always. We got a mushroom and prosciutto pizza, shaved brussels sprouts, pumpkin croquets, a delicious cheese and pepper pasta, a fig and cheese app. and the meatballs. Everything was fresh, homemade and fabulous.
