This was our first time in Durham and we were looking for something out of the ordinary. We were very successful in going to this restaurant. While the food occasionally tries a little too hard to be different and innovative, the overall effect is wonderful. We particularly enjoyed the ribeye, and the clams and mussels dishes. The service was excellent, and the environment was conducive to enjoying the food. I would go back again next time I am in Durham.

We had bfast biscuits and it’s the best tasting biscuit i’ve ever had. The staff are all very nice including the f&b manager. Can’t wait to see their new art displays.

Just a great experience from greeting to dessert! Wonderful hostess chatted kindly, server Ginger explained some of the hidden details from the menu and support staff was quiet and helpful. We LOVE the art at this restaurant and throughout the place. It's an interesting, enlightening museum that happens to have excellent food. The Counting House is a great choice for "pre-concert" dinner as it's located near both DPAC and The Carolina Theater.

The chicken tender appetizers were a very good portion size, the oysters were overpriced for the size of some of the oysters, which were very small. Drink service unfortunately was very slow. We had our appetizers done before we got our first cocktail. The restaurant was less than half full at that time, but we were told the bar staff was backed up. Our waitress was very nice and apologetic. The cavatelli was delicious. The pork chop slightly overcooked.

We had high hopes based on reviews for Sunday brunch - but omelet was undercooked, biscuits were thick and doughy, Bloody Mary took forever (even though no customers at the bard), order came wrong the first time. Restaurant also seemed understaffed - chef order “hands” for food ready to be served (our meals) three times with no response. Not much ambiance in dining room - several uncleared tables when we arrived…and still not cleared when we left.

Another awesome dinner at the Counting House. Our second visit and perfect as before! We started by a shared Caesar salad which had a light ‘lemony’ dressing - sooo good!! Entrees of pork chop with a delicious glaze and the seared scallops- my absolute favorite! We shared the dessert of the cheesecake with baked apples- again, delicious! A great champagne anniversary dinner . Christopher, our waiter was very friendly and pleasant. Great friendly service from the moment we walked in. Beautiful, welcoming hostess! Well done Counting House!! Definitely recommend.
