Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients.

    Very good food and excellent wait staff. The only issue we had was that it was very loud and you could barely hear each other when having conversation.

    Sitting next to the bar was very noisy! Service was outstanding! Wine list had no Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, or semi sweet Riesling. So white wine list a disappointment! Scallops were great but Cauliflower Gratin was watery snd lacked flavor. Duck flatbread was delicious. Coconut cake was good but expensive! I really loved the old Dakota’s. Jury is out on the new.

    It was a lovely experience. I would say that people should be advised there is no onsite parking. People expecting candicapped parking were surprised.

    Beautiful restaurant. The acoustics could better and wait staff overwhelmed. That said, it’s a great place and definitely will return and recommend!

    Upon stepping into The Dakota Restaurant, the enchanting ambience immediately sets the stage for what one hopes will be a delightful dining experience. The warm lighting and elegant decor create an inviting atmosphere that holds great promise. However, the promise of a memorable evening begins to unravel as the mediocre service unfolds. While not outright neglectful, the staff's performance leaves much to be desired, lacking the attentiveness and enthusiasm that can elevate a dining experience. The true letdown, though, comes with the dishes themselves. The veal, a dish one expects to burst with flavor, falls disappointingly flat. It not only lacks taste but also possesses the unfortunate texture reminiscent of overboiled meat, leaving diners questioning the kitchen's skill. The lobster, often a highlight in any seafood-centric establishment, fails to redeem the culinary experience. Its flavorlessness suggests a cooking process that strips away the essence of the dish. The suspicion arises that it might have been boiled without any infusion of flavorful elements, and the resulting meat appears to have been tampered with, losing the natural succulence one anticipates. In essence, Dakota Restaurant seems to have mastered the art of removing, rather than enhancing, the flavors from its dishes. It leaves patrons with a sense of culinary confusion, as if the very essence of taste has been extracted from their plates. For those seeking a gastronomic adventure, this establishment may fall short of expectations.

    The food was delicious but our meals were dropped off at the table next to us by mistake first. That was a turn off. They were out of Crown Royal on a Saturday evening. Our table was adjacent to a very noisy private party. When the reservation was made I informed the restaurant we were celebrating a birthday and I was surprised that there was no special dessert offered. At $250 for two people that's disappointing.

    Exquisite food except Charcuterie Board which could be improved. Excellent drinks. Server is friendly and attentive. Floor assistants are attentive and respectful.

    Dakotas is finally back and better than ever! Their new home is fabulous. The food is as goos or better than ever. The scallops were the best I have ever enjoyed. How can the Brie and Crab Soup be better? It was beyond delicious. Our server, Sherry was delightful and not overly attentive. The house special cocktails were superb as well. My expectations were exceeded in all areas. Fine dining is back and better than ever at Dakotas. Thanks Chef Kim!

    We had a marvelous dinner at the new Dakota. The decor is really beautiful. The service we received was excellent. Cocktails and wine were spectacular. Then the dinner was magnificent! Duck confit, crab and Brie soup, pork chop, and redfish Pontchartrain were outstanding. We had a wonderful time and will return soon!

    Second Visit to the new Dakota - food was even better - service was still very inconsistent and spotty - one member of table got coffee and 25 minutes later the rest of the table was still waiting for their coffee. I expect that this will be fixed - glad Dakota is back - be sure to ask for the "bar" or the "milwaukee" rooms - the open dining room had a bunch of drinking bachelorettes making lots of noise on both visits!

    Love the location and ambience. Wonderful addition to downtown Covington. Food and service excellent. Pricey but worth it for special occasions.

    Unfortunately it was not the service or food experience we were used to at the old Dakota . The atmosphere is really modern and swanky which is very nice but otherwise for having made a reservation in advance we felt like a bit of an afterthought. If there were any specials we were not told about them, nor were any apps recommended. It took quite sometime just to get sodas, tea and 1 glass of wine. We ordered the duck flatbread and it was okay but not anything we would crave again. Took a while to get our entrees and there is no bread service or amuse-bouche from the chef as there was at the old location. Or maybe we just did not receive any. The staff seems to need some training on entree delivery as all of them were placed in front of the wrong person and filets cooked at different temperatures (rare vs medium) had to be traded after they were tasted. The filets were good though, the scallops were very good and the veal with 3 sauces was fine but definitely not as good as Dakota’s veal as it was previously. The biggest let down was that we had noted in our reservation that we were celebrating our twins 19th birthdays, which the hostess did acknowledge upon arrival, but otherwise it was never mentioned by the waiter or any special dessert offered. We did order dessert and at least in the past that would have been presented with Happy Birthday & candles. We had been told by someone else, that has been twice, that it was not very good but we were hoping we would have a different experience. Hopefully they work out the kinks but for now we will not be rushing back anytime soon.

    This was my first time to the new location. It’s amazing. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was delicious and the ambiance was great. Parking was slightly challenging, however, it wouldn’t deter me from going back

    Manager needed a course on customer service Your Covington high school graduate was rude. Appeared stressed and overwhelmed. Spoke ugly to the customers with reservations We were told to sit in lounge area then was told we couldn’t sit there unless we purchased drinks all while we were 15+minutes early for our reservation time. When we got to the table our drinks were send out after the delicious soup and salad. We will wait while before returning. Maybe you will have a better work flow and better customer service. Bye Jo

    Kyle is an amazing server and made our anniversary special for my wife and I. Really enjoyed the new place. Parking was a little wonky with the rain but service and food was amazing.

    Service could have been better. our waitress was good, but the greeter would not seat us in the nearly empty restaurant until the entire group arrived, then would not seat us until the bar bill was paiid, even though one of our group was in the process of paying the bar bill. wine list ridiculously overpriced food was good but overpriced, red fish not great need black napkins larger mixed drink menu need to provide AV in private rooms Great potential, but need some tweaks. would try again

    The food was exceptional, the service was impeccable, and the staff went above and beyond. Specifically, when we asked to be reseated to a quieter table, the staff quickly arranged the move and an extra staff person looked after us for the rest of the evening. Dakota clearly prioritizes making sure their guests enjoy their visit. Such dedication and focus is rare.

    My husband and I went out for a date night. We loved the previous location so we’re excited when the new location opened. It did not disappoint! First, I have to say our server Sean was amazing. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and very pleasant to talk to. We will be requesting him in the future. Second, the food was amazing! We we’re torn between entrees and so satisfied with what we got. We will definitely be returning soon.

    Beautiful bar and restaurant! Fabulous service and delicious food. Glaring overhead lights and our table by the kitchen made for a less than romantic or intimate dinner. Candles and flowers on the table would have made it perfect. Beautiful and inviting and will go again.. just not for a special romantic dinner.

    The creativity and presentation of the dishes was refreshing. Dakota is easily the best restaurant on the Northshore. Our server, Carson, was attentive, professional and knowledgeable. Additionally, he demonstrated his ability to select a wine that paired well with the dishes ordered while meeting a price point. Bravo Dakota!
