Delicious food. I had the lamb shank in a great sauce. The rice was excellent.
The food was good but not super awesome. The ambiance is really quiet and good with light instrumental playing in the background.
We've been here twice before and recommended it to friends recently only to hear feedback about the food that wasn't good, so we wanted to try it again with friends.
On the latest visit, the service was slow, but they are very nice. What we noticed about most of the food is that it was rather bland compared to our visits less than a year ago. They seem to be using the same gravy sauce base in many of the dishes which should not happen and most of the vegetable entrees were undercooked. There may have been a change in management or the head cook, but the taste of the food is no longer authentic to the region as it had been. The staple papadams and condiments on arrival are good. The naans were tasty and cooked well, but the appetizers and entrees left us underwhelmed. Disappointing! We hope the food quality improves.
One way, but not the only way, to judge a good Indian restaurant is to count the actual Indians dining there. We didn't see many this weekend, but it only added to confirm our thoughts.
Best in LA, hands down!!! Clean, excellent ingredients and uniquely gourmet!
Excellent Indian food -- every single thing was first-rate and very tasty. Service was perfect. The tables are close together, but we didn't find it very noisy, it was easy to have a conversation. Highly recommended.
If you love Indian food it really doesn't get better than here. Their Shrimp Masala? OH YESSS!!
Love Cardamon for a great casual dinner. Low noise for great conversation, fabulous food and great service.
Nice nieighborhood place. Lovely service. Tandoori is terrific-- no dyes!
It was great food as expected!
Anamazing Indian restaurant!!!
Really pleased with the service and the quality of food. Our party size was reduced significantly due to last minute cancellations, but they were still pleasant and accommodating, which I appreciated. The food was delicious - and like a good Indian restaurant, they provided free papar and chutney at the table. Will definitely be going back.
They came to our late evening rescue once more, and we enjoyed wonderful, generous service as always. This time we tried the Shrimp Masala -- creamy and elegant, and we didn't want it to finish!! Again, it had a bit of a twist to it that I couldn't identify.... just delicious. That was my second visit; and their second home run for me. I shall be back :-)
Service at this restaurant was spotty. We had a repeat of several servers come to the table for the same request. We had at least 2 come to take our order. Since it was not busy, this really seemed odd. Food was ok but not great.
I love this place. Amazing food and great value!
Took a little while to get our food even though only two other tables there. Waitress said it was because they had a lot of delivery and pick up orders to get out. Food was delicious though and would recommend.
Cardamom’s garlic naan is the best I’ve ever tasted. We enjoyed the chicken tikka and lamb curry very much. The appetizer scallops had a delicious sauce. We are not fans of the Indian desserts on most restaurant menus so we’re delighted to see a tirimisu on the menu. For us, it was a perfect finish to the dinner. We liked the by the glass wine choices as well. Great service!
I had been curious about Cardamom for a while and, finally, with very few other desirable choices nearby due to the late hour, I decided to check it out. Glad I did! As soon as I entered, the aroma from the kitchen had me convinced I'd made the right call. The host and wait staff couldn't have been more gracious and friendly. Although it was late and I was the last (and eventually the only) customer, they insisted that I relax, take my time, and enjoy -- which I did... very much. The flavors and presentation are a bit different from the typical Indian restaurant. I do love the more traditional, but their little twist (extra cardamom, maybe? hence the name?) definitely works for me and makes them stand out. Specifically, I found the Samosas, which they list as "Singara", more on the refined side -- the filling not as mealy, and the pastry more like that of spring rolls. The Butter Chicken (Murgh Makhani) was sliced instead of cubed, and had that mystery (to me) additional spicing in the sauce that was DELICIOUS. A very generously poured glass of Prisoner Merlot paired perfectly. Overall, my meal was not BETTER than the other fabulous Indian restaurants in LA, just different... in a way that I quite enjoyed.
I don't even like Indian food, but this has become my favorite unknown spot in LA. Excellent food, a very long and varied menu, beyond amazing customer service, and really great deals if you can find a coupon (check your Valpak). I can't recommend this place enough, it's become our regular go-to for a very nice meal in a romantic setting.
This was a wonderful find. Will definitely go back. Food and service was great!
Wonderful food and service. The food reminds us of our trip to India.
This place should be PACKED, and yet, we were only 1 of 4 tables occupied. The food is amazing - best Indian I’ve had in LA. Please go here so there’s no risk of it disappearing!
