Wow! Yes go here.
Stumbled upon the tasting menu dinner. Amazing. Liked everything.
Interesting combo of flavors.
Dark cozy ambiance. Little loud. But not real loud.
Halibut was a tad dry. Still good.
Pork chop was shockingly great. Not dry. Excellent. Not sure if that’s tasking menu only or not.
It was restaurant week in Newport Beach. An excellent time to try out restaurants that we were unfamiliar with. Blown away by quality of meal, value, service, and ambiance. This restaurant is a hidden jewel in Newport Beach.
We had the BBQ carrots that were a meal into themselves. We followed worth a pasta dish that was amazing. The entrees were the halibut and the boneless pork chop. Halibut was good and the pork was Devine.
We both felt that this one of the best meals that we have had in Newport in a long time.
My wife and I tried CDM this weekend for Restaurant Week. Overall our experience was very good. I started with the citrus salad which was superb, followed by the ravioli appetizer which was also excellent. Unfortunately, my halibut entree was way overcooked. Our waiter took the halibut back to the kitchen and returned saying the chef agreed that it was too hard, but that his shipment of halibut was very tough this week. I was surprised that if the chef was aware that the halibut was too tough, why didn't they take it off the menu. They offered me another entree or a $25 credit, which was acceptable to me.
Terrible service but food was good.
Finally a serious kitchen in Newport Beach! We were so pleasantly surprised by the quality a the dishes we ordered.
Food was great! Fun atmosphere, yummy drinks and those Parker Rolls???? OMG! Service was great except that our server was a Packer fan (Seahawk 12thfan here!). Seriously, he was great! The only thing that I didn't like was that we had made a reservation weeks in advance and when we got there I asked if we could go downstairs for a drink. Hostess said it was at capacity so put us on a 'list' and after dinner we asked again and got the same answer. Had to do some heavy duty sweet talking to the bouncer guy to let us go down. It wasn't that crowded. I think if you are there for dinner and spending money, you should be able to go down to the speakeasy area for a drink. Other than that, great place.
One of the best restaurant in orange county
Wonderful atmosphere and fantastic food. Will definitely be back
Perhaps we (early and mid-40s) are getting too told for places such as this. The food was absolutely delightful; however, the atmosphere was beyond challenging. We couldn't hear each other across a two-top; our server also couldn't hear us as we tried to order. Had it been a drinking game for the number of times we said "what?" or "I couldn't hear you" during the evening, we'd have been cut off in the first ten minutes. On top of that, in addition to the entire restaurant being a bandbox, our table was positioned up against another two-top in which a left-handed diner couldn't sit in the chair, and less space existed between the two seats than on the cramped airline on which we'd just flown back to California for the New Year's holidays.
BUT(!) If you can get past not being able to hear your date, not being able to have your server hear you, bumping the people next to you, and feeling as if you're crammed in tighter than sardines, the FOOD at this establishment was wonderful, but I'm not going to describe the particular dishes, because we just couldn't get past the horrid atmosphere. We won't return.
Look forward to going back was amazing all around with great food, service, ambience and vibe.
Everything was great except we had a hard time hearing one another due to the noise level.
Great atmosphere and great food at CDM. Problem is the volume. It was almost like a night club which, apparently, is what many customers wanted. We like the upscale lounge vibe and food but will be choosing slower times to go given our distaste for “too loud to talk” restaurants.
What a night. The ambiance, the food, the service. Absolutely incredible and will be back ASAP 10 out of Friggen 10.
Wow. I was surprised by how good everything about our experience was. We arrived 20 minutes early and were seated right away. While the table was in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the bar, we were able to swing our chairs around to sit together so that we could hear each other just fine. Our server, Grace, was super pleasant and got us two cocktails to start things off. My Gin Blossom was kind of feminine but delicious and my wife’s illegal skinny margarita was spicy but also spot on. My friend recommended the BBQ carrots and their specialty, the chicken pot pie calzone. We ordered both plus the heirloom tomatoes and beets as well as the dirty pasta. As requested, the dishes came out one at a time, beginning with the carrots. These were my favorite. They managed to give them a BBQ taste without any BBQ sauce; rather pecan butter and dill. These alone would have earned a 5 star rating. The tomatoes and beets were pretty good, but the calzone is the house specialty for a reason. My wife, who doesn’t love pot pies, even enjoyed this one. Lastly, the rigatoni with duck was cooked so perfectly that I licked the bowl clean. To round out the experience, Grace put our name on the list for the speakeasy while we wrapped up and we were soon escorted by the doorman downstairs for some tasty cocktails. Simone and the bar manager made us a hot toddy and another whiskey drink that warned us up before we departed. CDM restaurant is a gem and a welcome replacement for the former Crow Bar.
