Capital City Chop House
For decades, the Chop House has obsessed over one thing: quality. We start with the best steaks, seafood and chops we can find, cook them exactly to your liking, then inspect every plate twice before serving you. At every turn, we pay special attention to the details. It’s these little details that all melt together to make a truly extraordinary meal.
We believe premium ingredients are only as good as the chefs who prepare and cook them. We also believe a legendary menu falls flat without legendary service to serve it up. So whether it’s a business lunch, happy hour or date night, join us for a bona fide meal made the right way — all in an atmosphere where you can relax and be yourself.
Capital City Chop House sits right outside of Raleigh, making it easily accessible from most places in the Triangle. It’s within striking distance of Research Triangle Park, and it’s just a stone’s throw from RDU Airport.
Six or ten ounce center cut tenderloin
Great food and nice staff. Good portion size also.
Food, service and ambience was fantastic. I highly recommend!
Excellent service. The filet was great and so were the lamb chops
good value for a complete steak meal. A bit noisy but ok. Dress code is not required. Guy in front of us wore a tee shirt.
The wine selection was very good, the waitress was very friend, helpful and attentive. There was a TV on sports to keep up with the Scores on a big College Football Saturday. But the environment was so calm.
The lobster mac and cheese was good, but it was alot littlier portion than I had had before.
We had a great time. The evening was perfect. They were under staffed, but the wait was short and our waitress was awesome.
It was a risk revisiting this place and let’s just say it got worse. The spinach risotto we were served was absolutely a disgrace to anything resembling food. We even told our server about it and they didn’t even care. Given the staffing challenges due to COVID they get a pass on service but the bartender couldn’t even get our wine order right the second time. Date night was a disappointment and this place is all but dead to me. Don’t waste your time or money going here you will only be disappointed.
We got seated right away. Pleasant hostess. I noticed the lack of staff right away. Covid has really done a number on this place and they seem to be having trouble recovering. The light fixture above the booth where we sat had crusty laminate scales on it that flecked off onto the table and possibly into our food. The waiter did his best, but the service was slow. He was working all the tables in our section. We got the crab dip. It was good. The Caesar salad and baked potato were also good. The 22 ounce ribeye steak was extremely fatty and not worth it at all. Extremely disappointed. I didn’t even feel like arguing. The table next to us just complained about the wine being sub par. I didn’t think complaining would do any good. I’ll just chalk this up to a bad experience and will most likely not return.
Great steak. $25 corkage fee is outrageous. Waiter was good
This was a great dining experience! Loved the food, ambiance and service. They are back from the Covid doldrums that most restaurants experienced and back to their former excellence!
Great food and EXCELLENT service. It was my first time visiting Chop House and I’d definitely go back. Highly recommended.
We were not starving and ordered smaller steaks. Steaks were excellent and the perfect size
Delicious as always. We arrived early for our reservation, but they were able to seat us right away. Wonderful, quiet place for a great meal. They offer some separate rooms, perfect for small gatherings as well. Highly recommend!
As always, everything was great!
Waiter was extremely attentive, didn’t have my wine so offered a taste of closest available, and the food was outstanding. Ambience upscale and quiet.
Great food great service
The service was acceptable at best. Food was decent but not on par with other steakhouses in the area. Our experience was average.
Haven't been to Capitol City Chop House in several months and was disappointed with the menu changes, especially the calamari. Quality of the steaks has definitely declined. New yeast rolls tasted like those we get frozen from the grocery store. I hope they can get back to their pre-COVID quality soon.
