Casanova Italian Restaurant
At the main crossroad of Historic Makawao town, Casanova is a must do experience after a visit to Haleakala National Park.
Friendly atmosphere, good food, reasonable prices and great staff. We enjoyed the calamari for starters. The pasta was homemade and the sauce was good and garlicky. My husband had the filet and when he made the waitress aware that it was overcooked she whisked it away and returned in just a few minutes with a fresh perfectly cooked steak. Would be a good place to take the kids.
Tough cheap steaks, both ribeye and NY
Gristle and too hard to chew
Pasta dishes were cold
Focaccia bread nowhere as good as in the old days
Overall a huge disappointment
Was surprised with the quality, awesome food !!!!!!!!
We attended but you think we did not. Name issue. I am Nigel and attended with 6 people. It was superb.
I love Italian food and here the Food was delicious! Worth the drive from Wailea.
Excellent. Thanks for making our Christmas Eve!
The food and service was good as always but the noise level was too high
As always very good. Only negative was that we had an early reservation (5:00) and two appetizers we ordered were not available as they had not prepared them yet. Could have waited thirty minutes but next time we will just make a later reservation. Service and food was excellent.
Super disappointed! Went for the happy hour drinks that used to come in a craft...new owners did away with it. Not worth the trip from Kihei anymore.
Food portions got smaller for sure but the dish I had was very good except I noticed they changed a couple of the noodles for the old recipes , very little help with waiters & waitresses we waited half an hour just to get our orders. And another half hour to get our FOOD.
Nice decor and ambiance. The food was good. Only problem is that they didn't have the pasta I wanted. They mixed up the orders in the kitchen and I never got my appetizer until my friends were done with theirs. And my husband got the wrong pasta. We did get a free dessert in compensation.
I’ve been going to this restaurant for years and it is so consistent with the food and service. Everything was delicious and fresh. So wonderfully kid friendly. Kids can “make” their own pizza by pressing out the dough and then customizing their pizza with the pizza chef (super friendly dude) then watch it bake. I found out it recently changed ownership, hope it stays the same.
We had a wonderful time, the food and service was excellent and it was definitely the best value we had on the island. We recommend it for anyone who loves their pastas freshly made and the sauces on them wonderfully balanced and superb .
We've been enjoying this restaurant for 30 years. The quality of the food and presentation is spot on. The idea of having to ask for the bread and oil & vinegar is not what we would expect of any reputable restaurant. It came as a shock to us. The waitress was not very attentive. We asked for a glass of ice and we would expect a spoon to transfer from the glass to another container. She did not provide with one although I have to say that when we previously asked a busser, he had the presence of mind to bring one with the glass. Perhaps your wait staff could be updated on simple service etiquette.
Check in at restaurant had a line and the hostess was very slow to respond to everyone in line. But food and dining service was great.
Service and food was fantastic!
Great salads and pizza.
un engaged hostess , slow / not particularly welcoming
server forgot my salad ... twice ... so I ended up leaving without
the red snapper & clams with linguini were both good
overall not a positive experience
We were concerned since Casanova's has changed ownership. Only the restaurant in Makawao, not the Bistro in Kahului. The original Italian chef is still there, the food is still top notch. The sauteed spinach in garlic olive oil with pine nuts and parm is a signature dish. The Vongole wa excellent, though floating in too much broth, better to order it dry with the broth on the side, otherwise it is a Vongole soup. Good flavors though. This night they had as a special a pork shank that was outstanding in flavor, tenderness and with very minimal fat. Highly recommended and with reservations. Hope they keep the same chef, we'll be back in March and will try at that time again.
On the menu I would like to have a roasted veggie side dish option.
The food from the bread with oil and vinaigrette to Caesars salad with their Croutons to fungus pasta to seared ahi to ribeye where all made to perfection ... an outstanding meal ... attentive service and fun Italian setting ... still great after all these years ...
Always great food and service
Food came little slow for the entrees. We were eating our appetizer calamari and there was 3 pieces remaining and the waitress took the plate away with out asking us if we still wanted the remaining pieces as we thought she might be putting this into a smaller plate and bring this back and she proceeded to put down the
Bread and olive oil and balsamic vinegar. To no avail, calamari was gone and never put back so we scratch our heads why she took it away without even asking . Otherwise it was good as we came to this restaurant previous years in the past .
Food is wonderful, great wine, wonderful service, bonus is affordable! Closest to being in Italy!!!! Mahalo!
Our favorite restaurant and favorite staff. Food exquisite every time we go which is often. We love it!
I raved to our friends about how wonderful this place was and I ended the night apologizing for taking them there. Our server was very indifferent and almost acted like she didn’t want to be here-I wished she wasn’t too! The food was plated very nice but the veal two of us ordered had to be cut with a knife. Instead of telling us the specials, our server listed all the items not available- just as we were ready to order. There was no draft beer and what they did have in bottles wasn’t chilled, which meant an extra wait for drinks. All-in-all, a disappointment.
Best raviolis and lasagna on maui
Worth the ride from both East and West Maui. Makawao should be visited if you want to see country Hawaii
Pasta was over done. Flavor was great, but the over done pasta changes the texture and that wasn’t great. Service was good.
Enjoyed the menu selection. Very noisy but overall nice.
Upon arriving at Casanova Restaurant we were taken back by the appearance of the place. We had a 5pm reservation and the door opened at 5 pm. As we looked through the windows into the eating area, we seriously contemplated leaving. But, being a bit adventurous, we stayed and went into the restaurant. It is in dire need of some TLC.
We were seated at the back of the dining room along a lovely row of windows with tropical plants, fountain and lights - very pretty.
Our waitress in training, Ruth, was amazing. She was very attentive and accommodating.
The absolute best part of our experience was the food! It was truly amazing. The portions were perfect. The taste and presentation was superb. We had Caesar salad, scallops and the Black Linguine Pescatore.
Good food. Fun toen
Food was not timed well, took a really long time for entrees, husband got his pasta dish, when mine came out it was all clumped together and dried out on top like it had been sitting under the warmer for a while...
usually don’t have a problem here, has been consistent in the past. Heard they just got new owners? Not sure why this time was sub par.
Had a reservation through open table at 730. Walked in 5 mins before and waited in the waiting area (cushioned chairs). There were 3 other groups who came later than us who were seated first. We told them we had a reservation and they told is they couldn’t find it. My husband told the host when he came to check on us that we haven’t been helped and their service was disappointing. We were ignored for 15 minutes and we had no idea what was going on. Someone checking on us would have been better than getting no service at all. Service needs a lot of work.
Had another great dinner at Casanova. Fresh warm focaccia bread to start of course! We had the dinner for two and split a panzanella salad for appetizer, pescatore pasta course which was perfect as usual, and the fish special main dish which was perfectly cooked opakapaka with a large amount of delicious pistachio crust. We love the affogato so had that for desert and had to take the tiramisu that comes with the dinner for two home for later we were so full.
Thank you Casanova!
We don’t have many choices of restaurants in our area: therefore, I would recommend them. I have eaten at this restaurant multiple occasions, but unfortunately this past visit was unsatisfactory. The food and most important the service was of the poorest quality.
Service,food always consistent
Wine list is great
Casanova is a favorite for us
Excellent food and beverages! Good service and ambiance! The temperature in the restaurant was very cool and comfortable!
The food was inconsistent and much better a few nights before. Disappointing to order the same thing and not have it be nearly as good. Also it is so loud you can’t even have a pleasant conversation.
Great Food Great Restaurant Great Location