Second time to CDM after a perfect first visit. We ordered the antipasto salad and lamb ribs, which were delicious. We also ordered the fancy pizza, which came out completely soggy through the center. Our waitress was quick to apologize, offer something else instead, and comp it from our bill. We still love CDM, but will try something else next time.
Everything was superb. The speakeasy started off our amazing dining experience. Orrie was able to create drinks per our individual tastes! Just above and beyond. 5 of us shared almost everything we ordered. Scallops were tops. Carrots were next but everything else was a close 3rd. Pork chops were my personal favorite entre.
Everyone was great here. Food was amazing. Thank you for a wonderful night
Nice ambience, great for special occasion, nice bar scene, great food and unique, well presented,
good wait staff, highly recommended.
Great vibe at this place!
My new favorite spot! Absolutely amazing service, food and ambiance.
Louis was our server and he is beyond amazing. He knows what he is doing, described each plate perfectly and gave us really good suggestions.
The roasted lamb ribs are to die for. They melt in your mouth.
Definitely coming back!
It’s a lively place but not a lot of room to walk around or have a drink at the bar. Had a reservation but still had to wait. Drinks were ok.
Ordered the burger Medium Rare. It came out medium well. The second time it came out welll done. No manger ever came to check on this issue. I went home and made a grilled cheese for myself.
Not handled well at all.
Seated at a table next to walk way where people kept bumping into us. Would have preferred a booth. Away from foot traffic. Otherwise nice experience.
Always a pleasure. Food and service are excellent. Overhead lights at the bar are way too bright. TV unnecessary.
Our server Luis was very knowledgeable about the food and gave great recommendations! Wine & cocktails were excellent. Also got some free dessert for birthday and it was amazing. Thank you Luis & Chef Blackford!
Food was good. Prices were a little bit High. This is not Paris. Or New York City.
I love CDM. I've been several times now and it is always terrific. This visit was no exception. I had a last minute friend who wanted to join us for dinner and when we arrived, the host (whose name I didn't get but who was terrific) indicated they only had a table that could accommodate the two guests for the original reservation (which was true...the restaurant was completely full). My friend stayed at the bar while we were seated, and before we even received water, the terrific host had somehow found a way to seat the three of us at a perfect corner booth. Really went out of her way to do this on a very busy night and we very much appreciated it. Kate S. was our server and she was equally terrific, taking time to explain the specials, several menu items and most of the cocktail list. We ordered apps--the outstanding (Parker) House Rolls and excellent Duck Liver Pate. Entrees included Gnocchi & Veal, Dirty Pasta and an Antipasto Salad. All were perfect. We shared an Apple Hand Pie for dessert. Kind of McDonald's-esque, but lots better, of course. Cocktails were also very well prepared (the Aperol Spritz was particularly great), and CDM has a very good selection of wines by the glass (Kate recommended the Blue Jay, which paired perfectly with the veal dish). I was also impressed that the restaurant had Fernet Branca, which is almost an imperative after a meal like the one we enjoyed. All in all, CDM is a terrific dining experience with tremendous service and incredible hospitality (particularly from the host). Will be back soon and often!
Nice booth, great waitress great quality food, recommend this place for a special occasion!
Food was outstanding, wine selection outstanding and solid pricing. Only disappointment was our 8pm reservation was not filled timing given the hostess gave our table to another group that grew by an additional person, so we were seated at 8:35p without any acknowledgement or consolation.
Honestly, I’d never heard of this restaurant until a buddy came back to work raving. The filet was INSANE!
First time there and we had a great time. Staff was attentive, but not too attentive. Good cocktails, good food and a unique menu. Good portions also. We will be going back.
Excellent food. The veal with the gnocchi was really good. Veal very tender with lots of flavor.
Server was obviously inexperienced. Needs to think about what he’s doing and not do random things just to do something.
Hidden Gem!! Had an amazing evening - each and every dish had outstanding favors.
We were looking forward to a great dinner and night out celebrating our friends birthday at CDM but were disappointed when the restaurant on a Saturday night told us at 11pm it’s last call. Than 15 minutes later the door man came around and told us we had to get up and leave that they were closing. Our dinner reservation was at 9:30 and there were also people still in the restaurant that were asked to finish and leave. That was disappointing.
I really liked the food and ambience. Maybe the manager can rethink the closing time on the weekend especially when taking late reservations.
Food was average. Thought for this tripe of restaurant would be better
Excellent food, horrible service. We weren’t checked on frequently. Two tables that came after us got their food (ordered what we had) yet when we inquired why the response was “ the kitchen is working on it”. At this point we had been waiting exactly one hour. It’s very loud but I don’t mind that. The food was very delicious and I would’ve had a better experience if I didn’t have to wait an hour to get my food.
Good waitress, god food, great speakeasy!