Service excellent , Sea Bass good but the 46.00 N Y STRIP could have been bought at Food Lion for 10.00 Cooked ok but not a good quality strip like I remembered in the past meals there. Should have tried the Filet. I was disappointed as this used to be a special place but has really gone down hill perhaps has not recovered from COVID problems that has affected so many places
my 5.00 she crab soup was the highlight of my meal Sparky / Durham
Been going here for many years. Very disappointed in the current state of quality and service. Ordered the famous crab dip and had small pieces of shell in it. Ordered the Ribeye steak and frankly for a "Steak House" it was not up to par. I could have been eating at Golden Corral, Ryan's Steakhouse, or any other chain restaurant as this steak was not flavorful (as menu stated) and overall a tough piece of meat (not tender). The mashed potatoes for the side were obviously "instant" from a box. They were not very good, had lumps in them and were almost cold when they arrived with the meal. When KFC mashed potatoes are better, something is wrong. For $150.00 to take my wife to dinner, I was very disappointed in the overall experience in food. Our waiter was also the bartender so we had to wait extra time for him to come by to take our order, check on us, bring us our check, etc. The noise level was high as a waitress was dropping silverware to be cleaned/rolled right behind us (within 10 feet). We will not be going back and that is unfortunate.
Great bisque and appetizers. Steaks were meh mostly. Presentation was as expected from high dollar steakhouse. Quality of meat could have been better for the price.
I have been here before snd had a wonderful experience. This time the sides were cold. A large party of 8 left the table next to us it remained dirty the whole time we were there the man at the front took his mask off or had it under his nose. Very different from the first time a few weeks ago.
I was very disappointed in my experience.
Very good food and service. The sea bass was exceptional and the steaks were delicious.
Great food - great presentation, fabulous service. A must for a good meal.
The ribeye was a total low bar.
Great food, great server.
Service was not great. Server kept apologizing but it didn’t get better. I ordered the lobster which was chewy, Luke warm and the size of a large shrimp for $39. My significant other had the pork chop and he loved it. We both had lemon drop martinis and I have no complaints. Salads were delicious. Sides, loaded baked potato, jasmin rice and broccoli were all good.
This is an amazing place. Clearly one of the best restaurants in the world. I have to tell every body about it.
Could not have been a worse environment for 2 people eating. Placed in a small "library" where 8 people were shouting across a large round table. I had to turn off my hearing aids. Then of course I could not here wife across our table. Food was not as I had expected. Just middle of the road. Table "benches" are the worse I've ever had to get in or out. Walking out through the bar, I realized those tables were much better. And all this on our55th anniversary. Yes we stated that on the reservation! Never to return!
We had excellent service our waiter was great snd the food was amazing. I highly recommend them . It was our first visit but we will definitely go back soon.
Waiter came to take our drink orders, and my husband asked if they had a certain type of whiskey. The waiter said he would check, but instead went to a few tables to check on them, take orders, etc. It was a very long time before he came back, and he had forgotten to check on my husband's question about the whiskey. My husband became frustrated and just asked for iced tea. The waiter came back with my glass of wine and completely forgot my husband's iced tea! I ordered salmon, which I have had there several times and have enjoyed. This time it was very heavily salted and tasted horrible. Clearly Capital City Chop House is suffering from Covid Syndrome (insufficient numbers of staff and unqualified staff). The manager apologized, but it was a very frustrating evening.
The Manager spoke with us (as well as all tables). His enthusiasm for reopening the restaurant and continued great food and service was refreshing.
GM, Scott, is fantastic!!! The only complaint we had was the comfort of the benches and difficulty getting in and out of our table. Scott even sat in the bench beside my mother to see what we were talking about. We had a good laugh. We had a great server, Macey!! The food…omg…the food was delicious!!! All menu items came out prepared perfectly!!
Outstanding food and service
Had a business dinner with Helen and it was fantastic
Her attention to the desires of the group, offering suggestions made one of the nicest business dinners I have had in a long time.
The selection of reasonably priced high-end wines, appetizers, and entries was first class
Nit sure I would recommend for a date night but you will not find a better place for a business dinner
Our dining experience was awesome!!! Our server Erick was polite, caring and very personable. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. We will return without a doubt.
Our server was absolutely amazing.
Manager was wonderful
Was my first time there and with a first date.
Was a great experience. Will definitely be going back!
Fantastic service and food.