We LOVE this place. We always receive a warm welcome. The food is GREAT and prices are very fair. They do a GREAT JOB!!! Bravo
Excellent Indian food, with pleasant servers. My only complaint was that when my friend accidentally knocked over her glass of wine, it was not replaced or offered to be replaced
This was my first time visiting and I am definitely going back! Delicious food and friendly staff.
It was a pleasant surprise. Service was fast, food was delicious. Beautifully decorated restaurant. It was our first time and we will definitely make it a staple. Would suggest to everyone. Great extensive menu.
The food was good, but the service was probably one of the worst I've experienced. The waitress taking our order had a bad attitude and was not friendly. First of all, one of our plates were dirty so we asked her if we can get a new one. She simply just wiped it with a dry cloth and gave it back to us. We asked if the entrees came out as family style or individual portions. She said it was individual so we all chose our own dishes. When taking our order, she wouldn't let some of us order the same items saying that we already had someone else on the table ordering the same thing... When delivering our food, she handed hot items to us directly instead of placing on the table. I've worked in many restaurants and that is a safety issue.
When we were finished with our meal, one of the waiters dropped food on my friend's lap and did not say a thing until she made a comment. Only then did he apologize. We wouldn't have minded, since everyone makes mistakes, but at least acknowledge it!
Delicious food and staff was very friendly and professional- they really did their best to be sure our party was happy and content. Definitely would recommend to others and will go back again even though it is outside of my area- about a 45 minute drive! Was worth it!
We love Cardamom and have been dining here for years, but this Saturday we celebrated my mother’s birthday here and it was the perfect venue. The entire staff is friendly and provide just the right balance of attention and space. This is hands down the best Indian food in Los Angeles — every dish we’ve ever had is delicious. The beautiful restaurant and fabulous staff make it the perfect place for everyday dining as well as a special occasion.
The curry is great, which is hard to find on the west side. The service was friendly though I think they struggled to understand our English accents. It was hard to judge the spice level - we both asked for medium and it was a bit on the fiery side. They prepared all the food at once - told us the main was ready when we were half way through the appetizer- which made the whole thing feel a bit rushed. Lovely ambience though and nice curry, will go again.
It’s our favorite place to have Indian when we visiting from the East coast. Their chicken makhani is sooo yummy...once you start you can’t stop!
Great food and ambiance
We've been to Cardamom before. It is, in general excellent. There were only 2 problems: the chicken in dishes like tikka masala has been consistently dry. And this time our waiter lost track of us.
Most dishes were flavorful. Rice and naan were great. Would not recommend the Tandoori chicken.
We have been to this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. The food is excellent, however if you are looking for the standard slate of Indian dishes you may be a little disappointed, as the offerings on the menu are creative and draw from regional cuisines that are less often found in Indian restaurants in the US. One of the things that we enjoy most about the restaurant besides the food is the quiet ambiance, its a great place to go with a good friend for quiet conversation. We'd recommend the restaurant to anyone who enjoys South Asian cuisines.
Fantastic food and service! Best Indian restaurant in LA!!!
We ate there last night and had some of the best Indian food we've had in Los Angeles and we are hard to please. The food is tasty, fresh and authentic. The service was great and the waiters and staff could not have been more accommodating. If you like Indian food. This is a MUST try
Cardamon is a very pleasant, cut-above Indian restaurant., likely the best in the area. Menu items include small plates (the haryali murgh chicken is especially delicious), main courses (try the saag gosht lamb) featuring seafood, chicken, beef and lamb, cooked in tandoor and a variety of other methods, and from a several regions of India. The clientele included several Indian groups, which is always a good sign. Food preparation and presentation was excellent, service was quick and pleasant, and the ambience was pleasant and at reasonable decibel level. We will return often to try the wide variety of dishes.
While we have enjoyed going to Cardamon before, we noted that the food was exceptionally excellent this time around: the sag paneer, the chicken tikka masala, tandoori shrimp. I complimented the maitre d' on the way out and asked about changes in their service; I was told that they now have an Indian chef who has just come from London. It explained it all!! It was exactly like eating at one of my favorite Indian restaurants in London. Also, the acoustics make it easy for dinner conversations. Hats off to Cardamon!
Delicious but pricey.
As a Brit living in LA, this is the closest I've had to a British Indian dining experience (which is a good thing).
