About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Lively
Compère Lapin - noun - "kom-pare la-pan" - 1. anthropomorphic rabbit character who served as the mischievous protagonist in Creole and Caribbean folk tales; 2. Chef Nina Compton's restaurant at the Old No 77 Hotel & Chandlery in the Warehouse Arts District of New Orleans.

Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.

We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Nina Compton

From the OpenTable editors: At Compère Lapin, James Beard Award-winning chef Nina Compton dazzles with showstopping dishes that marry her Caribbean heritage and French fine dining pedigree. Dig into favorites like goat curry and broiled shrimp with Calabrian chili butter in a stylish space dressed with exposed brick and warm woods. Don’t miss award-winning cocktails like The Copper Hopper—a tropical, tequila-forward drink served in a copper bunny mug, a nod to the restaurant’s namesake folklore rabbit.

Another wonderful experience at Compere Lapin. The biscuits were to die for, as usual, the pigs ears were interestingly spicy, and the curried rabbit as great as ever (with its very generous percentage of meat!). The cabernet franc was worth every cent, and the extras I was given to go with it were also delicious. Rodney's service was friendly and attentive. I hope I can return next summer, if not before.

This was our second visit over several years. The first was not memorable but because it wasn’t we never felt any inclination to return. This time was perfect. The food was outstanding with a variety of interesting flavors (we chose the tasting menu) and we were floored by the overall quality. Service was both relaxed but impeccable. Over the many years of dining out I am very discriminating about any restaurant I place in my contact list. I did so as soon as we got home. It may well be one of the top ten venues we have visited. Don’t take my word for it- your loss!

This restaurant's James Beard honor is very well deserved. As a signature main course, the curried goat filled its promise and this patron's stomach at the right level. Very enjoyable. I also had the restaurant's ginger and turmeric lemonade, a touch of lemongrass and a touch of mint, which was refreshing. Significantly, I came to the restaurant after a less-than-welcoming interaction with my hotel's onsite manager, something that led me to sever my relationship with that hotel after many years' patronage. Aware of my dissatisfaction, the staff of Compere Lapin went out of their way to see to it that I enjoyed my experience at their restaurant. I got the feeling that their service was business as usual. My mouth waters about future visits to that restaurant. Please note: this restaurant serves evening meals only, and uses an ambiance that demands the business casual environment. It is an experience for the adult, with the adult in mind.

🇱🇨 Compere Lapin is an amazing experience. The food was flavorful and well thought out. We had the biscuits, tuna tartare, duo of beef and curry goat with sweet potato gnocchi. The mango brûlée was perfect for dessert. 🇱🇨
