Ceviche is quite good and some dishes are really gutsy. Tuna, crab, yellowtail, rockfish. Grilled octopus was delicious. Decor could use a refresh and service was kind and attentive but needed reminders on water, check.

Food was good, but relied a bit too much on spicy heat for flavor rather than a balance of the rest of the ingredients. Had really high hopes for the Crab al Pastor. While good, it had so much achiote chile you couldn't really taste the crab. It could have been any meat at that point. Hope the chef can refine the recipes to rely bring out the flavor of the seafood.

My friend and I had an excellent meal at Ceviche House. The restaurant was very quiet the night we were there, but there were very few customers, so don't know what it would be like on an ordinary night.

We had guacamole, which was delicious, and tostadas which were good but nothing special. Also split an Ensenada Ceviche which was fresh and quite good. Our waitress was excellent, and the service very attentive. A nice change from most of the restaurants in Old Town. Very impressed that they serve only sustainable, wild caught fish, so everything is very healthy.

It took 45 minutes to get our food when only half the tables were full. We had a reservation, but the kitchen appears to prioritize to-go orders above diners. No apologies or accommodations from the manager despite the fact that we barely made it to our Cygnet theater show due to the slow service.

Food was good, but portions were very small. The Blue Crab al Pastor was good, but only a single tostada for $16. It should be on the appetizer menu. The Crab was recommended with tortillas, but they were not included for some reason, despite the small size. The Papa and Chorizo was a little larger and tasty.

I think they know their fish is outstanding so they drop the ball on service in and ambiance. Made a reservation on open table, and there was nowhere on the page to indicate a preference between inside or outside so don't be surprised when you get there, there's outside seating available but they stick you indoors. Took about 30 minutes before our waitress saw to us because it was just her and another girl tending the whole place.

Now for the good part. The fish is outstanding. It comes in small portions so order multiple plates and prepare to spend. But I will definitely go back. I might just not go back with people with whom I'm trying to impress as it was not the best dining experience.

We were a group of 5 having dinner prior to seeing a play at Cygnet Theater. We shared a couple different types of ceviche, several cold dishes, and one hot dish. The fish (we had all raw fish dishes, save one) was terrific, extremely fresh. The presentation of each dish was beautiful, with slices of fish garnished with a variety of ingredients and complemented by wonderful sauces. They were a oddly conservative with the tortilla chips they served with the dishes, bringing a couple small baskets with 6-8 chips; they did bring more small baskets on request, but it was as if they were concerned about having enough to last the evening (we were there relatively early). Perhaps they just want to minimize waste....
The service was a bit spotty--good and quick at first but then slowed dramatically. They seemed a bit under-staffed, or perhaps still need to do some work to streamline the operations. The dishes are rather elegant and probably rather time-consuming to prepare/plate, so that may have been a factor.
The one thing that struck us is that there is some incongruity between the food and the ambiance/decor/service. The food is excellent and the presentation beautiful, while the atmosphere and service are much more casual. Not a problem, just unusual. In any case, the food is wonderful; we will definitely return, and highly recommend!

Great variety of ceviche from Mexico and South America. Also some nice cooked dishes. Don't skip the guacamole!
We arrived not knowing what to expect, and found a very casual restaurant and friendly service. Our server helped by telling us about each of the menu items. Their variety of beers is nice, not great, but there were several that I enjoyed.
We selected everything raw, and it was terrific!
If you like sushi, you'll love this place. A totally different take on raw fish that we really enjoyed.

Our servers were pleasant but overworked. They needed 2 more to cover the restaurant. Perhaps having someone dedicated to doing drinks would free them up. None of the dishes were described to us upon delivery. Since servers and bussers were all stepping into eachothers' customers, they couldn't keep track of what had been delivered. Some training and streamlining of service would be helpful and allow them to feel less stressed, scattered and allow for efficiency. Food was good on the whole..grilled octopus was extremely tough.
Floors and restrooms were extremely dirty.

We made a reservation for a holiday weekend. After driving to Old Town and paying for parking, we found the restaurant closed.

There are lots of restaurants in Old Town. Unfortunately, one of the people on our reservation had limited mobility, and it's difficult to walk and stand to wait for a table which is why we always have a reservation and pay to park nearby.

I'm not sure if the restaurant is closed for good or just closed for a holiday.

Juan Carlos Racamier creates the best Ceviche dishes and more in San Diego. The freshest locally sourced seafood from Catalina Offshore and directly from the fisherman at Tuna Harbor Dockside is exquisite. His creations are both delicious and visually beautiful. One of my top favorites.

We ate here on Cinco de Mayo. While Old Town was a mass of people, we had no trouble with our reservation. In fact, because of the traffic we were late and the staff was extremely understanding and patient. We thought the food choices were delicious and creative. Two of our guests are Mexican and they too appreciated the originality of the tacos and grilled fish plate we ordered. The beer and wine choices were adequate, but we did wish there was tequila for an accompanying margarita. Our waitress was a bit inexperienced but that was more than made up for by the unsolicited personal attention we received from the manager and chef! While the restaurant was out of a couple fish options, we appreciated the fact that this was because they buy the fish fresh each day. We're all looking forward to returning and definitely recommend this restaurant.

Food was great!! Very fresh and protons were good. Service could use a little work but it was Cinco de Mayo and pretty chaotic all over the area. I will be going back for sure. They have a limited beer and wine selection, no margaritas (which is a must in Old Town) but overall positive experience.

Terrible. Zero rating if it were option.
Maybe just poor, but we expected so much, hoping for an Erizo in San Diego.
Slow, under staffed, pathetically slow kitchen. Though table with Cook's friends got served faster.
We were discussing what a great experience and deal we head recently at Convoy Chinese restaurants. We felt $63 Ceviche House meal was worth maybe $20.
Better to go to Tijuana for Mexican food.

A great Mexican seafood restaurant on the edge of Old Town. We had the chef’s ceviche, the oysters, the blue crab pastor and grilled octopus. A. Modern spin on Mexican seafood. All were outstanding. The Mexican wine was also very good. The service was outstanding. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu items and made great suggestions. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

The food was delicious. The service was not. I asked the waitress what the fish of the day was for the entrees, and she told me sea bass. I was sold, as sea bass is my favorite. When the meal came, she gave me tuna. I told her she said it was sea bass. She said she was sorry and that was the end. No offer to replace it or fix it. While the tuna was very good, it was not what I ordered, and because the fish was supposed to be sea bass, we ordered tuna for a different fish, and I passed on the other seabass appetizer I was going to get originally until she mentioned the special. Very frustrating. Maybe the manager will reach out and make this right.

This is a very nice place outside the more touristy section of Old Town San Diego. The ceviche is fresh, amazing and they do it with creativity. They have a nice selection of craft beers as well as an in house beer that is highly recommended. Ambience is no frills, but that doesn't matter because the food outshines most of the places in Old Town.

Came to this amazing restaurant with a business colleague and he was blown away .... he said I don’t eat shellfish and the chef came out and assured him there won’t be any shellfish in out food.
We agreed that from that day and on all of our future business meeting (lunch) we have to make them at Ceviche House.
