We are a wine shop inside of a restaurant | Dining and design form the perfect union at San Diego's highly acclaimed CUCINA urbana, a California-inspired Italian kitchen and wine shop, located in the heart of Bankers Hill since 2009.
The restaurant boasts comfort and familiarity, welcoming diners to a country farmhouse with the added whimsy of a contemporary art installation.
CUCINA urbana is the originator of the CUCINA retail wine program where each dedicated shop allows guests to hand select wines at a retail price, either to enjoy with their meal for a minimal corkage fee or for purchase to-go. The wine list is comprised of many familiar labels as well as rare and small-batch gems, with an emphasis on Italian varietals.

Came for 9:00 seating. Would not recommend at all. Only saving grace was the squash blossom. The ensuing meal was underwhelming and under seasoned. I got the distinct impression that someone wanted to get our dishes out of the kitchen ASAP so they could go home. Told the server our entrees were just so-so (we were being generous) and she did not give AF.
Never a disappointment! The best food, service, and environment.
Cucina never disappoints! The new renovations are beautiful and the food is just as yummy as before.
Matt was our server and he was awesome. All the staff is awesome and make experience safe, fun and smoothly run. The outdoor dining has plexiglass barriers in between tables 👍🏻 Best octopus appetizer in San Diego, btw. I’ve tried them all.
We had a fantastic experience at Cucina Urbana for my birthday!
The service was spot on and friendly.
The outdoor patio is so safe with plexiglass partitions, and the heaters worked so well I was able to take my jacket off!
The food was spectacular! All the regular dishes plus beautiful new spring offers were simply stunning!
Brilliant outdoor dining experience! Hats off to the restauranteur who has created an amazing solution in the midst of this pandemic. We felt as if we were in NYC on the Upper West Side at a neighborhood bistro. The burrata + snap peas was incredible and you can never go wrong with ricotta spinach agnolotti. Our server Matt directed us to some spectacular cocktails and wine by the glass.
This was a lovely, understated-elegant experience with an urban neighborhood feel. Everything about our evening was exceptional!
This was the second weekend they were open after bing closed since before Christmas.
All things considered I think the "new" outdoor dining area is quite nice and comfortable (they have very good heaters). We were fortunate to be assigned to our favorite bartender now server Matt. He is always gracious, funny,. accommodating and knowledgeable about wine and food selections.
We were a bit disappointed with the chopped salad (no salumi this time) which is usually very good. The Paparedelle is as good as always as well as the meatball.
We had a great time
The large meatball was outstanding as was the brazeno and squash blossom .
Service was excellent. !
They have created a safe, fairly attractive outdoor seating area. The food knocked our socks off: octopus starter was tender, even moist and the brussel sprouts flaky outside but not burnt and tender inside with just the right spicy sauce for dipping; the chicken entree came with the most delicious polenta, and the steak was done just right. The pavlova was the best dessert I have had in a long time -- the right combination of textures and flavors. The service was flawless!
The way they set up the outdoor tables is beautiful. The food was excellent as always. The servers were glad to be back working. We had a wonderful meal and a delicious bottle of wine.
Glad they are open again!
Great food, and it's good to have them back at its old location
They are always a great meal - and outside with the noisy buses didn't even belittle our experience...cannot wait to experience their new interior when we can eat inside again. Tracy and her team always hit it out of the park. Matt was a knowledgable and service-forward server - a keen eye and no nuance went unnoticed.
One of the best dining experiences in San Diego. Ask for Kevin to be your waiter, he's excellent!
So glad to have the neighborhood fave back open! The outdoor dining setup is excellent, pretty, safe, heated etc. service is stellar as always as is the food and drink! Just so glad they are back! Make sure you make a reservation, they are going to be busy!
Delightful experience, every detail was attended to with care and thought. A model to admire and follow in these challenging and swiftly changing times. Thank you for your above and beyond effort.
The staff at Cucina Urbana are always so friendly and knowledgeable! I can't wait until we can eat indoors again.
Outdoor seating was comfortable and spaced out properly, with heaters.
Came for a birthday. Food was absolutely fabulous.
Kevin was amazing per usual, and so was the food and ambiance!!!
They are back in their usual location (versus the temporary location) and they remodeled to include outdoor dining. I went to the grand re-opening and loved it!!! The outdoor dining set up is lovely. The food was better than ever and the service was outstanding.
Great to see them back open. Everything tasted great. The service was outstanding. They’ve done a great job with the outdoor space that’s available. Can’t wait to get to go back inside the newly decorated restaurant.
My last restaurant meal for the year 2020! A bittersweet occasion - but a great venue to end it at.
Wonderful from beginning to end.
Always consistent! Will follow them back to the original Urbana at 5th and Laurel. Glad Camp Cucina kept me happy!!
Of all of the great dining experiences in downtown San Diego, Cucina is our favorite. It's the whole package when it comes to great food, great people and great atmosphere. Even their temporary outdoor location, set up due to COVID, was set up to preserve the experience of their regular location.
Cucina Urbana is awesome! They have the best food and service. My boyfriend and I visited the temp location on Hancock on the last night before the Dec shutdown. I had the short rib pappardelle and he had the half chicken with mascarpone polenta. Kevin was our waiter and he did an excellent job at recommending a wine for our dinner and serving us. We are so sad they are closing temporarily due to the pandemic, but we can't wait to support them whenever they come back online!
Great meal, great service. Ambiance was very nice.
Everything was Amazing! We really enjoyed the great food and wonderful service.
We always have great food and fabulous service here and this was On par with our previous visits. We’ll be back again and again!
Absolutely wonderful dining experience from the divine pasta to the beautiful venue complete with furniture and plants from Cucina’s original space. Attentive service and distanced tables constantly being sanitized made us feel safe. Plenty of space heaters and ambient lighting allow for a cozy meal no matter the time of day. Mushroom radiatore was my favorite, crispy and delectable. Dining here felt like a vacation in itself and I’m thrilled to see how they’ve not only adapted but are thriving in these challenging times ❤️
Our waiter, Kemper, was great!
The location is very kool. Aesthetically pleasing for sure. The drinks by snake oil were delicious, and the food was amazing. Service was friendly and attentive.
Beautiful place! Food was amazing, pasta was some of the best I’ve had, pizza was very good but slightly charred for our taste. Only downside to me was the $10 corkage fee on the wine you bought there ... but other than that, 5/5.
The food was fantastic. I've gone to the bankers hill location for most celebrations over the past 3 years and it never disappoints. I'm happy to see the same level of quality at this popup location and look forward to the return and full menu after COVID settles down.
Music was a little too loud and clubby for my taste but the setting at Camp Cucina was beautifully done, tables were well spaced, service was impeccable and friendly (seriously excellent service that night and server recommended a particularly great bottle of wine to our delight), and food was EXCELLENT. Even a simple salad was so good we’re already planning on coming back soon.
Awesome outdoor patio with heaters. Food was good as always! Happy the service and food didn’t change, just the location.
Amazing work by team Cucina! Same amazing experience, food and staff impressively done in a pop-up setting. Kudos to the team!
