Chit Chaat Chai
Chaat is better than any other menu item. The drinks are overpriced for what they offer, I couldn't taste the the alcohol in any of the drinks we ordered. Rechecked with them if they have forgotten to put any ?Very poor at taking feedback, Dont ever have Masala chai ..its premade and tastes like having a sugar solution and served cold !! When we complained the answer was thats how sweet 90 % ppl like it so we can't change it and then microwaved it and gave it back to us to drink - Which we left ? Wont take it off our bill even when pointed that the 4 Tea glasses are full on our table . Gave feedback about some food items which was also not taken quite well. I won't go back just beacuse how they reacted to any conversation. I am from india so please don't try to tell me that's how its made. Il Won't last long if they don't change attitude ans improve their pricing.
We love everything about this place - food, ambience, staff are all exceptional
Our meal at Chit Chaat Chai was an eye opener. As soon as an Indian family of eight walked I knew we were probably onto a winner and I was right. The number of dishes on offers is limited but all the better for that as they are beautifully flavoured and freshly prepared. As in India everything arrives at once at the table. Small plates like the wonderful Pani Puri with a scented broth were divine as were the curries, Dahl and straight out of the oven naan. Two small plates, two large, and two sides (rice and naan) plus a large beer and a mango lassi came to 45 pound. Very good value
Great food but inexplicably noisy - it turned into a nightclub at 9.30pm much to the bemusement of the diners who were there for a nice sat eve meal!!
Located in the relative peace of Old York Road this place is a gem. They have a lovely selection of dishes and, as with a lot of Indian food, the selection for vegetarians is outstanding. The fried Bhindi is fabulous. One of us had a great chicken curry too. Recommended.
No better catch-up with friends than with great food and service. The four of us ordered all the starters and mains from the lunch menu so we could try everything. Been here a few times now and always leave with a happy tummy :)
Great way to spend Valentine's Evening good food great service
We enjoyed all the dishes we sampled, we were a bit disappointed that 3 of the advertised dishes that we wanted to try were not available.
I love this place - great tasting food in laid back setting. Just hope it gets some more visitors so it can stay open!
Great tasty Indian food 5 stars
Love this place! Food is delicious and staff are awesome.
Extremely disappointed after our booking was cancelled at the last minute for a private party. Very unprofessional and out of order. Offered just an apology and a booking for the next evening.
A really enjoyable visit, fantastic food, great service, a good time was had by all.
Dinner for two. Food was tasty, service was fast and staff very friendly.
Beautiful little restaurants based near Wandsworth town station. Simple but incredibly tasty food and great service to match the food.
Lovely environment to sit and chat with friends = lovely evening out
Amazing food and cocktails, interesting take on Indian street food and great ambience with fab art available to buy as well as a comfortable dining experience.
This place is a great find! Service was friendly, ambience was chilled, all vibes were good. Food tasted great, and flavoursome. Masala chai is must, definitely addictive... I had two cups
Food really good but some dishes lacked flavour and were just spicy whereas others were brilliant: okra fries and roti bread and beetroot chole. Service was erratic, waitresses nice but very inexperienced and took a long time to do basic tasks, also waitress had no knowledge of menu. They also had an incident at the time with some noisy and disruptive patrons which went on for 30 mins before police were called and staff were not proactive in throwing the arguing couple out so caused a bad atmosphere
A mixed experience here. Poor service - the waiter didn't seem to know where he was! The decor was nice and this place has a lot of potential as the food is not bad (would say it's average). However the table we sat on clearly hadn't been cleaned. With a few amendments to the dishes and perhaps a few more items on the menu, along with better service this place could be good!
This is the first time we’ve eaten in here for a while as our last few experiences had been very bad with non existent service. The service this time was greatly improved though had to ask for water repeatedly. The major issue remains that when you are sat at the front it gets very cold as people are constantly coming and going with some standing with the door open as they ask about availability. Deliveroo has also made this worse with a constant stream of delivery drivers coming and going. It’s a shame because the food is wonderful
Really, really nice evening with great flavours in the food. We were there on a special offer, the only thing which could have been done differently was clarity on the special menu. We chose as advised and then got told that most of our selections weren't included. Having said that what we received was delicious and we had a great evening.
Really lovely place with friendly staff and delicious food. We went on the recommendation of friends and it was worth the trip. We’re both veggie and it was nice to have some different food to try. I recommend the beetroot dish- can’t remember the name it was superb.
Cut out the cocktails - it’s meant to be Indian Street food not a cocktail bar. Food great and came quickly however one of the waitresses was v slow and difficult to get her attention so ended up paying at the bar. Place desperately needs a clean, all feels grubby and tables too small for all the paraphernalia already on them when u sit down - and that’s before your food arrives. Will take out next time.
