It was our first time dining at Catania. We were a party of 4 and were seated in a very comfortable booth. The decor inside is casual elegant and they also have an outdoor patio with an ocean view. The indoor bar also has a bit of an ocean view depending on your seat. We started with Valentina cocktail. It was beautiful, refreshing, not overly sweet and an interactive experience. For an appetizer we had the octopus and and the Diablo pizza. The octopus was perfectly cooked with a crispy char on the outside. The flavor was amazing and had some garbanzo beans in the dish as well. It was wonderful! The pizza was full of flavor and the thin crust kept it light. I could’ve had the whole thing myself. For entrees we had the duck pasta and the ziti. Both were absolutely delicious! The pasta was Al dente and the portion was plenty. We tried the Nutella semifredo. That was outstanding! It was salty, sweet and had the best texture! The Restuarant is located on the 3rd floor which allows for the ocean view and wonderful California breeze. The service was fantastic! Not overbearing. They were knowledgeable of their menu offerings and very friendly. We can’t wait to come back!!

Tasty Italian meal in lovely LaJolla. We thought the service was fantastic and we really enjoyed our food with a view. (We watched the sun set over the pacific from the restaurant’s outdoor terrace.) The pasta is made in house and there were some great choices on the menu. Very bustling and quite loud. Dessert menu is very limited so consider having a plan for a sweet treat elsewhere after your dinner.

Amazing service. Friendly. Let us taste wines before choosing. Didn’t have the branzino left so brought us a free crudo. I’ve been here before burn the is was my best experience to date!

We went there to celebrate our anniversary and it was our first time visiting. The food was exceptional. The views of the ocean were good, but overall the atmosphere was not as high as what I expected.

We dined outside on the patio. Started with tuna crudo, excellent, refreshing! Summer salad also fresh and light! We shared some garlic focaccia which was delicious and the crust crusty! Bucatini with spicy pork guanciale and added shrimp! Very good and well balanced with some acidity, smokiness and sweetness! Highly recommend this restaurant!

I had the octopus appetizer. I wanted to soak up the sauce but discovered they do not serve bread. I can't think of another place that doesn't provide bread while customers drink wine and wait for meal. Pretty cheap. The octopus was tasty but overcooked and a bit rubbery. Last time I had it, it was tender and perfect. My other comment is the noise level. Our banquette was next to the bar and we could hardly hear ourselves talk as people gathered at the bar. There needs to be some kind of partition to block the noise or only have the far side of the bar used for cocktail hour.

Catania never disappoints. The mushroom pizza is to die for, the appetizers are unique, and the wine list extensive.

We had a wonderful time at Catania! The food was great, service was spot-on, and you can’t beat a rooftop restaurant for ambiance and view. Highly recommend!
