We were a big fan of ClarkLewis for years. Last night was the fist time to visit with our guest after the COVID pandemic. The menu looks as usual but the quality of the food was somehow not the same as before COVID. Many of the dishes were too much salty. We were talking that they may want us to order more beers. Last time we visited, the floor staff were great. But unfortunately, last night was not. We know it is not easy to keep the quality of the restaurant during the pandemic. But since our expectation was high, we were bit surprised. I hope they will recover the same level as before the pandemic.

The industrial location and overhead glass doors make for a cool environment. The decline of portland is evident in the adjacent parking lot with RVs and Tents. We had an early reservation and we’re the first to arrive. Instead of taking us to a private table the host decided to seat us right by the host station near the front door. The water glasses, once filled were never empty, which is good but almost OCD. The server was attentive but forgetful. Appetizer was a salumi cheese platter, which was average. Hard cheese was a block and not easily cut. Main course was good, had the chicken Caesar salad which was lightly dressed and the chicken well seasoned, not fishy at all. The blackberry cobbler was the highlight of the dining experience. Overall, the wine prices are excessive; the food is good but not “great” to the point I’d go out of my way to return; grade: B-, or 7/10c, or 3 stars. Although I might go back to try the pizza, it’s not a place I immediately think of for pizza in PDX

Took over an hour to get our appetizer. It was delicious, but then another half hour until we got our food, one dish being over seasoned, the other completely unseasoned. The service was friendly, but never apologetic for the long wait and automatic gratuity for a party of 3. Wanted to like it but will never try again and don't recommend.

The food is always fantastic here, although the pizza was a little lackluster this time. The noise level is high with open doors and a train but Clarklewis always delivers fresh, pacific northwest inspired, creative fare that has people mmmming all dinner. It is one of the restaurants you can always count on and bring guests to without worrying.

Food quantity, quality, and variety was outstanding. They had a big party in the back and so service was delayed, but that allowed plenty of time for conversation for a celebration dinner. Prices on the menu do not reflect real cost, though because when you get the bill it has a 16% service charge added that does not go toward gratuity, meaning that you still need to tip on top of the 16%. They make a compelling case of needing to do this to pay their front and back staff a "living wage," but it seems a little sneaky to me to add it in this way rather than just reflecting that need in the prices on the menu. I was prepared to pay top dollar for an outstanding meal, but this tactic felt a little manipulative to me.

Service and food was great, BUT it was well over 90 degrees outside we walked in to comfortable room, minutes later every large door was flung open - we asked why and were told the owner had arrived and wanted them open - the rest of the meal we enjoyed the food but were hot and uncomfortable and do not understand why.

Let me start off by saying, if I knew it was going to be 1000 degrees in there I would of canceled. I felt so sorry for the staff working the oven and kitchen. Troopers COLD Smoked cured CARPACIO: my fault I didn't ask. Hated it Oysters: great Sugo pasta: extra salty and I wasn't expecting shredded meat in my pasta. But again my fault. I asked to make sure they had really bubbly soda for my drink if not I would of ordered something else. Flat. Pizza was dry and hard. Would I come here again, not if it's 10000 degrees inside Super sketch area unfortunately

TL;DR: If you’re looking for a good dining experience, go elsewhere. If you’re a Clarklewis rep, you have work to do. Details: we got a table for a birthday dinner for 2 on a Sunday night at the last seating, 8:15pm. It wasn’t too busy, and service was a bit slow but ok. We got our drinks after a while, and ordered a shared appetizer — an ok avocado/pea gazpacho — a halibut entrée, and a beef tenderloin entrée ordered medium rare. The appetizer came a bit late for cold soup, but the entrées took a great deal longer than expected, perhaps 40 minutes later. The $39 halibut was meh, a bit pedestrian. The $55 tenderloin was two approximately 2 oz. slim slices of beef, reasonably seared on the outside but otherwise raw. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he said “yeah, that’s not medium rare,” and took the plate. 25 minutes go by without a word, with my wife’s entrée gone quickly cold. A new plate was deposited in front of me without a word, and the waiter left. My wife had to get up to request her food be reheated, and her plate was yanked without a word. It was returned in 10 minutes in a salad bowl, apparently microwaved. No apology from the waiter. The tenderloin was pretty good, though not $55 good. The maitre’d came over to say he perhaps had overworked the waiter. He comped us a small slice of Safeway-quality cheesecake and two small glasses of what tasted like Prosecco but he claimed were $20 glasses of champagne. When we got the bill, he said he’d only charge me for one of the two $55 entrees — including the one that was sent back uneaten because it was raw. Gosh, thanks. I have a lot of sympathy for restaurants when things go wrong. I don’t when there is opportunity to make things better, and the restaurant/staff makes a weak attempt to do so. A premium restaurant would have at least comped one of the entrees, if not both. Clarklewis charges a premium price, and at best it’s not worth it. Customers can do much better elsewhere.

