Traditional meets modern in this new age Caribbean cuisine restaurant brought you by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph of E&R Hospitality Group.

Named after the Canje pheasant, national bird of Guyana, Canje pulls inspiration not just from mainland Guyana, but from Jamaica to Puerto Rico, and all the islands in between. Our menu explores the cooking techniques, ingredients, and many expressions of vibrant food across the region.

Tucked away on the east side of Austin, this lively environment brings a unique cocktail program boasting both spirit forward and fruit driven cocktails and a small selection of natural wines alongside our inventive food menu.

Blake was great for our server and all the food was amazing per usual! Beef patties Wagyu skewers 1/2 jerk chicken Rice Ice cream with crispy rice flakes ALL items were 10/10. We had some folks who couldn’t handle spice LOL but still said everything was delicious!

We went here for my wife’s birthday and let me just tell you the food broke it’s foot off in our taste bud’s @$$! On god! This was a final boss level assault on my taste buds in the best way possible. I felt like the chef’s were french trained, black grandmama’s with 500 years of collective cooking experience cooking thanksgiving dinner for Anthony Bourdain to judge and the fate of the universe hinged on the result. AND they stuck the landing! We got there early and the bartender not only had drink knowledge rivaling that of PHD mixologist but also knew the food at a stone cold level. Our waiter had even more knowledge and his delivery was smoother than water in space. My god!!!! 10/10!!!!!!!

I have been to Canji a half-dozen times. Most of the time, it has met expectations, which is a high bar after neing written up in the New York Times a couple years ago. The night of July 26 was a great example. Fabulous experience with the Ceviche (the best I have ever had; sorry Fonda). Smoked Avocado was great, too, as was the Curry , roti and the Mango pudding. Drinks were tasty and not overpowering. Class act.

As usual, this place just hits on all cylinders. The jerk chicken is just out of this world delicious. Shockingly I would never brag about roti, but this roti is something to be wandered. ;) And the ceviche with peanuts – yes please !!

Isaac B and the team made it a great experience from the door to the door. They welcomed us with a nice drink and took into account alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, a nice card from the team and also delicious ice cream on the house at the end. Great experience, get ready for the spices from the jerk chicken

The food was good and the waitress was really nice. The jerk chicken needs a bit more flavor. The wait was long for the food, but it was okay. Most restaurants nowadays are using microwaves to cook and heat your expensive meal.Overall, we had a great time.

We went to Canje to celebrate my husbands birthday. When I made the reservation it asked if there was a special occasion, and to our surprise when we arrived they said happy birthday and there was nice card signed by all the staff on the table! They even brought out a complimentary appetizer that was killer-- spiced/grilled passion fruit and pineapple in a mango puree sauce! Delicious. The food just got better form there with the Wild Boar Pepper pot and Jerk Chicken. The portions were worth the price and everything was cooked to perfection. We loved it. Oh, we are gluten free and about 95% of the menu is gluten free!
