Outstanding dining experience. The food was exceptional.
My date & I shared the scallop starter (2 large scallops) and salad w/ salmon & preserved lemon (huge!). Both were excellent, and service and ambiance were top-notch!
Thank you Jesse!
This was my second time to clarklewis. They ‘knocked it out of the park’. Experience was top notch; service, food - what one should expect from a high end PDX restaurant, and it delivered. The duck and pork tenderloin were delicious. The scallops were prepared perfectly and the sauce with them was really tasty. Even the simple green salad was done “right”. Would highly recommend this place.
Service was friendly and attentive. The food was overall excellent and very tasty, but the servings were smaller than we expected. The rack of lamb was delicious, but it was four small pieces which were, at best, a few bites each. It has a very dark industrial vibe with concrete floors so it's not exactly a homey/warm/comfy space, but the open kitchen was nice to see. It was also cold and my wife had to wear her coat the whole time. Also not the best part of town, not sure we'd go back. They also have a strange tip policy, be sure to read it before you pay your bill.
Hello Taco Cat! Thank you for visiting us. We hope you will come again. I will look into the portion size of the lamb. Some items' portion size reflect their delicacy and not as large as a dish like our steak offering. Our restaurant is in a converted warehouse. It use to be a Model T garage in the very early 1900's! During these COVID times, we have the windows/garage doors at least partially open so that there is fresh, circulating, healthy air to keep our guests and staff healthy. Thank you!
Staff was very friendly! Food was amazing,
Great food, great wine, great service, great ambience! Really enjoyed our dining experience!
Props to the chef, for their attention to detail. they have a perfectly paired menu, from starter to desert. I've always believed that having an open kitchen adds a totally different atmosphere to the dinning experience.
We were celebrating a birthday and it was a lovely evening.
The care that has been taken in setting up the restaurant makes ClarkLewis the perfect place for “Pandemic Dining”; ventilation, table spacing and the attentiveness of the staff allowed us to feel very secure. The service was exemplary and the food delicious. I look forward to my next visit!
Food and service was excellent. In this COVID environment, the staff was very conscious about maintaining the necessary safety protocols. The tables are laid out where we did not feel crowded and made for a more individualized experience.
This restaurant has always been amazing but it had been a while. Operating at 50% capacity but doing a great job. Oysters were to die for! Dinner apparently gets more crowded so it is reservations only. Staff are great
Beautiful room, attentive service, excellent menu, remarkable food, great wine selection. Attention to detail noted in all aspects.
Great food , drinks and service
Overall the experience was fairly good. The restaurant is really nice and enjoyable to be in. The staff was outstanding, incredibly accommodating and attentive. Food was good, but would have expected better. Gluten free pizza had a very salty flavor, almost like a pretzel. The regular pizza was much better.
Poorly lit outdoor seating (made worse patio umbrellas still up at 7pm). Several diners (including us) had to eat under “cell phone light” :-/ Also, little attempt to make the outdoor dining feel like you’re NOT in the middle of the street (which you sort of are). Please add some more dense shrubs or bigger trees. No outdoor heaters either so wear layers. Food is good. Tagliatelle sauce was watery abs thin but the warm carrot salad and pork tenderloin were well done. Beer and wine list is average and predicable.
Great dinner, we had the Salami & Cheese plate, a couple Caesar Salads & Mac & Cheese. It was wonderful. It is so beautiful inside with the rollup doors and plants. Great staff & kitchen.
Great, creative menu. Our dishes were perfectly executed. The atmosphere is light, open and relaxed. Good wine list.
The waitress would disappear followed by trying to rush us along. Annoying.
Overall we like this restaurant. My opinion; the restaurant is more about an event, an evening out than simply a good dinner. The food is good, if not creative, however portions are on the small side especially for the price. Restaurant decor is very nice, great view into the kitchen & prep area which we enjoy watching. Friendly service overall, the bartender who came out to take our drink order while we waited for our table was engaging and fun to talk too. Our server was also engaging & helpful. Unfortunately she forgot a couple minor requests (salt & pepper etc.) along with our oyster appetizer. We didn't get the appetizer until after we asked about it, and then after our entree's were served. I would have made a small adjustment on the final bill for the error, but no. The restaurant automatically adds 15% gratuity to your bill. Not a big deal as we usually do 20% but under the circumstances we left it as is.
Honestly some of the best food we’ve had in Portland. We got the ribeye and the pork. Both were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The dessert wasn’t my favorite but I’d come back for the entrees any day.
Fabulously delicious dinner. The wine pairings along side the fold were extraordinary! Kudos to Frederick for his plethora of knowledge and understanding of wine.
Our evening at ClarkLewis was fabulous. Our waiter was great; helpful and knowledgeable. The fresh oysters were to die for and the Caesar salad that followed was just like we like it: plenty of really good dressing and finely grated Parmesan cheese. My spouse's Lamb Ragout pasta was excellent, as was my Pork Tenderloin roast (loved the roasted carrots as well). The desert was truly decadent and highly appreciated.