Clarklewis fell down tonight. 1 hour and 25 minutes to get 2 pizzas and a salad. Everyone at the table had to get up to stretch their legs the meal took so long. The server Nathan was great, but the kitchen was incredibly slow. The kitchen was full of people and restaurant was at 60% capacity. Always enjoyed Clarklewis in the past, but this was my worst dining experience. Based on our past experience, we will be back, but the first time diners vowed not to return.

The food is always good and has many vegetarian-friendly offerings. The wine list has a lot of variety, though I am surprised there aren't more Pinot Gris selections (no it is not a boring wine, especially with oysters). The wine steward is always helpful and can help break the tie when considering several options. Unfortunately, the environment is extremely loud and disturbing so one can not have a quiet dinner, especially when rowdy guests add their loud talking. Nevertheless, we will be back. This is a regular dinner place for us.

For the most part it was a expected experience. Couple of things threw me off from being the great experience I’m used to at Clarklewis. The lentils which were all through the meal of my starter (burrata) and the fish entrees were the same taste, which did not make it seem cohesive menu but more like they were cost savings. Which I get, but am not used to at CL. The side for the entree was cold (by design) and heavily pickled which took away from the overall dish. The salmon was tasty and well cooked in its own right. We had 3 salmons at the table and one was more than twice the cut size as the other two. So much so, that the larger cut was cut into two pieces and was going to be taken home. I asked for a to-go plate when my plate was cleared (by a helper) for this 1/2 salmon which was moved to another plate for safe keeping. The server cleared the salmon steak without asking if it was ok or if we wanted a to go box. (It was 2.5-3 oz). She threw it away apparently. Because when asked about it later she said she didn’t hear me say I wanted a to go box, but advised her I said it to the guy who cleared my plate who said he would bring me one It was an unfortunate situation, but honestly it surprised me considering the size of this chunk of salmon.

The staff was amazing! We arrived a little early and the staff welcomed us and were so very sweet. The ambience was great beautiful looking room. However the food was just ok. I ordered the king salmon which lacked and seasoning what so ever and same with my wife’s steak. They looked beautiful bu the food needed seasoning. I will say the gnocchi pasta was out of bounds good and packed with flavor.

This is my favorite restaurant in Portland. My friends and I went here on a Thursday evening (7/14/22) and the entire night was so beautiful and perfect. The restaurant its self is so cute (and there’s free parking). It’s definitely in the fancier side if you want it to be, we wore dresses and heals, but it can also be casual. The food is 9.5/10 (coming from a 25 year old girl who probably doesn’t have the most expansive palette), but I’ve never had a bad dish there. I’ve been about 10 times for a date night, but this was the first time I’ve brought my friends. I’m mostly vegan which isn’t the theme of the restaurant at all. I get the loaded veggie pizza with vegan cheese, it’s to die for. My friends got the salmon, halibut and trout salad and they each loved them! The overall consensus was that the halibut > king salmon. We also got the carrot starter and it was also to tie for. I will be bringing my family back here when the come up in August!

Slooooooowwwwwww. Also, unfortunately, food was cold when it arrived 2 hours later. Love this restaurant but it is not consistent with dinner service. We usually have a better experience at lunch when not as busy and the kitchen can keep pace. Always great for cocktails on their new patio and the service is excellent when there are enough servers to provide the quality of service for a expensive restaurant. Hopefully, it is a COVID staffing struggle and they can put it back together this year.

We were confused and put off by the coercive tipping instructions and odd way the health care contribution seems to be directly foisted on the server and the customers. We had to wait a long time for our entree. The beer I ordered to go with my main meal arrived just a few minutes before we had finished. The salad was nothing like described. The charcuterie was good, though more bread would have been welcome. The pasta dishes were also good.

Great cocktails- but terrible location and ambiance. Unsafe parking conditions and trash everywhere around the building. The 17 percent surcharge to support living wages was added in and the tip option was reflected on top of the surcharge. Our small meal of a shared pizza and 2 appetizers with 2 cocktails was 178.00! No thank Portland- being a server is a choice and not one that your customers should have to “ support” - employers need to support their staff - your customer should reflect their satisfaction with a generous tip.

Overall the food was very well thought out, the Fava beans on the burrata were mind bending, but service and organization was far lacking. FOH fighting on the line, extended waits of dishes, lack of service, and dropping the ball on a very special occasion. A buddy even bought me a bottle of champagne to celebrate our engagement; never received it. And no celebration of or our occasion whatsoever. In fact the dessert was only comped because it literally took an hour.
