Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

    Outstanding experience, every dish progressively one upped each other. Spice forward, un apologetically bold with each bite. When take that first bite and your eyes roll in the back of your head, you catch the bartender shooting you a non verbal smirk like “I know.. I know” Alway great to see when the staff are actual fans of the restaurant.

    We had heard so much about Canje and were thrilled when our awesome friends gave us a gift certificate. It was everything we had heard and more. The service was impeccable even before we arrived. They had messaged us earlier during the day of our reservation to confirm. Not a bot, a real person. I had a small request in terms of our seating at the bar and they totally delivered. Our seats were perfect! The welcome we received, attention given with a smile, and kindness from every team member we encountered were the norms for the evening.The vibe was super! The food, OMG, the food! We had Limelights and Mango Palmers to drink. To start we had Ceviche, Akara and Roti. For mains we ordered Pepper Fish and Haitian Griot. At the suggestion of a returning patron, we ordered the Tres Leches cake for dessert. Everything was 100%. The flavors amazing and perfectly balanced. The preparation and presentation, stunning! The fish was especially delicious as was he Roti. Canje is a treasure! We HIGHLY recommend this establishment.

    Good ambiance, service. Beverage selection for cocktails could be broader. Best of the dishes we tasted were plantain chips, fish, roti and ceviche while rest (bun, fritters, jerk chicken) were average. Sweet plantain dish was something they had run out of which was disappointing.

    Our 2nd time at Canje in 2 years and our previously excellent experience was met with an even better one. Starting with the perfect Isla Brava cocktail, into the starters, and the truly exquisite pepper fish main, the flavors were unique, well-balanced, and exemplary. This is to say nothing of the desserts which continue to be phenomenal. Add to that a warm and attentive crew of servers and staff, and both experiences have been completely delightful and memorable. Definitely one of my favorites, if not my favorite, (fine) dining experience in Austin.