The waiter-suggested wines were perfect, I just wish I could remember exactly what they were (should have written it down).
I wish the lighting at the table we were at had been just a little brighter, but it did not distract from the evening thanks to the light from our phones. Just had to use it briefly.
ClarkLewis is a great place and we have been there a few times. We will be back.
Excellent meal for our meat eater, vegan, and foodie group. It was for the commissioning of my son as a lieutenant into the US Army. Service was wonderful, food delicious, especially the fois gras appetizer and the vegan carrot, fennel dish. Salmon was excellent. They made a special whisky drink for my husband, and complimentary sparkling wine for our celebration. We came here for a reason and will return.
The service was great, however, the food was terrible. The pasta was overly salted and not cooked well. The bread was similar to those bird seed cakes you put out to feed birds. Luckily, staff was nice but we will not be eating there again
I have been to Clarklewis many times and always love the food, but the level of service is sporadic, and on this particular evening, it was marginal. It took 25 minutes from the time our foursome was seated until we received the drinks and one appetizer (a hummus platter) which we ordered within five minutes of being seated. As always, the food was good and I love the space, but slow service is a no-no, especially when the restaurant was not even that busy.
I cannot say enough about our experience at Clark Lewis. After mistakenly making a reservation for the wrong night - they were very gracious in making efforts to accommodate us - on a busy Friday night. In finding a place for us to relax and wait (safely social distanced) - where we enjoyed a cocktail while we waited. The service - at every level - from being greeted at the door, the host, our server - just random servers passing by making sure we had been taken care of - all were outstanding, above and beyond. The space itself was very cool - open and airy, plants everywhere - modern yet welcoming. And then the food... so, so very good. We had the salumi plate, tuna, lamb, and the chocolate mousse dessert. Pricing was very reasonable for the quality of the food and experience. I would definitely bring out of towners here for a special night. And we will definitely be back to try some of the delicious pasta dishes! Go. Try. Enjoy.
The train went by a lot and was very loud. It was great, though. Big open garage doors made the whole place feel like outdoor dining, even inside. Very good food, nice variety.
So happy to be there. So happy your business survived as always food and service were wonderful
Great service. Prompt delivery of drinks, great recommendations on the meal and the experience with the large open garage type doors allowed plenty of air movement to reduce COVID anxiety of this business meal
Exceptional restaurant. A true gem in the Portland area. The food is so unique and Michelin Star quality in both presentation and taste. Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Perfect ambiance, beautiful layout and restaurant design. One of the BEST restaurants in the PNW and a must eat if you’re visiting the area!
Great outdoor seating options to manage Covid. Waitstaff was great and food amazing as usual. I highly recommend heirloom tomato salad and cucumber gazpacho.
We sat on the patio outside. Great service, great food. We’ll be back.
We were so disappointed. Some of us had been here before so we had high expectations. Boy did they get it wrong. We were seated outside as we had requested and it was a nice evening. The service took forever - it was like they kept forgetting about us, they brought us food that was meant for another table, and while the food everyone else had was good (nothing special) my steak had so much gristle I finally gave up. Things are certainly surreal right now and we understand harder, but it really wasn’t a good experience at all especially for an over $800 bill (we did still tip fully knowing the staff depends on it).
Incredible all around! Loved the ambiance, almost felt like things were “normal” again. Caesar salad is the best ever, a must order! Can’t wait to come back.
The food and service was incredible, even with the Covid-19 guidelines. Shout out to the incredible mixologist that made a delicious Old Fashion and chilled BFK. clarklewis never fails to deliver
Flawless service, amazing food, safe and beautiful ambiance - will be back!!
Wonderful evening. Every aspect was great. So nice to see the restaurant open. Wouldn't want to lose this great place due to our pandemic!
Love that the big doors can open and provide fresh air.
Staff provided a safe environment.
Noise...well, it's the trains, but they pass by and conversation resumes! Glad to return to this wonderful treat of a restaurant!
Nothing to write home about. Carrots in warm salad undercooked, lamb salad had strange texture, pasta gummy. Dessert poorly constructed, so hard to get composed bites. We won't be back.
It seems like they were still working the kinks out after re-opening. Our server was very gracious but the food came out very slowly - much more so than any time I have been there before. Most of the food was great - I loved the carrots with lentils dish, the grilled peppers and the scallops crudo and the gnocchi. But I was pretty disappointed by the grilled tuna main - the fish itself tasted fishy and not very fresh. It was really too bad because the concept of the dish seemed really good, but it is hard to get past fishy-tasting fish.
Exceptional servers presented delicious food at a pace that allowed us to make the most of our celebratory occasion. I would consider myself a regular and still come here for special meals with special friends.
The setting at Clark Lewis is great - especially with the doors open on a nice evening. It’s like you are outside which of course is the best situation right now with the corona virus. The food was great too! However best of all is the service with an amazing team that seems to have an excellent culture of working together. Thanks!