Went on a Sunday Lunchtime. Glad I booked as it was very buzzy for a Sunday Lunchtime!
Food was wonderfully authentic, especially the Mango Lassi & Samosa Chaat. Friendly staff who did well to recommended vegan dishes for my friend.
I visited Chit Chaat Chai mid week with two friends, we redeemed the Time Out offer. The service was slow and some items were forgotten from our order but the overall experience was good when taking into consideration the £15 a head deal. I would recommend for cheap low key dinner.
Absolutely loved Chit Chat Chai and the Timeout promotional menu. Such good value. We'll be back for sure, even though we dined with a special offer we'll be back and 100% happy to pay the normal menu prices. Great little place with authentic, tasty food and lovely staff.
Chit Chaat Chai has a lot of potential but sadly does not quite make the mark. The decor is fun and quirky; a theme which is also reflected in the menu. The service was poor, however. We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks and throughout the evening it was hard to get the attention of the three members of staff working (even though the restaurant wasn't that busy). The food looked delicious but was cold and sadly disappointing. I got the impression that it had been prepared earlier and warmed up. The beetroot chole and chili paneer were tasty and interesting. The rest of the dishes lacked taste and were obviously not cooked with love. We had a £25 deal from Time Out which included 4 street chaats, 2 bigger chaats and 2 side chaats and a cocktail each. The cocktail was not to my taste, which is not the restaurant's fault, but it was watered down and a different colour to my partner's who had also ordered the same drink. The Time Out deal was good/fair. I would definitely not want to pay >£55 for what we ate. You could eat a substantial, tastier curry for that. It is such a shame as we are neighbours and regularly eat out at the other restaurants down Old York Road.
We were really looking forward to this meal but at the end we felt it was very expensive for the food we ate - some dishes were better than others. The service was average - we had to keep reminding the staff what we had ordered etc.
The food was really delicious, particularly the okra fries but quite expensive all things considered. We ordered some additional naan which took forever to arrive so we had finished everything by the time it came. The waitress didn’t apologise just explained it was apparently busy - we were one of three tables in there on a weds night. Can’t inagine how they cope at weekends. They had also run out of all their lagers.
Everything was perfect! If I had to complain, I would say the heating wasn’t enough.
Do not book at 9:45 as it closes at 10. Food was good but experience was all too rushed. We should have not been allowed to book a table so late if they shut so early.
We enjoyed the food, some of the dishes were quite spicy so it is good if you like the heat. Okra fries were good.
All the dishes we ordered were on the whole good - I would recommend the Bombay Bhel - it was certainly not dry but had good flavours and generous portion size. Okra fries were delicious! Samosa chaat was nice too - good flavours. Preferred the paneer Kati roll over the chicken.
We had the lamb curry - it was a good portion and meat was tender.
Unfortunately the food took over 35 minutes to arrive with no communication as to why, and some of our food didn’t arrive at all so we let them know but asked them not to bother bringing it as it was too late! They didn’t seem too bothered and there was no apology until we went to pay the bill at the end - no compensation either! Overall service was pretty poor and staff seemed uninformed, uninterested and lacked care and attention. On that note it was hard to get anyone’s attention!!!
A note for people with younger children - this place does not cater for children, there is no children’s menu and most of the dishes are too spicy!!
Decided to give this place a try as we love Indian street food, glad we tried but there are similar places with much better service where you feel welcomed. But the food was still decent, shame the service let it down!
Food was very tasty and vibrantly flavoured. The cocktail with coriander was a little unusual and a bit like a curry in a glass. The fried okra very tasty and on the hot side.
Service was a bit mixed and it was difficult to get people’s attention. The guy with the coloured hair was nice and when he was serving it was good.
Kathi Roll took me straight back to the streets of Kolkata - delicious!
Very nice restaurant I recommend I like chilli paneer but I don’t like panipuri and expensive as well
Visited Friday Lunchtime. Place was a full house despite it being relatively quiet on the street.
Service was efficient and polite. The artwork on the wall was bright and vibrant, definitely brightened up a dull afternoon. I had their £7 lunch menu which is of exceptional value! A Samosa Chaat & Chicken Kati roll were delicious, light but filling. Highly recommended.
Not your average Indian restaurant! Definitely go for some okra fries and try one if their cocktails. The big chaats are big enough for one each but perfect to get a few and share with others. Kati rolls are great.
The best Indian restaurant south of the river. Been to this restuarant a handful of times and never disappoints. Fun colourful ambience with friendly staff but the food is it's crowning glory. The Samosa Chaat & Beetroot Tikki are insanely good especially with an Indian craft beer of which they have a good selection.
Authentic as it gets Indian street food with spot-on flavours, relaxed setting, beautifully decorated, great music, friendly staff. Look forward to seeing more of them across London!
